Does the subwoofer need to be positioned next to the soundbar or can I place it somewhere else in the room? Do the 2 connect or are they wireless?

The sub can go anywhere in the room (within limits of the sub) not sure actual distance but unless you are talking over 25 feet you should be fine. I put mine next to my bed so when I watch movies you get a nice vibration as well but where you put it is up to you. The Sub just needs a power connection as it is wireless. The sound bar I have setup with a HDMI connection, I use the eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel which my TV supports). This allows me to use my TV's remote but it still controls the sound bar at the same time as far as the volume goes. (also the bar itself is not wireless it needs power and the HDMI cable.) Hope this helps.
