Question 1

How is the keyboard on this? Is it nice and solid, or squishy? I can't stand squishy keyboards. Need to have a sturdy, solid, quality feeling keyboard. Thanks!

Keyboard is solid. I personally don't find it squishy at all, it reminds me of most laptop keyboards. The keys are even raised slightly more than usual laptop. The only downsides I have with the keyboard area is the touchpad can be really frustrating. It's not very sensitive and it's the type of touchpad that requires you to press on the pad itself to click something so I end up moving the mouse as I'm trying to click. Also, the edge around the laptop (where you place your wrists) has a little lip and it can get quite irritating when gaming or typing. I will probably be putting a small strip of electrical tape over that lip unfortunately. Other than these things, I love the laptop and it has performed very well for me on most programs I throw at it. Hope this helps!

Is there a dvd burner/reader?

One is not included in this particular model. It has a second graphics card in place of a dvd burner/reader. You would need to get either an external drive or one that fits in the "ultrabay" (where the second graphics card is installed).

Question 3

Does this notebook come with Microsoft office? and do you have to down grade to windows 7 to play games like LOL or minecraft or ESO?

This laptop comes with a one month Office 2013 trial installed.

This is my primary gaming machine, and I have yet to have any difficulties playing games with Windows 8. I have not played the three games you listed, but I have played Borderlands, Civ 5, FarCry 2, Empire Total War, Wings of Prey, and Skyrim without any difficulties.

Does this have an optical drive, or will I need to furnish my own?

It does not have an optical drive. The second graphics card actually  takes up the spot where one would go normally so you would have to use an external.

Will this laptop be able to run games from 2014 at decent settings? Also will it be able to run games like CS:GO or TF2 at a good framerate?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it will be able to run games at a high framerate.  The dual GeForce cards allow the laptop to run very well be it online gaming or watching movies.  Mine streams HD movies or plays them off a disk with no lag on the display, or skipped frames.  I also play a lot of CIV 5 and Skyrim, which the IdeaPad handles with minimal effort.  The only game I have found a problem with so far is EVE Online, and when you get in too big of a space battle, the framerate lags down to 20-30 FPS with high graphics settings on.  Overall, this is a great gaming laptop.

Is there a CD port, and if so, how do you open it?

No, there is no cd port due to this laptop having two GTX 755M graphics cards. However, one of the graphics cards can be removed and you may plug in a bluray/cd drive in the slot. Or you can get a usb cd drive if you dont want to remove the graphics card.

P.s. the i7 version of the ideapad has one graphics card and a bluray port I believe. Hope that helps!

So nobody is having any over-heating issues with this laptop while gaming at high settings?  Forums everywhere are saying it is an issue with this laptop. Not sure who to believe.

I run multiple applications through Steam, counterstrike, elder scrolls and league at max settings. I also stream on twitch using this laptop. While it has gotten hot over several hours once or twice I've never had any other overheating issues. I use a cooling pad on a glass surface desk.

I was skeptical buying this pc but I can't be any happier with my purchase to date.

Do you enjoy this computer for video games and if so does it work well enough to handle larger files such as WoW or Skyrim?

This Laptop will handily run Skyrim or WoW.  WoW isnt really a huge deal for it especially considering the ssd.  Your load times for WoW will be lightning fast.  Skyrim shouldn't be a problem.  I've been running games such as Warframe on max settings and its barely heating up.  It can definitely handle the load GPU wise.  My only caution for this machine is that if you are an avid gamer and tend to play a lot of video games the small HD size may begin to pose a problem down the load.  But I bought this intending to load only a half dozen or so large games onto it.  If you have any other questions please ask.

This is a good gaming laptop, but im kind of confused with the graphic cards, like will this be able to run Blade and Soul smoothly? Or Guild wars 2?

I just bought this laptop. I've been playing Bioshock Infinite on it with full settings. It's been pretty awesome. It should be great with Guild Wars 2.

Basically, I've heard it's great with most games that support SLI. Non-SLI games it's alright.

Question 10

Can I down grade the OS to Windows 7?

It's not offered (can't purchase), but if you're knowledgeable enough with the installation process I'm sure it would accept the OS, but this is just from my experience as a PC tech, I haven't actually done it. Windows 8.1 has better performance and if it's the interface (metro menu) you don't like I would consider keeping window 8 and installing a program called "Classic Shell".
