Is this considered a wireless router?

Yes, it is a wireless router (also has wired outputs). It takes a cat 5 cable connection to a modem. Setup is pretty easy.

Which wireless extenders are compatible/recommended for this router?

Thanks for your answers. No, the range of this router is not any better then my old old lynksys router. Especially at 5GHz, at that band the signal fades just a few yards from the router. But event at 2.4GHz the signal is weak just in a next room, let alone the second floor. So, I would like to try an extender, but the choice of those that support 802.11ac is very limited, and I'm not sure if netgear has one.

Do you install this with a cd or no?

No CD was necessary. I got the configuration software online, from the Netgear site. It's very nice software. There is also a mobile app (iphone/ipad and Android, I believe).

How big of an area will this one cover?

Covers a considerable area, covers all of my 2600sqf house, but signal is very diminished if lots of walls. I also find myself having to power cycle it quite a lot more than other routers I have used but for range it does seem to have plenty of reach.

Hi,
Is this compatible to use as an access point?  I have a Netgear N600 WNDR3400 I want to use as the router for this and hardwire them together.  I just don't want the wifi running on the N600 as it is in a bad place for reception.  Thanks!

Yes, you can set up this router as an access point (AP) on the same local network as another router.

1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the Internet port of this router to a LAN port in the other router.
2. Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Wireless AP.
3. Select the Enable Access Point Mode check box.
4. Scroll down and select the check box for the IP address setting that you want to use (Get dynamically from existing router recommended).
5. Click the Apply button

Yes - I am able to connect the printer to the wireless network also.

How do you make the high side the dominant signal?   I have given separate names to each signal and the high signal name never appears on the wifi signal options page.

Must go into the netgear interface (username and password are on the back) and enable the 5g setting in the WiFi menu. Stock setting comes with the 5g already on so I am curious how if can to be off. Not a super techy person but I've had my far share of searching in the interface of the 6100. Hope it helps
