Pros: - True USB 3.1 gen 2 speeds. - Machined from a single block of aluminium. - The case is indented around the M.2 drive so that there is almost zero distance for heat to travel to reach the metal heatsink - very well thought out. - The included cable can sustain USB 3.1 gen 2 speeds. - Includes a nice torx/star driver as well as one of the better throw-away screwdrivers I've seen included with kits. - The case is machined around the circuit board - if you have seen competitors then you know a lot of them slide the whole circuit board out one end. This Kingwin design feels far more durable. - Works on my Macbook Pro.
Cons: - No USB-C to USB-C cable included (just USB-C to USB-A). - Bigger/Bulkier than the competition.
Overall Review: I have purchased a fleet of different M.2 SATA enclosures over the past 2 months. I returned every single one besides this Kingwin KU-3100U3C (and then I ordered a second Kingwin KU-3100U3C). The others weren't really USB 3.1 gen 2, they had problem sustaining a connection, or they dropped connections randomly. I'm very tempted to try the raid version (3200) but I'm a little put off by its added size.
