Works great. 1/22/2019 3:59:26 AM

Pros: - Easy to use and setup
- Lots of parameters to play with
- Detachable and foldable antennas
- Great range

Cons: - Wanted to flash it with DD-WRT or Open-WRT but seemed to be a bad idea from what I read on websites/forums.

Overall Review: Would recommend since it's a cheap repeater and works really great. Will see if it stands the test of time.

NOT REAL POE 11/17/2018 12:51:53 PM

Pros: Probably a fine AP...I couldn't actually use it

Cons: MISLEADING marketing on this WAP. I suppose professionals know the difference between "passive POE" and "actual POE", but i did not. If you have a router or switch that provides POE ports, this WAP *will not work* with it the way you expect. You cannot simply plug in a cable and power on the WAP. It comes with a little box called a "POE Injector", which must be plugged into power. You then connect the WAP to that box.

wouldn't link at gigabit 3/17/2017 8:35:46 AM

Pros: Install was OK. Attaching to the device was no problem. It seemed to work reliably (two days.

Cons: Hooked to a Netgear switch. All other gear links at gigabit, no problem. This device linked to wired network at 100mb. Very disappointed. 3 eggs might be generous?

Great access point! 8/6/2016 10:02:46 PM

Pros: I set this up as an access point to increase the range of my Verizon Quantum Gateway wireless router, and it works very well so far. Initial setup was easy using the quick setup feature and only took me around 20 minutes to get it working. I mounted it directly under (one floor below) my computer so I can't really comment on the range, but I do get a steady bandwidth of 300 Mbps, which I am happy with.

Cons: none

Overall Review: - So far I haven't experienced any of the issues that the other reviewers have with rebooting, etc. , but I've only been using the unit for about a month now, so I'm hoping it continues to work as well as it has.

Easy to setup on new Comcast Router 5/2/2016 6:05:42 PM

Pros: 300Mbps. Great connection.

Cons: A lot bigger than expected, but since its behind the TV it doesn't really matter. Also, had a lot of issues setting it up with my Asus router, but the Comcast router was perfect for the job.

Overall Review: Running it as an Access Point and I love it. I was going to buy two Apple Airport extremes, but I'm glad I didn't!

Cheap. Adequate when it works. 2/17/2016 8:52:08 AM

Pros: For the price, it has reasonable range and power. MSSID is a plus. When it is not mysteriously going offline, it works well.

Cons: I'm running this in AP mode. I have one device, my work laptop, that is apparently capable of knocking this entire AP offline. When it occurs, the AP shows no connected devices, yet the devices themselves still indicate that they are connected. Windows devices report limited access. The only solution is a reboot. Reading around, it appears that a subset of users are experiencing this type of problem without a fix in sight, and the very limited logging makes it difficult to troubleshoot. I have tried turning off non-essential functions one at a time in an effort to isolate this, but to no avail.

I take issue with a "300Mbps" AP being saddled with FastEthernet, although the practice seems pretty common. GigE cannot be that much more expensive at this point.

Overall Review: If you want to use this with Chromecast, you will need the latest firmware from Sept 2015. It will not work at all without it.

Fine for a while. 12/29/2015 1:08:10 PM

Pros: I liked the proposed features of this the MSSID the functionality of it i thought it was great it came with a PoE injector to help placement of it.

Cons: I bought it in august of this year it set up nicely but just last month it began to drop signals randomly and despite my best efforts to change settings and firmaware etc....it continued to behave erratically. I've just about had it with this AP so much so I just ordered a different brand but with much less available functions. So it sits practically useless unless it's having a good day and a smaller amount of devices are connected.

Overall Review: After a TON of searching I found that there are many many people out there with this same problem if only I would have read into more of the negative reviews here I would not have purchased it to begin with. I am planning on trying to upload a DD-WRT firmware next to see if it can be used for something other than a paper weight.

Manufacturer Response:
Hello Customer,

We are sorry to see that you are having some trouble with this device.

It is hard to determine by your post as to what the issue may be and upgrading the firmware would be a good idea.

You may find the firmware on our site at: http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/cat-12_TL-WA901ND.html

Since DD-WRT is not made by TP-Link, it is not something that we can fully support as it is considered a 3rd party software.

If you have any issues or would like to speak with a Technician then feel free to call our 24 hour hotline.

Best Regards!

Unreliable and broken 11/25/2014 9:23:32 AM

Pros: Easy setup, VLAN support, multiple SSID's, great range, POE. Most everything we were looking for.

Cons: Repeater/Range extender only handles 1 SSID, so don't buy two thinking you'll be able to extend all the SSIDs from the master.

Unreliable and unpredictable wireless behavior.

Constantly needing to be reset, with a high hardware failure rate.

Overall Review: We bought a number of these, hoping to provide both a secured and an unsecured inexpensive wireless network to our church building. Setup was easy, but we were a little annoyed by the fact that when in repeater mode, it would only do one SSID. Not a big deal, they're inexpensive, we can get more.

The first one failed after a short time with all manner of unpredictable wireless behavior. Sometimes it pretended it was WEP security, even though the configurator said otherwise, and it had to be restarted often. We re-flashed the ROM a couple times, and re-loaded our settings a couple times, each time with only temporary success.

Clearly the first one we installed had gone faulty, so since we bought a pile of them, we simply replaced that with a second one. That worked for a while, then started exhibiting other issues.

The third one failed as well after a short time.

Another annoying thing is the apparent incompatibility with certain other hardware. Apple devices seem to have speed issues when connected to these AP's, as well as some other various manufacturers. This was the case from the get-go with all three of these that we had installed. Not once did we see acceptable speeds on a certain set of hardware (Apple, primarily) when connected to these access points.

Normally I don't give 1 Egg on hardware failures, because there's always the chance I got a lemon. That's not the case here. We've had terrible luck with 4 of these devices, so I can say confidently, "Buyer Beware".

We'll be returning all of them, and going with another manufacturer.
