EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink is a passive heatsink for M.2 NVMe Next Generation Form Factor SSDs. It is a much needed aesthetical and functional heatsink for many PC owners. It is not a secret that M.2 NVMe SSDs can overheat very easily and be subdued to thermal throttling, thus losing performance. The heatsink brings 7-30?C improvement in SSDs temperatures, or even more with sufficient air flow. The unique design of the heatsink ensures that it is easy to install, it is low profile, easily reusable and aesthetically not intrusive. Simple clips ensure that the heatsink is very easy to install and to re-use if the SSDs is upgraded. The heatsink is ribbed, so it`s not just a flat aesthetical cover, it also acts as a very effective passive cooler. Its simple design ensures a sleek, non-intrusive look that can be easily combined with any aesthetical requirement of the user. The compact design makes it highly compatible so that it does not interfere with other components. EK Water Blocks are offering the EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink in black and nickel variants. The EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink is compatible with all single-sided type 2280 M.2 NVMe SSDs (22mm wide, 80mm long). Because the heatsink consists of a front and backplate as well, the compatibility is limited to M.2 (NGFF) connectors of 4.2mm height (as seen from examples). Model: 3830046991737.

If your NVMe drive doesn't have a heatsink, buy one of these.... 12/19/2019 4:21:41 PM

Pros: I recently bought a Samsung 970 Pro Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe drive. I was a little surprised when I got it home and there was no heatsink included in the box. I ran some benchmarks and I saw that my drive was sitting at 58C at desktop and after running the benchmark in the Samsung Magician I was hitting anywhere from 70-72C. That's one toasty drive. I installed one of the EK Heatsinks and I've now dropped by 10C both at idle and under load. Once I have a fan directly hitting my drive I'll be in much better shape.

Cons: None

Overall Review: You should for sure buy one. Just make sure there's some direct airflow passing over the heatsink.

Great solution for heat control. 10/4/2019 3:48:36 PM

Pros: 1. Cheap
2. Effective

Cons: 1. Installation can be a bit problematic due to the thickness of the thermal tape.

Overall Review: I own 2 of this and they work great. Recommend if your MoBo only provide you 1 heatsink and you're installing 2 MVe.

You might run into installation problem if you use both the thick and the thin termal paste. Since they provide enough of both just cut the thin in half and applied it on both sides of the MVE SSD.

It works... 9/28/2019 11:20:39 AM

Pros: -Dropped idle temp 5* - 10*.
-Dropped max 10*-16*
-Looks nice.
-Installs quickly on the WD where the raised chips are all 1 side.

Cons: -More difficult to install on the ADATA SX8200 Pro1TB. I had to cut and mix/match the thin/thick silicon pads on each side. I also had to bend and modify the retaining clips a bit. This took 2-3x times as long as the WD.
-There were a couple nicks on the fins and edges of one of the heat sinks, but you can't hardly see them once installed.
-Be careful if you use pliers to manipulate the clips, the fins on the heat sink get marred easily.

Overall Review: Dropped idle temp 5* and max temp 10* on ADATA SX8200 Pro1TB. Dropped idle temp. 10* and max temp 16* on WD WDS500G2X0C 500GB. The WD was approaching throttle at times @ 67* in all air setup in a CM MC500M case with a full 5 fans.

Given the varying reports on whether these are a good idea or not, I tested it with the label and partially removing the label on the WD. I tried it at first with not removing the label from the controller, but max temp was ~5* higher....still a good drop though. I ended up removing the WD label from over the controller only, leaving the SN# etc intact, as that is where it's mainly needed. This left it maxing at 51* vs 56-57* with the full label... This would probably be less of a factor with something like the Samsung where the label acts as a heat spreader.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!! 6/30/2019 6:37:27 PM

Pros: NONE

Cons: AS STATED IN MY OVERALL REVIEW COMMENTS

Overall Review: I bought two sets of these and wasted an hour of my time trying to install today. The adhesive cooling strips have a thin plastic protection film on both sides. I tried very carefully to remove the strips on the first set but the plastic strips pulled away chunks of the cooling "gum" material making them useless. I tried again with the strips from the 2nd set. After several tries and great frustration I separated enough of the material to try again. This time the finished "package" was too thick and took extreme pressure to get just one of the clips on. I took the clip back off and put the NVMe back into my case with the stock MSI cooling shield. The instructions are pictures only and not at all clear. I'll be looking for a different company to take care of my NVMe cooling needs.

GOOD PRODUCT BUT STILL NOT SURE ABOUT TEMPS. 5/9/2019 2:22:26 PM

Pros: Easy to install if you read the instructions carefully. Now, the temps seem about right since we all know that M.2 drives run hot. Unfortunately, I can't compare my currents temps with the old ones which was something I should've done. Right now am sitting idle at 42C. Haven't stress test yet so I guess will find out if indeed this heatsink made a difference. BTW, this is install on a 970 EVO Plus 250.

Either way I do recommend this heatsink but keep in mind that are many variables as to why the temps are different for each and everyone of us.

Cons: The egg I took off wasn't do to the product not doing what it's suppose it was just simply my doubts on items such as these.

Overall Review: If someone has a similar SSD which hasn't been alter with a aftermarket heatsink I will gladly appreciate a bit of info on your current temps. Also, the main concern for some of us is throttling. I did notice copying a 9 gig file without any speed issues but when copying a 23 gig file it was a different story. Of course, this could be a number of things. First the drive that was being copy to has rapid mode which is a Samsung technology for SATA 6 SSD's. So technically this is only a software oriented speed increase.

Am sure if it's natively copying from one M.2 to another the speed or throttling wouldn't be an issue.

Looks Great & Works 3/10/2019 6:50:15 AM

Pros: Looks great, dissipates a lot of heat.

Cons: Installation a bit tricky

Overall Review: I know NVMe chips can get hot when transferring a lot of data. That can cause the speed to throttle back. That also can't help the longevity. This helps cool tremendously. Don't tell anybody but I didn't use the 1mm thick top thermal pad. I put a thin layer of Ceramique thermal compound on the chips and sandwiched that in there. That's got to work better than that thick pad. I also read the horror stories about snapping it together. This also made that part easier, still seems to clip on there pretty tight. Just mind the small notches on the backplate for the clips regardless. I'll never install an NVMe without one of these again.

Riskey Mod Using Provided Clips -- EKWB, Include Some Silicone Bands! 2/8/2019 7:27:48 PM

Pros: Really does provide decent cooling for my 1TB 960 Evo. Drive temperatures were peaking at 80c, while the controller was pushing 100c! Didn't realize my Evo was even getting this hot, until I installed HWiNFO which provided the 2 separate temperatures. The only reason the drive doesn't run hotter is because my drive throttles at 70-80C. Max temps after a run of DiskMark @ 5x1GB are 45C for the memory, 66C for the controller. Abient temperature somewhere in the range of 19C.

Cons: DON'T USE THE PROVIDED CLIPS! They really are too tight, and you risk frying your drive. I used a pair of silicone bands from a generic NVME heatsink kit.

Overall Review: - Not much better cooling over a generic heatsink kit (you know the kind). Max temps for the memory were the same for the EKWB heatsink and the generic heatsink. Controller ran 5C cooler with the EKWB heatsink :o Unless you really love the look, save yourself some dough, and save yourself from the risk of breaking your drive with the EKWB clips.
- Also, unless you have some air moving, your drive will run hotter than mine. Still lower max temperatures, and a slower temperature rise, but don't expect the results to be as amazing.
