Awesome

Pros: Small package, great capability, great price. Boots in seconds. Battery life is tremendous. The disk access and processor speeds are fast and challenge my big engineering laptop. This is great for quick and easy things like internet, email, and business use such as on-the-road presentations, meetings, etc. Connecting to monitors or projectors is easy with microHDMI adapter. Worked great out of the box - no issues.

Cons: Availability is tough. Microsoftstore.com had it in stock, bought it from there. Seems that charging on USB cables other than the supplied one is current-limited. Use the stock cable for fast charging. The keyboard is handy but get yourself a wireless keyboard/mouse if you plan on working on it for any length of time.

Overall Review: Where else can you get a 10 inch tablet, Windows 8 and Office for under $400? My wife bought this for her business but she has to keep me away from it. Given the low price, I think I'll just go get myself one too as a light and fast complement to my more powerful laptop.

* Closing Thoughts *
After several years, I still think this laptop (or tablet?) was one of the best I've had. We purchased His and Hers T100s, both identical models. It offered full Windows+Office capability (albeit 32 bit) in a small, light and nimble frame that worked fantastic for school, coffee shops, etc. My wife runs her own consulting business and she loved that it offered everything listed above yet fit in her purse and the battery could last a full day of working on the go. Its lack of processor and RAM were counterbalanced by the SSD performance. I typically used Office, some Python and PyQT programming, ran a PostgreSQL server, did presentations, and Atmel Studio (which was usable but you could tell that was about all it had to give). However, after about two years, Windows 10 sat on it like an elephant and 2 GB was no longer sufficient to do much. Firefox was essentially unusable, leaving Chrome as the only usable browser.

To try to buy a bit more time with it, I then wiped off Windows 10 and put on Ubuntu 16. That in itself was a process due to the 32-bit bootloader mixing with 64-bit Ubuntu, and in the end most of it worked but some still does not (HDMI, camera and audio jack no longer working). The Google user group for T100 Ubuntu is your best resource here. Firefox is still basically unusable, but Chrome works pretty good and better than it did under Win10. It is still good for internet, office (Libreoffice), moderate coding and so on. It's coming about time to decommission it.

My final thoughts: The Asus T100 line is a fantastic value for the money. While the specs aren't fantastic, it was the very definition of on-the-go computing. Every other laptop I've had suffered from trying to stuff powerful components into a laptop paradigm, meaning you would have to wait a while to boot, load, and execute while watching your battery meter droop, all while barely fitting into a big backpack. The T100, despite being light on the specs, showed what it means to be nimble and mobile.

RMA 2 times

Pros: The few days that it has worded it was good.

Cons: It is now back to ASUS the second time in 2 months to fix the same problem. The touch screen stops working so that you can't turn on or off the table. It also take 2 days to fully charge. I tried to return it but it was just past the 30 return to NewEgg so I have to deal with ASUS. In the 2 months I have owned it, it has been been back at ASUS more than with me. The first RMA cost me $20 shipping the second they paid for it.

Overall Review: I would not buy this one.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Robert,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you if you are still experiencing unresponsive or erratic touchscreen performance. Please make sure WINDOWS Update or an antivirus software is running in the background. Since these application or utility eat lots of system resources, it will cause temporary unresponsiveness on the touchscreen. Please allow the application to finish its task or disable auto-update or autoscan in order to avoid this issue from re-occurring. Should you need further assistance in resolving the issue, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# xxxx on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

You get what you pay for

Pros: It was pretty cheap.

Cons: Takes forever to charge on stock charge cord.
Keyboard must be used for use with USB.
Keyboard attached makes it feel like im holding a laptop in weight, not a tablet.

Overall Review: I wanted a tablet with USB on the tablet, not a tablet that required me carting a keyboard around with it.

Mixed emotions

Pros: Initially liked. Good price

Cons: Touchpad was always iffy - if cursor left on a button it would activate without tapping. After 13 months (12 month warranty), would not power on, even when connected to charger. Too late to return or get warranty repair. Always liked ASUS motherboards and video cards...will not buy ASUS again.

Don't put Windows 10 on this!

Pros: Great tablet when it works correctly

Cons: Problems charging and updating itself . It likes to go to sleep right in the middle of an update and windows doesn't like that. The OS became corrupted because of this and will no longer boot.

Overall Review: Tried talking to ASUS since I bought this refurbished and the warranty had passed. ASUS wanted to charge me $181 to reloads the operating system. Had I not upgraded to windows 10 they would have taken care of it for me. Never buying from NewEgg again since they wouldn't take it back either. . Other online stores have offered me better customer service than this and I will only buy from them from now on.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Emiliano,

The WINDOWS 10 upgrade was installed on the T100TA laptop with no problem found. I apologize if the unit became unbootable when you tried installing WINDOWS 10 upgrade. If you have created your own backup copy or image of the OS using an external USB device, while the system was working properly, please use this device to restore the system to factory settings. Should you need further assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N151026754 on the subject line.

if you like troubleshooting, buy this!

Pros: It's light
Comes with a Keyboard
Priced ok.

Cons: Problems Charging
Problems Updating
Problems Crashing

Overall Review: I'm not sure if it's a Windows problem or a ASUS problem. They are both blaming each other. I have 60 of these for the school I work for. Unfortunately neither ASUS nor Microsoft can offer any solutions.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Ted,

It's good to know that the price is OK having a keyboard dock bundled with the unit. Please verify if the BIOS is at least version 227 or current and install all WINDOWS Updates to resolve the charging issue. Installing all recommended WINDOWS Update will improve system stability and performance , also. Should you need further technical assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N151027565 on the subject line.

A mixed bag

Pros: Seem to be a surprisingly capable Win 8.1 pad/mini laptop. Very good battery life. Good screen

Cons: Some strange solutions for the pad - lack of back camera. I guess it's a windows thing. Has an USB 3.0 port but on the keypad.

The major complain is the built quality. I had a number of Asus products over the years, but this one has by far the poorest design/built. Here a some examples:
When attached, to the keyboard part, the connector seems to be loose and wobbles notably;
Power button on top got stuck (!!!! like it's 90's !!!!) and I had to tap around it to get it out.

Overall Review: Although it's great for watching movies and doing some light editing, I don't think that this thing will last long... also, the panels of win 8 is a mixed blessing. Every other application I use will jump to the regular desktop version and becomes barely usable in the touch screen mode.

ASUS T100TA

Pros: I bought this notbook because I needed a light travel computer for mostly trip report and the occassional touch up of office products. It came with MS Office student version. It worked like a champ for just over a year and then one weekend after cahrging it up for my trip when I got to the hotel it did not startup at all. Only had a red light when I plugged it in. When I returned from the trip I attempted to use ASUS website to get if fixed but thier site did not work properly or was really confusing because nothing seemed to work. I ended up callig and only waitng a few minutes when I was greated by an ASUS person. We quicckly rechecked things I already checked and determined it was the logic board or the flashdrive had crashed. He told me the system was under warranty and explained what I had to do and I sent it that afternoon overnight to ASUS. A week later I got back my notebook/tablet working fine. I had to re-install the office and the few file on it were lost forever but that did not bother. I'm surprised I hear so man compaints with ASUS. I normally buy only their products for hardware, i.,e., MB, graphic cards, etc and have never had an issue with ASUS products. I have had no less than 5 of ther topline motherboards over the last ten years. This is the first time I had to ever contact ASUS over any product I have had from them and while the website needs cleaning I had no issues with tech support or the time it took to fix the computer. I normally don't place review but this one was warranted because of the great service I did revceive from ASUS. I will also be a buyer of ASUS products and hope I never experience some people put on this site about ASUS.

Cons: None

Overall Review: While the T100TA is a fairly inexpensive notebook/tablet I believe it serves and fulfills my needs.
