Phoenix is a Modular Liquid Cooling line of products by EKWB and the next generation of improved All-In-One water cooling solutions. Designed around Quick Disconnect Couplings it brings a modular approach to connecting and expanding the loop, giving you the freedom to decide which components you want to cool down. CPU cooling module and GPU cooling module can be connected to the radiator core module in any order, separately or together.

The EK-MLC Phoenix 360 Radiator Core Module is a pre-filled radiator-pump combo unit. It features high-fin density EK-CoolStream radiator, high-static pressure EK-Vardar EVO fan, and high-quality custom liquid cooling grade SPC water pump. It sets the foundation for efficient and silent modular PC cooling in use with EK-MLC Phoenix CPU and GPU cooling modules.

Quick Disconnect Coupling or QDC is a special connector that allows for a quick and tool-less expansion of the system without the need for draining of the unit. This allows you to add a pre-filled QDC-enabled GPU or CPU cooling module to an EK-MLC Radiator Core Module. Quick Disconnect is a medical grade product with Zero Drop design, and the expansion of the modular liquid cooling system can be very quick, easy and safe.

This Radiator Core Module provides extreme cooling performance and exceptional build quality. An integrated Fan splitter hub reduces cable clutter and keeps the unit aesthetically clean. The pump and fans plug into the unit itself with only one PWM cable going into CPU Fan socket and while a single SATA Molex cable powers the complete unit. All-around PWM control provides minimal noise profile and performance on demand with the utilization of top-tier EK-Vardar EVO high-static pressure fan and market-proven EK-SCP liquid cooling pump.

EK-Vardar EVO features a unique Start-Stop function which ensures the user a true 0db noise environment. When fan curve is set to the minimum threshold point below 25-30% PWM duty cycle (depending on motherboard model), the motor and the electronics will turn off and the fan will simply stop spinning. EK-Vardar EVO restarts operation automatically as fan control ramps up its operational duty cycle past threshold start-stop point. This feature is very useful for preventing radiator dust buildup in idling PCs and to prolong the lifecycle of the fan itself.

Awesome rad. (UPDATED) 2 fans have locked up in 7 months 2/5/2019 4:06:46 AM

Pros: -Keeps my i7-8700K and 1080ti below 40c.
-Love the no drip quick connects.
-Install is a breeze if you pay attention.

Cons: -The only con I can think of is the instructions. The GPU block uses instructions from their open loop blocks which is basically the same thing but there are a few points that it tells you to remove the hoses and mess with plugs - this is a pre-filled system so common sense should tell you not to do anything that would release fluid from the system.

Overall Review: I do want to say that this fit nicely in the front of a Phanteks P400 with CPU and GPU core modules. I did not pay attention when I installed the rad in the front of my case and noticed after every thing was installed that the fans were set to exhaust. So, if you plan to mount this in the front of any case you will have to flip the fans over. Last thing and it's very important is the QDC balloons, these do contain fluid and once disconnected there is nothing keeping the fluid in the balloons - best advice is to take whatever modules you buy to the sink when you disconnect the balloons. I reccommend disconnecting the balloons before you get these around your components. But, once the QDCs are connected to your other modules you wont have to worry about this because they are no drip connections. Almost forgot, you will get bubbling and gurgling for the first hour or so - it eventually goes away. Good luck!

UPDATE: I have now owned this Radiator for 7 months and 2 of the 3 Vardar fans have locked up. I have dropped my rating to 3 eggs - for the price there should not be any issues this early.

Making Loud Noises After Three Months 9/15/2018 5:56:09 AM

Pros: Bought this three months ago after doing some research for liquid cooling. Seems like EKWB is a good company from what I've read. Using this with a i7-8086K. Being the 8 series i7's run so hot, I figured this would be a great setup. It does keep it pretty cool, but fluctuates a little more than I'd like.

Cons: After three months now it's become very noisy. Doesn't matter if it's under a load or at 1% CPU usage while idle on the desktop. It becomes very quiet and then sounds like someone is drilling inside my PC. The "drilling" sound is become more and more often now. It's about a five second cycle of loud noises and then three seconds of quiet.

Overall Review: I think I may have a defective product at this point, even brand new the temperatures would never stay in a solid spot. Maybe this is my ignorance of how a 8 series i7 runs, but I don't think it's suppose to sound like someone is drilling in my PC every three to five seconds.

*edit* I've figured out it's one of the fans making all this noise now. For some reason the day after I posted this it stopped making as much noise, still a little noisy on the one fan. Not sure if they offer a free replacement of the fan. I'm going to check out their website. I'm using rubber grommets too with the mounting hardware, so I know it's not a vibration issue.

Great Cooling! 5/25/2018 11:43:17 AM

Pros: 1.) Easy Install.
2.) Great Cooling, have an 8700k at 4.7Ghz, I keep all fans on low and highest temps get while gaming is barely touching low 50's. Easly idles around 20's to 30's depending on room temp.
3.) Robust hardware.

Cons: 1.) Very Large, in terms of diameter/thickness. Was unable to mount on the top of case, fans or radiator would touch motherboard.
2.) Around or less than 5 Months of use, 1 fan has died. I do not leave my computer running 24/7, I shut down when not in use, and also like I said above, fans stay at lower setting.
3.) Not an easy process to change the fans around.

Overall Review: Despite loosing a fan in a short amount of time, and still currently operating on 2 of 3 fans, cooling is still excellent.

Effective yet pricy 3/26/2018 2:41:52 PM

Pros: As I purchased this radiator with a CPU block and compatible GPU block, I will cover these items in addition to the radiator itself:

- Excellent performance; I have the loop cooling a 6850K at 4.2 GHz supplied with 1.31 volts and a Titan Xp at 2.0 GHz
- In a 19C-21C environment, temperatures do not exceed 50C while gaming and completing other tasks; stress testing did push temps closer to 65C on the CPU and around 45C on the GPU
- Easy installation; the directions are easy to follow
- Little maintenance required
- The quick disconnect (QDC) system is easy to use and opens the door for future expandability; here’s hoping that EKWB doesn’t off the Phoenix line as fast as they did the Predator line (though Predators were plagued with multiple issues that don’t seem to be present with the Phoenix line)

Cons: - Some minor pump noise at idle; depending on your fan setup, you may not notice the noise at all, as it’s really only audible when I put my ear next to the pump; during normal usage scenarios it is inaudible and seemingly has no effect on performance; I’m not sure if what I’m hearing isn’t just water circulating through the system, anyway
- I had to replace one of the included Vardar fans due to excessive noise at idle and low speeds; getting a new fan was easy enough, but I will caution that it is somewhat difficult to change out the default fan setup
- Setting up the GPU block is laborious; it has many tiny screws, some of which are just minutely bigger or smaller than the others, so you’ll need an extensive screwdriver set; none of this is really a con against this specific kit, though
- A bit pricy for what it is

Overall Review: I am hoping that this product continues to receive support and attention from EKWB for some time. It seems like they’ve fixed previous issues present in their open-loop AIO solution line that prematurely terminated their previous product.

Considering the price, it may make more sense for budget-conscious consumers to jump into the Fluid Gaming line. The usage of copper parts and bigger radiators available is what swayed me towards Phoenix. It will be interesting to see how EKWB moves forward, considering how similarly intentioned Phoenix and Fluid Gaming are.

Also in consideration of its price, it may make more sense for some consumers to purchase a full custom loop for a little more financial investment. I personally wasn’t interested in going this route because the limited maintenance appealed to me. I am not that into gaming and PC hardware as I used to be.

All in all, I still recommend this product for those interested in reaching custom loop performance, by and large, with less maintenance.

excellent 1/20/2018 8:16:22 PM

Pros: Works better than I expected, big enough to cool cpu and 1080ti gaming x 11g in single loop. uses one sata power connection for pump res fans and all. so far, does not leak.

Cons: none yet

Overall Review: packaged well and shipped relatively quick considering I ordered it during snowmageddon 18.
