Pros: This reads blu-ray discs like it ought to, and rips and reads dvds and blu-rays well. For the typical user I don't see any issues with it and think it's great.
Cons: I got this to replace the LG GGC-H20L Blu-ray drive because that drive was very slow ripping audio cd's with Exact Audio Copy, my preferred software. Unfortunately, this one is worse with that program. I can't say it's a bad drive just because I'm picky about software, so this review is for those of you who use that program too. This drive caches audio at about 75 kb, where the threshold for good performance should be under about 64kb. That will slow down accurate readings since cache should be cleared while ripping. At least the GGC-H20L was under that threshold. It seems to do C2 error readings alright. But it is just very slow (with Exact Audio Copy ONLY so far) for some reason. It'll rip at okay speeds in other secure audio reading programs like dbPowerAmp.
Overall Review: Since I decided to rip most of my audio cd collection to FLAC and this isn't doing the speeds anywhere near where I'd like, I found and ordered another BenQ DW1640. I had one that broke, but that was a superb ripper; they are just out of production and hard to find now. This drive is pretty great for blu-rays, especially for the price. This isn't a negative review. I'm just picky about my audio ripping and I know others are too so thought I'd share my thoughts on it. You can test caching and secure reading features with an old version of Feurio, dbPowerAmp, and, to a lesser degree, Exact Audio Copy itself (although it isn't accurate or reliable about caching and C2 error information) if you're interested.
Pros: Quality first and foremost. Any burner like this that reads Blu Ray is going to burn slower (16X) but that is not an issue. I am big on high quality burns and this drive doesn't disappoint! LG has been really climbing the ladder in the Optical Drive category and this drive shows it!
Cons: None right now
Overall Review: I already have a Blu Ray burner, so I really wanted a drive that could be used to read Blu Ray and burn DVD / CD's. LG has always made quality materials...and this new generation drive is certainly a testament to that fact. I highly suggest if you want a BD reader and DVD/CD burner...look at this Bad Boy...worth the wait.
Pros: 10xBD & 4MB Cache make this a GREAT drive for bluray playback in a home theatre PC! It's also very quiet and the blue activity light is quite dim--perfect for during a movie as it won't bug you. By the time you put the disc in and go sit on the couch, it's already to go (using ArcSoft TMT5).
Cons: None
Overall Review: This drive is exactly as spec'd and functions exactly as I anticipated it would. I'm very please. NOTE IN THIS DESCRIPTION IT IS OEM. This US10LS20 is NOT RETAIL!!!. You WILL NOT GET SOFTWARE with this drive. OEM means original equip. mfgr-- you get the raw drive, a SATA cable, and a power cbl adapter (which even that surprises me for an OEM). I use ArcSoft TMT 5 and have ZERO trouble playing any of our blurays.
Pros: So far this drive has read everything I've thrown at it, including some DVD's that my other regular DVD drives have failed to read. This drive came with regular software (old version) and then someone tossed on top a CD of newer version software- also included TWO sata cables- not sure why two. However, since I already had PowerDVD 10 on my laptop, I didn't need the included software anyway.
Cons: I deducted a star for the firmware. This drive, as with most DVD drives, has a riplock feature which only allows for about 4.5x when ripping (for backup) original DVDs. It was tough to find, but I actually did find a firmware file for this drive on the internet, and was able to mediacode edit the firmware to remove the riplock. I went from ripping at 19.59MB/s with original firmware to 32.78MB/s after the edit! An additional con is that LG doesn't seem to provide firmware updates- instead- it appears they want you to just buy a new drive when technology changes; this explains why you can rarely ever find any drives sold here actually listed on their website.
Overall Review: While my laptop came with a Blu-ray/DVD combo I didn't want to risk wearing it out for DVD backups and such- so I bought this to use as an external USB drive. However, when I moved it to an external USB enclosure- my rip speed dropped. Oh well, it still does what I need it to do, so I'm still happy with it.
Pros: Vary nice and vary quiet. It works perfectly. The BD player program PowerDVD installed flawlessly and plays BD-disks in perfect clarity.
Cons: Only one small thing, The program takes 10-20sec to start playing a BD disk.
Overall Review: Over all very good. A+
Pros: Drive works great, looks great, installs fast. I had the drive out of the package, in my computer, and everything up and running again in 20 minutes. No problems playing Avatar either, just made sure to update the firmware and never had a problem.
Cons: The software which comes with this, PowerDVD8, is such a steaming pile of cow pie, I feel like a ranch hand anytime I boot it up to watch a movie. Seriously. Installed the 'PowerDVD suite' and no, wait. Got 6 different processes running in my system now, a ton of add-ins to my startup menu, and some kind of server app running in the background lagging my internet. Made my whole system chug and I do not have a low end system. Not high end either, but it's a quad core/4Gig Ram/Win7-64 and I was stuttering in Modern Warfare 2 Single-Player. Moment I turned all that extra crud off, problems went away.
Overall Review: Drive itself is great. Love the drive, worth the cash I paid, definately. The software is such junk, it belongs on a TV show being kitbashed into something wierd by manic scientists.
Pros: Works great. My shipment came with the software disc and the SATA cable, and even an sata power adapter. Played a Blu ray and it works fine.
Cons: Blu ray software suite is PowerDVD8, but cant complain since it is OEM and i didnt fully expect it. Software needs a patch that is available for free to work correctly.

Pros: Very easy installation on Windows 7 x64. I didn't need to use the included driver disc as Windows detected and installed drivers automatically. Disc loading speeds are excellent! I've heard horror stories with slower drives taking up to 2 minutes to start a movie - I'm consistently up and running a movie in 30 seconds or less.
Cons: Not the manufacturer's fault, but a 3rd party program is required to play Blu-Ray discs since Windows Media Player does not include a decoder. Just a heads up for potential buyers.
Overall Review: For ATI users who are specifically using this to play movies on your computer monitor or HDTV: The ATI Catalyst Control Center, by default, has "Dynamic Contrast" enabled under the 'Video' tab. This horrendous feature washes out the picture, gives blacks a gray appearance, and generally ruins the overall picture quality. Before I found and disabled "Dynamic Contrast", I was scratching my head over the terrible picture quality. Do your eyes a HUGE favor and disable "Dyanmic Contrast"!!!
