A300 accepts 14TB hard drives 4/20/2019 11:03:05 AM

Pros: Can play virtually any file format.

Cons: None

Overall Review: For anyone wondering, I am using a 14TB Western Digital hard drive inside an A300 so I would like to think it would also work on an A400.

KD-Link A400 media player 1/21/2019 12:18:36 PM

Pros: Looks good, easy to install HHD, has some awesome features like the remote

Cons: Will never be upgradible , KD Link support is horrible if one can even connect with them, the units they make only last about 6 months to a year and.then they begain to flake out. First the units will start locking up. Afterwards the unit will not recognize your storage, than it just will not come up on your TV. Also the wireless can be hit and miss, I never could get it to stay connected wirelessly, good thing it comes with hardwired networking. Built cheap sold for expensively. I miss Agosy media players. Lasted for ever played just about codec.

Overall Review: I suggest doing research before buying media player. But this company quality control just isn't there. I myself am still trying to find a good quality built media player with HDD compatibility. If you know of a good quality media player with room for HDD please please let me know.

Great Media Player, Even Better Customer Service!! 7/5/2018 8:35:27 PM

Pros: Able to decode 99% of available media. Has everything you need for serious home theater. 4K 10bit, 3D, 7.1 Dolby, 8 core CPU, 4 core GPU, On Board SATA Drive capability, USB 3.0, 802.11AC...etc. What else could you possibly need?
Actual customer service! Even if all these features were not available, THE BEST feature is KDLinks Customer Service. Fast response time, knowledgeable, and conviction behind their products. By far the best reason to buy one.

Cons: Probably one of more expensive Media Players available, but definitely worth it.

Overall Review: Except for an audio track on a downloaded YouTube video, There hasn't been a file in my 24TBs of media that the A400 couldn't decode and play. Moot point since its Android OS includes YouTube, Netflix, etc.
Would highly recommend and definitely buy again.

KDLINKS A400 4K Android Quad Core 3D Smart H.265 HD TV Media Player with HDD Bay, WIFI, DOLBY 7.1, Gigabit LAN, 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage, 4 Core CPU, 8 Core GPU 7/3/2018 7:02:23 AM

Pros: The new KDLinks A400 Media Player is a definate step-up from their previous HD720 model. It has an Android OS and will play pretty much any file format that you can throw at it. The internal hard drive bay will accept up to an 8TB HD all though some users say they are using 10TB drives. I put a WD 8TB Purple drive in mine it works perfectly.

It has great Hi-end video and audio capability and GB ethernet and smokin' WiFi for network connections. I can stream video or transfer files across the network from my NAS without issue. This is a great upgrade for those users of the older KDLINKS HD720 Extreme and those users looking for a high end 4K media player. Also the KDLINK tech support is terrific.

Cons: None that I have found.

Overall Review: I would recommend this product to video lovers and anyone interested in a great media player.
Since it's an Android device you can put pretty much any App from the Google play store on it.
I suggest ES File Explorer / Manager Pro.

Great Product 6/2/2018 10:48:32 AM

Pros: Very easy to set up and plays movies from my computer with NO buffering. Well worth the money if you enjoy movies. It also has Netflix loaded on it.

Cons: It doesn't appear that you can download other applications.

Overall Review: I had to set my movies up thru the Kodi app, not a big deal though.

Best Media Player yet! 5/23/2018 8:57:34 PM

Pros: The A400 is the 4th media player I have owned and easily the best. It handles every sort of file you throw at it. The sound is even better! I hear more sound separation than ever before. It boots up fast. It allows me to send files wirelessly from my desktop computer to the A400.

Cons: No cons. Awesome media player!

KDLINKS A400 5/14/2018 6:09:49 PM

Pros: Easy to use, access your linux pc through samba. Uses a removable hard drive.

Cons: This is my first experience with Kodi. Slight learning curve with Kodi setup.

Overall Review: It’s like having a mini pc connected to the tv

Flawed and expensive 5/13/2018 9:34:25 AM

Pros: Plays lots of music and video formats, but not all (see cons).
Access to major streaming services.
Handles 3D and 4K Ultra HD video, 5.1, and 7.1.

Cons: Suffers the same shortcomings as my previous AIOS HD Media Player.
Does not play DVD-Audio or SACD formats at all. 6 channel WAV plays, but not in raw surround sound.
MediaCenter player is also limited (does not play .M3U playlists for example), although the resident KODI player is more robust.
The KODI sub-actions are self-filtering. This means that if I choose MUSIC I won't see any MKV or ISO files, even though these can be music too.
I consider myself a pretty decent geek, but the setup and options (many of them redundant) are like getting lost in a forest.
Finicky with network setup, permissions, et al.

Overall Review: I guess I'm the odd man out, but there's one in every bunch. I just don't love the A400.

For me, this all started with an old DLink media player in 2004. I used that thing every single day (mostly for music) until 2012, when it finally became utterly obsolete and couldn't play newer video formats or HD music. In 2012 I went with the AIOS HD Media Player, which I absolutely loved. It had some shortcomings but was very adaptable and simple to use. When I saw the A400 on sale with its rave reviews, I decided to go for it based on riding the 4K and 3D video wave, and also the promise of playing every format under the sun. (Streaming was a bonus, as I sometimes stream but already have Apple TV.) The old AIOS is no longer made and therefore no longer supported either.

Unfortunately, the A400 has most of the same shortcomings as my old AIOS (see cons above). It's much more complex, and therefore harder to use. It's also a heck of a lot more expensive. Eric at customer service was quite helpful, but it still took me over a week of nights to get the A400 reasonably set up on my network and functioning properly. This includes finding and logging in to my NAS where all the music and movies reside, which is the most basic requirement and really frustrated me. (My old AIOS found and logged into it in five minutes, whereas the A400 forced me to lower security on the NAS.)

Anyone reading this should take the MIAMI theory into account (Maybe I'm A Moron Idiot). I put in the time and I'm making it work. The other reviewers all love it. Even so, the box sat on my desk for almost a month before I decided not to return the A400 and just go back to the good old AIOS and get my money back. Hopefully when more of the world goes 4K I'll be happy I stuck with it.
