Worked out of the box. 8/10/2020 9:41:11 AM

Pros: 8 port switch with poe on 4 ports.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: I ran out of ports for my home network and i wanted to run my pihole off of poe. So this worked like a charm for future poe security cameras.

Great router - works as advertised! 6/17/2020 7:16:13 AM

Overall Review: This switch with 4xPoE ports makes it very versatile. Eliminates the need for separate power supplies for network cameras easing installation. Great product.

Robust small unmanaged PoE switch 5/30/2017 5:13:59 PM

Pros: Small form factor
Lightweight and wall-mountable
Gigabit speeds on all ports
4 PoE ports (also at gigabit speeds)
Power priority goes by port number
Runs flawlessly

Cons: Unmanaged
No trunking (due to being unmanaged)

Overall Review: Power brick can be a pro/neutral/con depending on your installation.

I've been using this to run some 2k resolution security cameras, which it does flawlessly. It would be better if it was managed (or at least a semi-managed "smart switch" so I could trunk the uplinks.

Pros: >Relatively inexpensive PoE switch
>Usual Netgear build quality

Cons: >External PSU
>No mounting template

Overall Review: I've knocked points off of Netgear hardware before for not having mounting templates and I'm doing it again. If you're going to make something wall mountable, include the templates - or at least make them available online. This should be pretty standard by this point, and not at all difficult or expensive to do. With how advanced modern CAD programs are, it is probably just a few clicks with the sheet metal tools.

This is one that is a negative for me, but may not be for other people: the external PSU. The PSU is one that is separated via a standard NEMA 5-15P to C13 power cord, so it isn't hogging extra places on your power strip or wall socket. Now, it can draw a maximum of 60W of power, at 1.25 amps, so I can kind of understand why the PSU has to be external - or at least why it is easier to be external. 60W isn't unmanageable in a space this small. I know because a couple other brands have internal power supplies in competing switches. No need to have power bricks that you either have to stash somewhere, somehow, or that take up multiple sockets on your power strip because of their form factors.

As for actual performance: top notch. Speed test hardly knows that it is there, seeing full gigabit through-puts with single digit pings between 5-9mS in most cases. The only slowdowns experienced were network-wide, affecting devices that were running simultaneous speed tests, but not through this switch.

I still prefer Netgear because of their superior build quality and use of higher-end components, as well as assured performance. I just wish they would pay a little more attention to the details that aren't immediately related to computer networking. I know I am being extra critical in this review, but I would like to think it is because I've come to expect the very best from Netgear.

Good switch for PoE devices 1/30/2017 5:12:29 PM

Pros: This is a good 8 port switch 802.3af PoE on ports 1-4 and fully gigabit, this will support most security Camera's, IP Phones and Access Points, keep in mind some AC wave 1 and most if not all AC Wave 2 require 802.3at PoE. You also get maximum throughput on all ports at the same time many lower end switches are not capable of that.
Like all Netgear switches, a nice solid metal case, and fanless, and easily wall mountable. I like the power jack on the back but some people prefer all the ports and the power jack on one side.
LED notifications for PoE power draw and if you are maxing out the devices PoE capability.
9k Jumbo frames support great for maxing out your throughput

Cons: Not 802.3at but you know this when looking at the product
No web managed interface for VLAN's or trunking.
Confusing warranty status, Newegg lists a 1 year warranty which Netgear's website lists a 3 year hardware warranty.

Overall Review: This is a good product if you need a little expansion for security camera's, IP Phones or compliant wireless access points, or if you just want a good switch with PoE capabilities.
If you want something with more power or more PoE ports in an 8 port switch look at Netgears GS510TP.

Another Solid, Pro-Grade Switch from Netgear 8/29/2016 7:19:33 AM

Pros: There are not a lot of other product lines in the tech field that scream "professional grade" quite as loud as Netgear's switch line, and this product is no exception. The design and build quality is simply exceptional, with a steel jacket defining the simple, minimal form of the device, and not a bit of excessive material or ink wasted on aesthetic flourishes. The rectilinear form is interrupted only by solid little rubber feet. The ports are spaced just right, close enough to keep things tidy but far enough to get patch cables with the larger rubberized ends in without any issue. The device itself has a power LED, and each port features not one but two diagnostic LED lights, conveying the link state of each port and also indicating PoE status, exceptionally handy for surveillance camera applications. A key explaining the diagnostic lights is printed plainly on the front of the device, as is the wattage output of each port. The power management is quite clever, prioritizing power to the ports in numerical order should the draw exceed the PoE output capability of the device. A dedicated LED indicates max PoE output.

Like other products in this line, provision for wall mounting is built right into the case in the form of a pair of keyhole slots. Mounting hardware is provided. Instructions are straightforward if minimal, written in clear, proper English, and printed in color. The design in fanless, producing some minor heat but no rattles or hums.

The devices offers no surprises whatsoever in operation. It just works.

Cons: There are no cons to this product that I have encountered.

Overall Review: This device sits beside my desk on a shelf full of network hardware and storage devices, silently and unobtrusively doing its job. I have complete confidence that will will outlast every other device on that shelf, and will probably outlast the replacement to every other device on that shelf, as well. Indeed, the switch it replaced is another Netgear model that is over 18 years old, still works as well as the day I bought it, and still shares the great design manifested here.

While not especially sexy or flashy, Netgear's switch lineup is a truly iconic design. It is a rare example of form following function in a tech device. Browsing the outstanding selection of consumer tech here on Newegg, every device seems to be clad in extraneous plastic, shaped like a frisbee or otherwise configured as a childlike knockoff of an Apple product, and lit up with strobing lights as a way to get us to believe it is the latest and greatest. Meanwhile, Netgear sticks with an understated design driven entirely by function that dates to the late 1990's, with not so much a drop of ink wasted on branding the thing. I heartily applaud Netgear for resisting the temptation to allow marketing considerations to drive their product design, and pedestrian as an ethernet switch is, I delight in owning a device so designed.

In sum, this is the Platonic ideal of a switch. It is robust, minimal, attractive, and absolutely functional. I recommend it without reservation.

Great 8-Port PoE Switch 8/28/2016 7:51:52 PM

Pros: This is a fine quality PoE switch. The build quality is excellent with a nice steel case. Power is handled with a power brick with a long cord so the unit runs very cool. The power brick also runs very cool so I'm assuming it's has well designed cool-running electronics. The four PoE ports work great and supplied power, in my case, 2 CCTV cameras.

Other features include the standard LEDs on each port. There is one for the non-powered ports and two for the PoE ports. The unit also comes with wall mounting hardware.

There's not a whole lot you can say about a switch but as far as this one, if you need an 8-port PoE switch, I would recommend this one.

Cons: No cons that could see except possibly that I prefer more ports.

Overall Review: Just a FYI... I used this unit connected to a 24 port switch and it worked fine. I have my main switch near the router and then I ran a line to the upstairs area and installed this switch there. From this point I ran the lines out to the two cameras. Worked perfectly.

SOHO 8 Port with 4 of them PoE enabled 8/15/2016 6:25:46 PM

Pros: 8-port gigabit ethernet switch (4 ports with PoE)
Quiet design / unmanaged / plug n play
Auto Negotiation for speed between device and switch
4 Power over Ethernet with a total power of budget of 53W
Great for small offices and Home Offices.
2 Year warranty

Cons: Ran into no issues

Overall Review: Able to power of PoE access point and HD Camera I have using the PoE ports as well as my Raspberry Pi configured to be powered by PoE. I was able to removed the PoE injectors, and clean up where I placed the devices. Over all the switch worked as expected, speed, balanced between all devices, No problems with the wireless devices on the PoE powered AP.
