Pros: A child can set this modem up effortlessly. Easy ISP activation. Quick boot up and authentication times. Simple web-based user interface, although most of the content displayed is read-only. Data displayed in the logs is very thorough compared to other modems. Excellent heat dissipation. 24 downstream channels, 8 upstream channels. These attributes will allow for expanded connectivity, assuming your internet provider supports them. Support for multiple DOCSIS standard modulations. Gigabit LAN output with full duplexing.
Cons: Not wall mountable. Cannot be reset via the user interface. Intel Puma 6 Chipset is flawed and requires an immediate firmware update from Linksys (that’s pending release). Sporadic ping spikes (avg 225ms) that affect network connectivity under heavy load, however the modem is capable of correcting itself after any nonelectrical disruption.
Overall Review: I have been running this modem for a few months now, and aside from the ping spikes I’ve mentioned above, I have not had a single problem that’s lead to the lack of connectivity. I rarely need to power-cycle this modem to correct any unforeseen issues. For the average user, they will not see those latency spikes. For anyone that uses a torrenting application or similar, as a suggestion, limit the peer connectivity to under 300 nodes, connectivity and throughput will remain fine. If you’re running an older modem provided by your ISP, I highly suggest you upgrade to this modem and enjoy the added performance. I currently subscribe to Spectrum’s 100Mbit (downlink) by 5Mbit (uplink) plan, and my throughput is consistent with my subscription. Spectrum in my area (Walnut, CA) currently utilizes every downlink channel available using the DOCSIS 3.0 (Modulation: 256QAM) standard and four (4) of the eight (8) available uplink channels using the DOCSIS 2.0 (A-TDMA with Modulation: 64QAM) standard.
Pros: Excellent choice for those that have a high bandwidth service of 100 Mbps and up through their ISP! Will also work fine with slower bandwidth plans, and allow you to effortlessly transition to a higher speed plan later with no need to upgrade your modem again. Simple to setup or swap out with any current cable modem you may be using. Some ISP’s make the change over a breeze, while others may be slightly more difficult. In my case all I had to do was call my provider and supply the MAC address, within a few minutes I was up and running. While it is a bit tall at 8 inches, and there is about 3 inches of space above the main board inside, this will ensure that it has plenty of air flow. After running the modem for several hours streaming movies to multiple devices within my network it was only slightly warm to the touch. With 24 download bonded channels, and 8 upload bonded channels, you will always have the maximum speed your connection will offer. Also DOCSIS 3.0 ensures you have the most up to date modem. While this modem is certified by all major cable ISPs, those that use smaller cable ISP providers may want to check ahead of time that they support this particular model within their system. Status/Diagnostics menu can easily be accessed even when in front of your router with no special router configuration needed. Type 192.168.100.1 into any browser to gain access to the information page within the modem.
Cons: No cons for me, it worked as it should right out of the box!
Overall Review: For those that currently rent a cable modem from their provider if you do the math it really makes sense to purchase a cable modem as it will pay for itself in the long run. This will also pair up nicely with one of the many Linksys routers available here on Newegg. Always place your modems/routers in an area that is well ventilated to ensure they have maximum airflow and to prevent overheating! Overheating will cause a shorter lifespan in most electronics, and in some case’s even errors and connection issue's! General information: HW Version 1A, SW Version 1.0.00.010
Pros: - Easy install (unhooked old modem, hooked up new one, logged into ISP's setup wizard page) - Doesn't run hot - Handles Internet speeds nicely (speeds stay consistent for both uploads and downloads over a long period of time)
Cons: - No wall-mount - Can't access diagnostics web page after modem is provisioned - No telephony support (would have been nice considering the price)
Overall Review: - The modem's motherboard only takes up about half of the case, I'm not sure if there is a legitimate design reason for this, but it almost seems like a waste of space - Aside from being able to handle high internet speeds and many devices, this cable modem is pretty boring, but in a good way (it just works) - Cable modem was tested with Xfinity (Comcast)
Pros: Powered by an Intel Puma 6 chipset The base can be removed by taking out two screws Has a Web management GUI page to monitor connection information Can handle amazingly high download and upload speeds…if only cable providers were doing that now. Didn’t get very hot, just feels a little warm to the touch. Keep in mind that if you take off the base and place this unit on its side, there is a top and bottom. If you shine light through it, you can see a heatsink inside. Since this is passively cooled, make sure you place it on its side so that the heatsink is oriented the right way or it the natural convection of heat won’t work properly thereby making the heatsink useless. Setup was very fast and simple, plug in all of the cables and then either activate via a webpage or call. I had to call to activate as there was some issue with my account, but just gave them my MAC address and one reboot later I was ready to go. *****Internet Speed Test***** • Download = 117.90 Mbps • Upload = 11.96 Mbps • Ping = 12 ms *****Power Consumption***** • Idle: 7.7 Watts • Load: 8.3 Watts (Internet Speed Test)
Cons: Unnecessarily tall; as when you hold it up to the light you can see inside that the top half of the device is completely empty. If you remove the base stand, it leaves two standoffs on the modem that look bad. It would be better if the stand offs were connected to the base so that both came off when you remove it. No matter what I tried I could not access the management page after setting up the modem with my ISP. The modem is on a different subnet than my router and I can ping the modem’s IP but I can’t access its page. I tried power cycling, my router, the modem, factory resetting my router, putting a computer on the same subnet as the modem and still no management page.
Overall Review: Overall this is a great modem with a lot of potential once the cable providers finally up their speed. It was very simple to setup and has been working without any issues. The only problem I had was I couldn’t access the management page but this is not something that most users would care about it. *All tests were conducted three times to ensure accuracy and repeatability of results.
Pros: Sturdy, nice stand and not ugly, nice upload speed of 23mbps, new modem 234dload and 23 upload. Super friendly customer service , fast swap on new modem
Cons: Mine could never went over 7mbps download/ new no cons except had to get replacement
Overall Review: updated rating and with the customer service I received I wish I could add an egg. We have all had an item fail or be DOA so it all falls to customer service and they have a top rating from me. this modem does what it claims and more. other reviews are spot on for the item and after testing I can say it's the smoothest modem I have tested at these speeds. This get's a 5 egg because anyone can get a bad unit and I can do a full review when new one arrives and the customer support was second to none with real people and they determined quickly I had a bad unit and offered a replacement. Instead of having newegg replace it as they do w/o a hitch anytime I decided I would pay for a swap just to see how efficient they were and offered advanced replacement held on my credit card until old one is received. Based on new one and it's arrival time and so on I can do another review to increase it's eggs keep the same or downgrade. Based on how friendly the people were at Linksys I am betting it will be a 5 egg review. Customer service is as important as the part because I have seen and reviewed bad service before and if a company does not stand behind their products properly they lose in the end. Service after the sale is key to all electronics.
Pros: • Best 24x8 Cable Modem I've come across. Extremely stable, never had to reset once yet. • Linksys customer support really has returned to form recently. Fantastic support, always helpful and friendly, fast responses. I ran a couple common scenarios by them in which most Cable companies will throw their hands up and say it's your fault. Linksys handled all of them well and appropriately. • Ease of setup is dependent on your Cable provider, but I was able to activate this online with Time Warner. Otherwise you could also activate this on the phone or with TWC's phone app via chat. You must activate all cable modems before you can go online with them. • I like the design and it cools well. Only warm to the touch, never hot. • Had no issue hitting max stated speeds and staying only warm to the touch after 24/7 downloading and streaming.
Cons: • To some this may be large for a cable modem, but given the hardware inside it makes sense. At least you won't have to worry about it overheating. Compared to other modems of this class, though, this is actually the second smallest I've seen.
Overall Review: To be perfectly honest this modem doesn't do anything special compared to other modems of its class. It's plug and play and there's no options you can mess with, no settings you can change on your end - like all cable modems. So, get the modem that's appropriate for your current speeds, maybe one bump up in case you upgrade in near future. The only real area this modem shines is the great customer service that Linksys provides which is worlds better than Netgear or Arris, in my experience. So if you have issues that your provider can't fix you can safely bet that Linksys will help you or at the worst your RMA process will be relatively pain free as well. Just be sure to contact your cable provider first to make sure this modem will not only work with them but also your service plan.
Pros: - Fast and reliable. Can handle all my ISP can dish out (though being in Chicago with Comcast that isn't saying much) - Doesn't get hot from my testing - Starts up quickly compared to my old SB6121 - Gigabit ethernet port - NO RENTAL FEES - No embedded wifi
Cons: - No web interface for debugging
Overall Review: This is a fantastic upgrade from my old SB6121. 24 down/8 up channels mean that I can take advantage of a lot more channels and therefore have a more stable connection. This modem has been completely rock solid for me and I would purchase this item in a heartbeat if I were in the market for a new cable modem.
Pros: - DOCSIS 3.0 - So far has been extremely reliable - Zero latency issues (seemingly despite having a Puma 6 chipset)
Cons: - None.
Overall Review: Admittedly, my opinion may be a bit biased due to having upgraded to this from a relatively ancient Webstar DPC2100. It was fairly reliable for it's whole life, maybe needing to be rebooted once every three weeks. I assumed that this was due to updates on the ISP end, and it may very well have been, but towards the end it seemed to start happening more often. I was debating on what to do when suddenly Bright House became Charter, and my old 25 Mbps plan turned into a 100 Mbps plan for practically the same price. I contacted them to do the upgrade, and it basically wrecked the Webstar. I knew that it was too much speed (not to mention that the Webstar was a DOCSIS 2.0) but I kinda figured it would just cap out at whatever the highest bandwidth it could handle was until I could replace it, but the Webstar never came up again. I rented the Arris modem that Spectrum provided while I was figuring out what to do, when this was offered to me for review. The Arris was fairly nice and easy to setup, and I had no complaints (other than the monthly fee), so I was interested to see how this compared. I've been using it for about a month and a half now, and It's worked flawlessly the entire time. I'm pulling 120Mbps every single time I run a speed test, and I've never had to reboot it. Strangely, the Spectrum guy I worked with to set it up claimed that it was flagged as being "barely compatible", but I chose to ignore his warnings, and I'm glad I did. I wish all of my network equipment worked as effectively and easily as this does. As far as the latency issue is concerned, I haven't had any issues on any device in my house. I never see a loading screen, or lag, or jitter of any kind. I have a VOIP phone that has no issues either. I assume an update has been sent out at this point to resolve whatever issues the Puma 6 chipset may have had.
