The NH-U9B SE2 continues the legacy of Noctua's classic NH-U9 series of compact premium coolers, which have received more than 100 awards and recommendations from the international press. The new SE2 version lends itself to use in quiet HTPC’s or smaller cases and adds support for LGA1156/1155 as well as LGA1366 via the latest SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system. Topped off with Noctua's award-winning NT-H1 thermal compound as well as two premium-grade NF-B9 fans, the NH-U9B SE2 offers a complete quality package for excellent quiet cooling performance.

Caution: Due to its custom backplate, the NH-U9B SE2 is not compatible with Intel’s Xeon 5500 platform. Please choose Noctua's NH-U9DX 1366 for use on Xeon 5500 systems.

Excellent cooler 3/18/2020 6:13:21 PM

Pros: -Very quiet
-Cools well
-Thermal paste included
-Easy to install

Cons: -Taking 1 egg off because for Intel CPUs it gives the option of installing the cooler vertically (air blows bottom to top) or horizontally (air blows right to left). In the AMD case, there is no choice, you must install it vertically so the air blows upwards, which isn't optimal for cooling unless you have a fan/vent in the top of the case.

EDIT 2020: It's a moot point now, but Noctua did send a proper AMD horizontal mounting bracket with proof of purchase. +1 egg

Terrible!!! 8/23/2017 7:38:03 PM

Pros: NONE!!

Cons: Did not screw in tight and stripped out the plate on my motherboard.

I suguest buying a EVO 212 went on like a dream!!

Overall Review: Been waiting for a refund for 2 weeks. They got the part 3 weeks ago!! In-which I had to pay to send it back to a non company which was $17 now they wanna keep $19 for a re-stocking fee!!! I'm seriously about 15 mins from contacting my attorrney. Been doing business with these people for 13 years!!! They use to be a good company! But now e bay is more reliable than these jokers!!

Silent, but deadly 5/24/2017 11:13:21 AM

Pros: This thing is well packaged. The instructions are clear and come separate for Intel and AMD applications. Took me very little time to put together and see how it behaved. The fans are really quiet in comparison to the stock cooler that came with my AMD. The price is quite competitive since it includes 2 fans unlike other Noctua models that require you to buy the secondary fan if you want it. It also comes with some rubber strips to dampen fan vibration, but I did not find it necessary.

Cons: Orientation of the heatsink is restricted to vertical installation on the AMD. The fan clips are tricky once you have the heatsink installed. They require some patience to get installed properly.

Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting an air-cooled solution and having a size height restriction. My case can only hold up to 150mm and this cooler is 125mm tall.

Louder than expected 2/11/2016 7:52:37 AM

Pros: High quality build.
Effective at keeping things cool.

Cons: This computer is in my bedroom and I run it sometimes when the house is quiet and everybody is asleep. I designed the computer to be quite, all the components. And this component is the loudest (excepting the optical drives on start-up). It has two fans, and together they're quite loud. I only run one fan, and I run it on the slowest setting (using the resistor cable that came with it to slow it down) and it's still the loudest thing in the computer.

Edit:
I added a second pair of RAM sticks to my computer and the clips that hold on the fans interfere with the RAM. I got a set with a smaller heat-spreader, but it still interfered. Luckily for me the clips that hold on the fan are just bent wire (like a bent paper clip). I could bend them out of the way, and it worked just fine. It's not really a con for me, because I'm handy, but for many folks needing to modify parts to install their RAM would be a con.

Overall Review: Other quite components:
XFX Double D Radeon HD 7770 (quiet, fast, low energy consumption, and cheap)
KINGWIN Absolute Platinum Series AP-550 550W (silent power supply - fan never runs)
Antec Sonata Series SOLO II Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (heavy and quiet. The fan that came with the case is quieter than any of the Noctua fans I've had). (Item#: N82E16811129177)

Effective Cooler 12/8/2015 7:31:16 AM

Pros: Cooler effectively cools Intel 4790k in Mini-ITX case. It's only going to cool as effectively as the cool air you're supplying it, but I can set this computer to render an image (100% processor usage for hours) and not see temperatures go above 45 degrees when measured with Asus AI Suite. Smaller than most coolers for a tower, still quite effective.

Cons: Can't think of any, it's a quality bit of kit that comes with everything you need.

Overall Review: I'd buy it again.

Pretty rad 6/3/2015 3:58:08 AM

Pros: Compact compared to 120 coolers, awesome noctua colors (a little sarcasm but you can at least say you have one of the best air cooling brands on the market). Keeps my 1150 i5 around 30 degrees at 3.8ghz when im servicing my pcs water cooling loop. This is usually in my home theater pc and is awesome for that due to its small size, quietness, and efficiency.

Cons: I really have none. Some people might dislike the colors, but i say they are scrubs and dont understand that noctuas are the choice for air cooling

Overall Review: If you want a cheap cooler that will do the job and is quiet then get this thing. If you are a nut for better cooling, i would also suggest looking into noctuas larger coolers and i promise you wont be disappointed. only reason i got the small one was space requirements and im not upset with what this thing can do.
