LG UltraGear Gaming Monitor

Ultra Sensation

Meet the LG UltraGear, a powerful gaming monitor with class-leading performance and stylish, award-winning design. It’s a large 34” ultra-wide 21:9 curved display, letting you see more of the battlefield. Images come to life on its Nano IPS panel, which covers 98% DCI-P3 color gamut. The combination of 120Hz refresh rate (overclock) and NVIDIA G-SYNC ensures super smooth gaming experience with minimum input lag and zero screen tearing. Together with three game modes, dynamic action sync, Sphere Lighting, and crosshair, it enables full gaming enjoyment.

FEATURES

Nano IPS

More accurate color and a broader contrast ratio combined to deliver truly high-end picture quality. Nano IPS controls color better, covering 98% of the DCI-P3 color space, the film industry standard.

QHD Resolution for Gaming

The 3440 X 1440 UltraWide QHD display delivers outstanding clarity to ensure precise gaming. The monitor's pixel area is about 1.8 times larger than an UltraWide Full HD 21:9 monitor, and about 2.4 times larger than a Full HD 16:9 monitor.

NVIDIA G-SYNC

This monitor supports NVIDIA G-SYNC, an advanced display technology that synchronizes refresh rates to the GPU inside GeForce GTX-powered PCs, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing stutter and input lag for a buttery smooth game play experience.

Sphere Lighting

Add new exc//images10.newegg.com/BizIntell/item/24/025/24-025-923ent to your gaming space with the striking LED effects of Sphere Lighting. Gamers can customize Sphere Lighting with an array of different colors and lighting modes to enhance the gaming experience.

Customized Game Modes

Set your game mode to optimize and customize your gaming conditions. 2 First-Person-Shooter modes and even a RTS pre-set mode, to choose from for your game.

Dynamic Action Sync

Dynamic Sync is a feature that minimizes input lag so the game play in RTS games is more responsive.

Crosshair

By placing the striking point in the center of the display, the Crosshair feature enhances accuracy in first-person shooter games.

Height, Tilt and Pivot Adjustable

This sleek, virtually borderless LG monitor is easy to put together with a simple press-and-click display-to-base attachment. The monitor provides comfortable viewing with versatile screen tilt, height and pivot adjustments.

Great monitor. For 3 months...

Pros: Owned this monitor for 3 months, loved the 21:9 aspect ratio paired with gsync and 120fps. Besides games not always having the best support for 21:9 easily the most enjoyable gaming experience I've had with a monitor

Cons: After 3 months of owning this monitor all of a sudden an entire row of pixels died overnight for seemingly no reason. In addition the day after that problem was noticed I discovered that an entire column of pixels is also having trouble and are seemingly stuck on a yellowish color, with some pixels near the intersection of the dead row being stuck blue and various other colors. Display was only powered on 4-5 hours at a time for the most part, sometimes longer and very infrequently overnight.

I really wish I could rate this monitor better but for a monitor that retails for $1,400 these problems are inexcusable. I'm really hoping LG can pull through and fix my monitor. Unfortunately when I contacted them about an RMA they responded that with displays over 34" they send a technician instead of a shipping label to mail it to them. So now I need to take a day off of work to deal with that, costing me even more money. Overall this has really soured my experience with this monitor, hopefully in the next week or so I can update this review in more positive light but considering the nature of dead pixels I have my doubts.

Never look back!

Pros: 21:9 wide view is great
immersive experience with xplane 11 flight simulator
productivity with excel, premiere and photoshop much improved
Gsync

Cons: not the best monitor in terms of color accuracy/calibration but for my amatuer/hobbiest video work I don't think it is a big deal

Overall Review: I mostly use my PC as a workstation but recently got into flying Xplane 11. The wraparound feel in the simulator is great. Getting productivity tasks done with multiple side by side windows is also impressive. Will never go back to 16:9 monitors ever.

Greatest gaming monitor ever!

Pros: Brilliant colour accuracy and brightness. Super fast response time and superb gaming experIence in PUBG and Battlefield V! I upgraded from an Alienware 34inch UltraWide which was great and pricey but this LG beats it square and fair! Newegg express shipping from USA to Australia took just 3 days, as I had to source it from the US because this monitor is not yet released in Australia. What a buy, it’s expensive but it’s money well spent, if you have money to burn and accept no compromise, this is it. No dead pixels and no backlight bleed. What a monitor!!!

Cons: Nothing I can think of. I was never happy with the colour accuracy of the Alienware 34” but this LG is all you can ask for.

The best ultrawide G-SYNC IPS monitor on the market..... for a price.

Pros: So I have been using dual SAMSUNG 2343BWX monitors for the past decade. At the time, that monitor was the best that money could buy and both of them are still great products that I still have and am using as secondary screens. However, I wanted to upgrade to IPS, G-SYNC, and 1440p 21:9 and this monitor is honestly nearly perfect (see cons).

First off, IPS glow is a non-issue with my unit. After 20 hours of gaming and another 30 hours of MATLAB programing, web browsing, and reading PDF's in a *dark room* I have not noticed the IPS glow. Keep in mind that during this time, I was somewhat actively trying to notice the glow but still I could not.

The only time IPS glow is noticeable is in a dark room, at a bad viewing angle, while displaying a black screen. This situation is very unrealistic and kinda dumb.

As for the "overclock" buyers should be aware that the Freesync version of this monitor is 144 Hz. This product uses the same panel. LG is limited by Nvidia's old displayport 1.2 G-SYNC FPGA module.

Therefor, overclocking this display to 120 Hz is still and underclock of the panel. You are only adding extra stress to the G-SYNC module so all overclocks should work out of the box with no issues.

Colors are great out of the box but my opinion is shaped from a decade of using the same TN panel.

Also as someone who hates RGB decorations this implementation of RGB lights is quite nice. Not overpowering, nice accent against my rooms wall, no software to install, and good brightness adjustment.

NOTE: Make sure you set the refresh rate in Nvidia control panel AND WINDOWS 10 CONTROL PANEL. I spend 15 minutes wondering why this screen was running at 60 Hz when I thought I set it to 120 in Nvidia settings.

Cons: Please note that this cons list is really nitpicking.

1. The default brightness is *insane*. I have no idea why LG though 70 brightness by default was a good idea. I dialed it back to 25 and even then it still might be too bright. The absolute first thing you should do is turn the brightness of this thing down.

2. The height adjust of the monitor stand is a little suborn. I'm glad that the stand is nice and sturdy bit I might lubricate the height adjusting joint in a few months.

3. Turning the monitor off also un-powers the USB devices attached to the pass-through ports in the back. Minor inconvenience you should be aware of.

3. Price. See explanation bellow.

Overall Review: This monitor (at launch and time of purchase) costs $1400. This is frankly a little too high when you look at LG's competitors. You are paying a premium to get a 144Hz rated IPS panel that effectively guarantees the overclock to 120 Hz. This panel the latest and greatest from AU Optronics (LG buys the LED panels from them) so the colors are great and the IPS glow is (in all realistic use scenarios) a non-factor. You can get much cheaper similar products from Acer, HP, Alienware/Dell, or ASUS but each of those products have a compromise or a higher overclocking and/or IPS-glow lottery risk.

I overpaid for my Samsung monitors 10 years ago and the quality of those monitors have served me well as primary displays and will continue to do so as secondary monitors.

I overpaid for this LG monitor too but this thing is nearly perfect and will hopefully serve me well just like the Samsung panels did.
