EK-M. 2 NVMe Heatsink is a passive heatsink for M. 2 NVMe Next Generation Form Factor SSDs. It is a much needed aesthetical and functional heatsink for many PC owners. It is not a secret that M. 2 NVMe SSDs can overheat very easily and be subdued to thermal throttling, thus losing performance. The heatsink brings 7-30°C improvement in SSDs temperatures, or even more with sufficient air flow.

The unique design of the heatsink ensures that it is easy to install, it is low profile, easily reusable and aesthetically not intrusive.

Simple clips ensure that the heatsink is very easy to install and to re-use if the SSDs is upgraded. Its simple design ensures a sleek, non-intrusive look that can be easily combined with any aesthetical requirement of the user. The compact design makes it highly compatible so that it does not interfere with other components.

The EK-M. 2 NVMe Heatsink is compatible with all single-sided type 2280 M. 2 NVMe SSDs (22mm wide, 80mm long). Because the heatsink consists of a front and backplate as well, the compatibility is limited to M.

2 (NGFF) connectors of 4.2 mm height.

Pros: - looks nice
- defiantly transfers heat

Cons: - spring clips are very tight, maybe too tight to the point of breaking something when installing.
- need fine tools to put clips on safely without damaging drive or heat sink finish.
- the EK button logo is placed right over where the NVMe controller is so there is a loss there to better cool the chip since the fins are not there to help remove the heat.

Overall Review: Bought this to replace my prior smooth motherboard heat sink which did not include fins.

Not sure if this fits properly on Samsung 970 EVO 500GB. Would not recommend to use this heat sink with that drive.

Even with the thicker pad on top of the drive not all chips were squarely in contact with the heat-sink. The drive has a dip in the middle with some offset chips as well that did not make proper contact with thermal pad. Possible the I/O chip on the drive is not the same height as the flash chips making the heat sink difficult to mount properly with the flash chips.

The Samsung 970 EVO 500GB also has some kind of obstruction on the back of the PCB. Possibly some kind of built-in head spreader or PCB reinforcement. Trying to install with the back PCB thermal pad is nearly impossible making the installation too thick for the clips to take hold.

The hard metal spring clips are very difficult to put on without damaging the drive or heat sink surface.

After installation I don't feel my temps improved over my motherboard NVMe heat sink however I have yet to put a fan on it to better test the heat dissipation. Unfortunately the NVMe is in a airflow dead-spot between the CPU and GPU that are both water cooled.

Recommendations: This product needs a bit thicker pad on the top and some kind of other means of mounting the heat sink to prevent damage while installing.

Beware of this, it killed my motherboard 5/18/2020 7:14:44 PM

Overall Review: I have a asrock fatality b450 motherboard, and installing this killed the motherboards ability to see RPM of all the fans, and killed the ground to the power button and killed the power LED. Who knows what else is not working, those are the only things I noticed. I'm hoping I can RMA this board or if EK can pay for my board

Pros: -Easy to install
-It works

Cons: -none

Overall Review: I bought this because my M.2 NVMe drive was hitting 95 degrees when I set my fans to silent. With this it has dropped about 15 degrees. Peak temps I have seen under a heavy workload is now right about 80, which is fine for flash memory.

Pros: Nothing.

Cons: Thermals are not what you would expect from this kind of heatsink. I happened to check My temps a few nights ago and the drive was hitting 50c. The sad thing was I was idle. xD
I think the strip heatsink that comes with the Samsung M.2 SSD drives is way better than this. Funny thing is I have a bunch of products from EK but this avoid it at all costs.

Overall Review: I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. In the end I got a much better heatsink. However, it did cost me a little more but well worth the price.

Overall Review: Used for a rear mounted M.2 on a ITX Z390 MB. The socket cannot fit the rear backplate. Best you look up what height sockets you have so you can see if it can clear any projections on the motherboard. There seems to be slot 3 heights and you need the tallest to work.

It looks great, and comes with everything you need to install. The clips are a bit hard to get on. I used some pliers to pull them open as I pushed it over the side. Its is tough to install, but if you focus it will work.

Taking off an egg because it should have an option to install without the back plate, and fix the clearance issue. The clips could easily be installed on the front, maybe with the logo on them instead of the heatsink.

I love their products, but this one just didn't work out for me.

If your NVMe drive doesn't have a heatsink, buy one of these.... 12/19/2019 4:21:41 PM

Pros: I recently bought a Samsung 970 Pro Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe drive. I was a little surprised when I got it home and there was no heatsink included in the box. I ran some benchmarks and I saw that my drive was sitting at 58C at desktop and after running the benchmark in the Samsung Magician I was hitting anywhere from 70-72C. That's one toasty drive. I installed one of the EK Heatsinks and I've now dropped by 10C both at idle and under load. Once I have a fan directly hitting my drive I'll be in much better shape.

Cons: None

Overall Review: You should for sure buy one. Just make sure there's some direct airflow passing over the heatsink.
