Great idea but falls short 1/20/2011 7:10:51 AM

Pros: I have been wanting to buy a test bench case for a long time and this one looks promising. Buy I have a few problems with its design that should be addressed.

Cons: First off the motherboard has to be attached with screws. If this is a test bench, there should be a more temporary method to mount the motherboard. Using a cylindrical standoff with a spring loaded snap to secure the board makes much more sense. The board snaps on and then pulls off with little force but keeps it in place for testing.

Second, why should the hard drive be mounted internally? There should be a second front 5.25 bay to facilitate the mounting of a removable hard drive bay. There are removable drive bays that do not require the disk be mounted to a sled, just slid in and a locking cover secures it. That is an important part of testing, swapping in different hard drives.

Overall Review: I am still going to buy one in the near future but would like to see improvements first.

Also why does Newegg deem the word "screw-ed" (dash added to bypass filter) as improper?

Lian li needs different approach to their service 12/20/2010 6:45:44 PM

Pros: superior workmanship

Cons: none

Overall Review: lian li workman ship is superior. There service is lousy when you contact them they never respond. I have tried for over a month to purchase a replacement power/reset switch kit for a pc-Q07 that I purchased in august 2010 from newegg. These thoughts do not pertain to newegg, they are superior and would purchase anytime from them. Lian li products I am done purchasing, their service is just plain lousy.

Tech Bench 11/13/2010 6:21:37 PM

Pros: Nice size as you can place it and another on your desk one for buiding and one for testing.

Cons: Poor workmenship

Two of the case screws stripped when I was opening trying to install the power supply, dvd reader/writer and SSD drive.

I wanted to have two test benches so I could build and test at the same time.

Good for the money 9/17/2010 9:29:30 PM

Pros: Small foot print and easy to bring up a simple system.

This is first day experience and have used a Mini-ITX board to get my feet wet. This is a GREAT size to work on Mini-ITX boards. There is a jam with the PCI bracket and the audio jacks, not a deal breaker but an inconvenience.

I expect to take stock and build template motherboard trays for Nano-ITX and Pico-ITX sizes. Small is getting so much stronger.

I will use ATX after finding a source for the addon motherboard tray. The PC-Q06 doesn't give me confidence it will be stable enough for an ATX board loaded with 3-way or 4-way video/physx cards. It was not my goal to get the smallest testbench and torture it with big cards though.

Cons: A LOT of screws come with this. It would be nice to have a few extra of the finish screws in the kit, always easiest to lose.

A tight fit inside the chassis may restrict which PSU is installed and will provide a cabling challenge. The hard drive and optical drive are not easy access to swap around once the mb and cabling is set.

A lot of disassembly is required to setup, re-setup. This will be much easier as I determine the install order of parts and the cable-route difficulties.

Overall Review: I have more motherboards than chassis available and this is the easy way to bring up a system and still keep some order.

Outboard drives using e-sata, USB, and NAS will be something worth considering if more than just a quick setup is required.

This is a wonderful little box for the savvy and patient builder.

Awesome 9/13/2010 11:55:05 PM

Pros: Finally a bench test case!

Compact setup!

Optional motherboard trays for Micro-ATX and regular ATX MB.

Extra screws

Holds all of my regular test equipment.

Lightweight! I think it weighs less than a pound without the power supply. This may be a con when trying to put this thing together.

With the power supply installed, it seems very stable.

Power button is lit and changes color for different sleep modes.

Reset button doubles as a hard drive light that blinks when the hard drive is accessed.

Cons: Needs a Standard ATX power supply.

The PCI bracket blocks the speaker plugs on the motherboard.

It comes assembled, but you need to disassemble it to fit the parts into it.

front USB/Speaker ports are in the way and you may need to remove them especially if you have a larger power supply. I'm sure the Front USB/Speaker ports will be moved in future revisions. most likely to the left side as the PSU needs to be installed upside down to pull air from the bottom of the case, which means all the PSU wires are on the right side.

No optional clear cover for people who want to use this as a regular computer case!

Needs hot-swappable hard drives and more toolless design, as this is a test bench which gets taken down a lot and parts swapped out often.

Terrible instructions.

I wanted to give it 5-stars, because I love it so much. But I needed to be fair and give it a lower rating for all the quirky things wrong with the case.

Overall Review: I just removed the PCI support bracket for sound after everything was together as the video card held it in place.

I'm using this as a main PC case, but you better be careful as the motherboard and all parts are exposed, especially to little one's fingers.

when looking for a power supply, think modular so you can remove excess cables, especially large PSU. My Corsair TX850 unit was 6.5 inches long and wouldn't fit from all the wires not bending into place. But my Antec 850 Quattro (modular) that is 7 inches long worked after unplugging all the extra wires.

Don't worry if all the wires won't reach as you can run some through at the front left under the motherboard.

Install order isn't stated in the manual, but I did PSU first, then planned wire routing, then DVD, then hard drive.

Be careful of the power/reset buttons when routing wires or you may break it. I bent my pins, but they work fine.

It's a test bench 6/27/2010 10:41:39 PM

Pros: Maybe I'm slow, but I couldn't figure out how this was supposed to work. Well, it's a mini-ITX text bench. You put the mobo on the top of the box and anchor the expansion cards (2 possible) to the vertical frame at the rear. PSU and drives go inside the box.

I give it 5 eggs 'cause it looks cool but it could just as easily be none - you can just as easily test a mobo w/o it (but it wouldn't look so cool?).

Cons: This isn't a review - just supplying a bit of missing information.

Overall Review: The mfg. product link only goes to the LianLi site; the product page is here:
