Pros: Still the industry standard, best OS out there. Pro version has better backup and encryption options.
Cons: OEM version still has limited ability to survive hardware upgrades before you have to call Microsoft and beg them to authenticate the installation. Also, Microsoft got rid of the "go up one folder" button in the windows explorer, which makes traversing the file system much much harder. They did this on purpose, to try to force people to use their stupid library scheme, which was evil. I manage my own data file storage scheme, have used the same system for over 20 years, and I like it. So I want my "up one level" button back.
Overall Review: Way better than windows 8. Stable and fast, with just about all the features I need.
Pros: Simply put, Windows 7 64 Bit pro is the best OS made to date. Windows 8 and 8.1 are just OK. I have W8 on my phone and it is just great, but this OS just is not friendly on a desktop or laptop PC, I have even checked it out on a friends tablet and found it to be too much of a chore to use.
Cons: NONE
Overall Review: Better than XP, muchmuchmuch better than W8.
Pros: I know Win 8 is out. The reviews on that product are scary. I just built a new $3K system and needed a new OS. I decided on Win 7 Pro 64bit. I'll wait until Win 8 releases their first Service Pack before considering upgrading. Win 7 works flawlessly and is an easy transition from XP. It has drivers for 95% of all my components and updating is a breeze. If you don't want to learn a whole new language in your OS, give this a try. I think you'll be glad you did.
Cons: None!
Overall Review: If you are concerned about boot times, buy an SSD. Now that is fast!
Pros: The features and overall improvements over Vista make for a great performing PC. Better price than full version.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: I considered another full version, but why not go O.E.M It's married to the motherboard, so if the board goes bad, you need the same board to continue to use this. Rarely do motherboards go bad, I am expecting years of use. If the board does go bad, I will need to replace it with the same, or not be able to use this. You'll have to decide if the extra $ for full version is worth it. In a blink Win 8 will be out and another in planning. I'm thinking 5yrs is the use life and it's time to upgrade. Yes, you can use it longer like XP still working, but I'm a builder and... Professional has a lot of benefits over home. Get Prof or higher to have the features and PC performance. I run 64bit and 32bit software works fine on it. 64bit is growing in support from software designers. 8 is almost out, tried the beta. I like 7, not comfortable with the tiles yet, it's for phones to me. One day I might adjust to 8, but I like 7, I got this.
Pros: I would take Win 7 over win 8 or 8.1 any day. Very stable, solid OS.
Cons: It limits or hides some of your admin apps that you had in XP.
Pros: For ounce MS got it right. Windows 7 is the top of the game.8 is ok but it too much of a shift to app like OS so I not real fond of it. The OSs before 7 had major flaws and copyright restrictions that really I just cant stand. Thank you MS for a easy to install, easy to update and you can try it without buying. So i bought two. Thank you for allowing people with hacked versions to get security updates and still use it. This is a major reason I bought two
Cons: I couldn't just buy a OEM key online. So i downloaded it, installed it., and waited for the package. Entered the key and bingo. I didn't have to reinstall if when the disk came
Overall Review: I wish it would have been on sale at the time I bought it
Pros: Windows 7 is the best OS from Microsoft to date. It finally competes well with other offerings.
Cons: It's not Ultimate.
Pros: Nothing really much to say other than it is Windows 7. I assume most people know the fine details about the OS. Prefer this all the way in comparison to Windows 8.
Cons: None
Overall Review: For first time builders that are looking to go over 16 GB of RAM, stick with Professional because Home Premium does not support more than 16 GB.
