Pros: - Will Obliterate Most Games - Runs Cool - Quiet - Easy-to-Use MSi Software
Cons: - Heavy (but not too bad) - There are some things that even this cannot handle - Core Clock Throttling
Overall Review: I used this card to replace a GTX 660. Very big difference. Time for some gripes. Under extreme loading, the card will approach around 75 C. At this point, it will actually start to throttle the clock speed, with the card fan at about 50%. While this keeps it quiet, I would like to be able to change this setting easily, but it is not possible. That being said, this occurrence has never happened to me while gaming, only during benchmarking have I had this happen. While the card is heavy, I am not worried about it snapping off in my case, and I am a very paranoid person. Now, as good as this card is, it cannot handle everything. For example, in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, I had to turn down particles and anti-aliasing to avoid stuttering in some scenes. This was at 5760x1080 though. In 1920x1080, I don't think a game out there could stop this card. Now time for some good things. The MSi software is easy to use; launch it, click a button, and voila a faster card. Or, you can click a different button and have a quieter card. How it is possible to get quieter than it already is, I am not sure. The MSi afterburner application makes monitoring the card easy. Now, I claim this card runs cool, and 75 C might seem a little high to be cool, but for a card this powerful, with the clock rates this thing holds, in this form factor, it is good. When looking for a new graphics card, I was trying to decide between this card and a R9 290X. I ended up with card after looking at some charts of power usage. At idle, with three monitors, this card uses significantly less power than its competitors. That is what sealed the deal for me. Time now for some quick numbers. These tests were performed in MSi's Overclock Mode and at the highest settings in 1080p possible. Unigine's Heaven 4.0: 63.6 FPS, Unigine's Valley 1.0: 70.4 FPS, BioShock Infinite Benchmark: 116.73 FPS. If you would like more numbers, just Google it, they are out there. I have noticed decent performance gains from further overclocking, however, they were at the expense of noise. This is a very good card, and while it has its faults, nothing is perfect. This may not be the right card for you, and at this price, it is a large decision to make. If you enjoy graphically intensive gaming, and are looking for a card that can handle most everything thrown at it, this may be the card for you. As for MSi's build quality, it is top-notch and I definitely recommend MSi.
