Question 1

are you required to buy stations to be able to listen to them?  I am referring to additional costs like Sirius radio in my car. Do I need any additional equipment to hook this up?  Do I need a more powerful router?  Sorry about all the questions as I know  nothing about these which happen to be on son's Christmas list.  Thank you.  Bev

There are no costs to listen to any Internet station, and there are about 10,000 of them, I think. I listen to only a select few. I moved away from Los Angeles, but I like a particular LA radio station. Since that LA radio station has a webcast (many do, not all, though) I can still listen to it. You do not need any special router. You only need to have a decent Internet connection, 250k bps (that's not much) or more, should be sufficient. Some Internet radios have wired connections, some have wireless connections (WiFi) some could possibly have both. But that is the only special consideration you need, to make sure you can conveniently connect.

I just put a watt meter on the unit. During standby, where the unit is not powered on, per se, (but there is a small amount of power needed to keep it to some level of ready) the watt meter said the unit was using about 1 watt. And since the lowest reading on my watt meter was 1 watt, it could possible be much less that that.

Once I turned power on, and the unit connected to some Internet station and was playing at an appreciable loud level, the watt meter display the usage at 4 watts.
