Overall Review: It's a rare useable option for hand held mouse

Pros: Works as expected. Quality seems good in general. I see this as more of an "use in special circumstances" mouse (presentations, browsing from the couch, etc)...not for routine all-the-time use. Fits quite well in small to medium hand. It is NOT for large hands and/or thick fingers. v Buttons MOSTLY easily accessible/usable. You do have to contort fingers for some of them. "Trigger" is responsive. Using it is straightforward. I would use a freeware program like "X-mouse Button Control" (majorgeeks com) to re-purpose the mouse buttons if needed.

Cons: TRACKBALL The TRACKBALL IS VERY LOOSE (rattles) and I couldn't adjust it for a tighter fit. It rolls loosely around in the collar and the mouse pointer wanders around the screen without even touching the trackball. Makes it very irritating to try to put pointer on display's virtual button and then click ANY of the mouse's physical buttons (including the "trigger") as the pointer wanders off the display's virtual button as you move your fingers to reach a physical button on the mouse. That is very frustrating. BATTERY LIFETIME TOO SHORT? Power switch feels VERY fragile, and you WILL have to use it a lot or you will be replacing battery very often. The MEASURED "ACTIVE" current is 4.5mA. "SLEEP MODE" is 0.2mA (200uA)...which is actually high for processor sleep modes these days. Thus, if you have a battery with 850mAh capacity, then if you accidentally leave it "sleeping" for just ~35 days you will likely be replacing the battery (this estimate involves some operating cut-off assumptions on my part). This also means if you use it a lot and it is "awake" at 4.5mA, I estimate the battery will last ABOUT 1 week at 6 hours per day usage. So it depends a lot on usage and battery Ah capacity. Remember...those are ESTIMATES. CONSTRUCTION The battery door is barely secure. You have to be very precise in placing it in the closed position or it will fall off with barely any jostling at all. It is also very thin so MAY tend to break with continued use.

Overall Review: Otherwise, the mouse seems very well built. No burrs or flashing; nice "feel" to it; reasonably strong shell; firm button clicks and good tactile feedback. The wheel operation is smooth. It is small for those with large hands. Some people may be unable to fit their finger in the trigger guard and will find it awkward to use. -------------------------------- Notes: If the on/off switch fragility does become an issue, I may modify this to use a magnetic reed switch inside the unit, and a neodymium magnet in a mount on my desktop such that when I place the mouse near the magnet it automatically shuts off 100%. Or some other interrupter. This will save both the battery and the power switch. I may be able to incorporate it into the battery compartment which could simplify things. The case is held together with screws so internal access for mods may be relatively easy. jGecko
