Is this product good for measuring food temps? Wouldn't you typically want to take an internal reading for things like meat?

I use a probe thermometer to measure internal food temperatures. I use the infrared thermometer to measure pan or griddle or oil, refrigerator/freezer, etc. temperature. It's also very handy for measuring various temps around the house, so it's actually the most used thermometer I have. The laser will eat up the battery pretty quick, though, so I keep it turned off. It's pretty easy to find the spot you're interested in measuring by just holding the trigger and scanning. After a year of use, it has a place on the counter for fast kitchen or general use and I'm very satisfied with it.

works any place indoor to outdoor ?

Had not thought about outdoor uses so I tried it. It does appear to work outdoors. I tested it on the outside wall and the concrete patio floor. And it certainly works indoors. Have used it to check the temperature of air coming from the cooling/heating vents, etc.
