The Intel Core i7 550u is a dual core processor. The extra memory makes up for that though. I have not noticed any significant slowdowns on this laptop.

Question 3

Will this laptop be compatible with a Windows 10 upgrade?  If one buys this laptop in June or July 2015, will it come with a free upgrade to Windows 10, which is supposed to be released at the end of July 2015? If so, who will supply this free upgrade? If not, what about the Y70 version with a touchscreen, will it be compatible with Windows 10, and will that upgrade be available for free if I buy the Y70 in June or July 2015?

Microsoft provides the free upgrade.  A Windows Update installs a "Get Windows 10" icon in the system tray.  When you access the icon it offers some nice advertisements encouraging one to researve a free upgrade on July 29.  It tests the system for compatibility of hardware and software and offers its summation.

The z70-80 received a clean bill of compatibility and I have reserved for the upgrade.  On July 29 Windows Update will download the upgrade and once downloaded will offer to install it.  One can delay going ahead with the upgrade for one year or choose to install it anytime before then for free.

Once upgraded Windows 10 is licensed for the life of the hardware.  Methods to download media for clean installs will be provided once the upgrade is done the first time.

Lenovo is already announcing Windows 10 versions of some of its included software like Lenovo Companion, Lenovo Settings, etc.  This is a very new model laptop so I'm sure Lenovo and Microsoft will have the necessary Windows 10 drivers for it.

Okay, one person says it has a matte screen and another says its glossy.  Which is it?

I would say it is more glossy than Matt.  It's bright and sharp. Brightness can be adjusted by a key on keyboard, the sharpest screen I've ever had

Would It support Windows 7 Home Premium?

I suppose so, but it comes with Windows 8 and you would need to downgrade.

Since there is no touchscreen, there should be no hardware trouble, but you might want to make sure that Windows 7 drivers exist for the video, USB, etc.

Is there a 3.5 mm mic jack on this computer? I don't see one in the photos...

It only has an audio jack, but it also supports microphones, too so all you have to do is get a headphone with a microphone.

No, the keyboard is not backlit.

Had it for two weeks, seems good so far. Need to search and uninstall the crappy superfish they shipped loaded onto it, but other than that, great computer.

Office does not come installed.  It would need to be purchased separately.  That said, I am so happy I chose this system. Zero complaints.

Yes. The Processor is a 5th Generation Intel Core i5-5500U and it is 64-bit. You'll find there are very few CPU's that are not 64-bit these days.

The Windows 8.1 that is installed on this laptop is the 64-bit edition.
