How can you have hdmi with out onboard video?

The FM2+/FM2 chips have surprisingly capable video processing onboard. If you install an Athlon CPU (not APU like FM2+) you will need a graphics card. I can say that the newest Kaveri FM2+ chips with 2133 or 2400(OC), and slightly overclocked GPU do quite well. I built a system like that with this board with the plan to use it as a backup for my ROG monster laptop (which I use for dental 3D image capture using a CPU/GPU intense system). I was told by the 3D manufacturer that their system 'melted' AMD processors. I was curious, and can say flat out that I am proud of how well my little MSI-AMD-FM2+ build holds it's own. You can put the appropriate Graphic Card in later if you aren't impressed. My bottleneck was the math processing.

So its only compatible with the Athlon Series?

There are a few Athlon CPUs that work with this motherboard. Those happen to be the ones without integrated graphics. The rest are AMD APU processors that contain integrated graphics. All are fm2 or fm2+ based sockets.

Question 4

It doesn't make it clear what Processor type it is compatible with. So does it only work with AMD FM processors or does it work with other AMD processors as well? I want one that can use the latest AMD processor, the FX series, but most MSI motherboards only seem compatible with one type of AMD processor.

This is an excellent board. The Black A10 6800 OC'd with 2400 memory is quite fast and a bargain, especially coupled with the recommended AMD graphics card for the 6800. If you didn't want to get a graphics card, the A10 7850 with 2400 memory is also very fast, but it doesn't seem to be helped much with Hybrid Graphics (which means you could put it on an even smaller FM2+ board ... which was AMD's intent ... to get into smaller boxes with fewer components).

Does this motherboard support the A8-6600K or do I have to flash it?

Flash it? Not sure what you mean. There is a bios update but if it's fm2 socket which i think it is right? There shouldn't be any compatibility issues

Out of the box, is this board compatible with a AMD A10-7850K Kaveri? If not, what is the cheapest, most compatible processor that I can get so I can start the system up long enough to download the proper update to use the AMD A10-7850K Kaveri?

This board is designed around the exact form factor that the Kaveri chipset uses. It's an awesome MoBo; great onboard Audio, installs easily, plenty of room in the case for airflow as you have few or no cards (unless you're adding a video card).

This board and the AMD chip have been an awesome, super stable general purpose PC for my family.

I used the MSI board, the Kaveri chip, 8 gigs of ram (2x4gig sticks) and Windows 7. Great PC.

This board will fit in that case with room to spare. This Sently case is a sandard ATX size case, while the motherboard is a Micro-ATX board. The board should also match the case's red accents nicely.

'course you need to look at your video card requirements as well. Note that this board works ok without a video card, but I found it's displayport capabilities very lacking, so the point I gave up and just started using hdmi.

what is a good but cheap video card for this mother board? also i'm not asking for really cheap just cheap enough that is compatible and ok.

I got this board a few months back for my build.  I ordered everything BUT a video card, as I was on a budget and could always add it later... then to my surprise my processor I bought had an integrated gpu!  Have been running most games on high settings without one, and can hit 60 fps on skyrim ultra settings when overclocking.

Hi Zak, This motherboard supports ddr3 1600MHz memory along with ddr3 2400,2133,1866, and 1333. So this will leave you some head room for future upgrades down the road.
