Pros: I was able to successfully install in 3 different type of installs: 1) Upgrade from Vista (Dell 435MT) about a year old 2) New build system 3) Upgrade /custom install on a old (Athlon) Win XP system The last one was a 32bit install
Cons: None
Overall Review: For old systems, I had to download some drivers ahead of time. One crucial driver was for my wireless adapter without which I would not have been able to get any updates for the Athlon XP system. It was a Vista driver but it worked :)
Pros: 3 licences for under $130? Buy it now.
Cons: Wasn't available for me when I needed it!
Overall Review: I upgraded two comps to Win7 a while back and had to buy two separate licences... well over $200... now you can get three for under $130? Do it... do it now.
Pros: Very fast install, not a single problem for any of the 3 computers that were upgraded.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Used both 64 bit and 32 bit disc's did clean install with all of the computers.
Pros: This really brought life back to my wife's 5 year old HP laptop. She had gotten a virus and Vista really sucked so I bought this and did a fresh install.
Cons: None
Overall Review: As for those out there you can do a fresh install with all the Upgrade's version of Windows 7 with out having to have vista or xp installed before you do it.
Pros: +++ Not Vista + at $130 is approximately $43 per license + Has 64-bit install media and 32-bit install media in the box + install of the 64-bit version means all 4GB of my RAM is used (not just 3.3GB)
Cons: - looks and acts somewhat similar to Vista; MS should have issued this as a SP and not charged everyone extra for an OS upgrade
Overall Review: Look at the "Installing and reinstalling Windows 7" page at MS for necessary information especially when using the "Custom" installation option Use the Windows Easy Transfer software on the install DVD (migsetup.exe in the migwiz folder inside the support folder) to transfer files from the old system to the new via an external drive or DVDs. MS has a tutorial on this and there are sites that describe the process in detail.
Pros: Big fan of Windows 7, 3 licenses for $150! You can't beat that.
Cons: I don't like that the box during installation is automatically checked to register your windows 7 copy when online. I put it on a PC that has problems and accidentally got click happy now it's tied to that PC, not sure if it'll be a pain to release the license with Microsoft or not. I'd prefer that it do the install and remind you to activate within 30 days rather than have that option checked automatically.
Pros: Runs smooth, even on 3 very different machines. No problems upgrading XP, just have to take your time and re-setup a couple things. These were for my 2 brothers and 1 family machine, they all love 7. It is much more stable then XP, no more lockups like before for them.
Cons: None
Overall Review: I agree with everyone else, if you put your Tech Knowledge at High then you shouldn't be having to many problems. Also to the guy who dumped this for OSX with the promise of "no more maintenance, no more spyware, no more viruses" good luck with that.
