decent box, but limited 9/26/2020 8:48:58 AM

Pros: decent size and alot of fans

Cons: unable to add internal pieces like cd-roms and disk drives

Overall Review: I would recommend this to individuals who want to have an external system. But if your looking at getting internal drives, this would not be the computer tower to get

Great case for the price 9/25/2020 10:40:55 AM

Pros: -Quiet fans.
-Nice clear panel.
-Plenty of USB ports (incl USB 3.0) on front.
-Easy to take side panels off.
-Most case cables are already organized and managed right out of the box.
-Comes with tons of extra screws for when you need to mount other parts.
-Power button feels very satisfying when pressed.

Cons: -Poor instructions included.
-Removing PSU shroud takes much more effort than it should.
-Couldn't get front panel off, so installing new front case fans was a pain.

Overall Review: Let's get this out of the way ASAP: yes, the included RGB fans work w/ MSI Mystic Light. Hold the LED button on the front panel for a few seconds for them to sync with your Mystic Light settings.

I got this case for the nice glass side panel, the abundance of USB slots on the front panel, the two external drive bays, and the price.

This is a beautiful case that is easy to work around... provided you have prior experience. The instructions that come with the case are so barebones and uninformative that it will give first-time builders a ton of pause, especially if they don't know what to do with the RGB fans and the included controller. It wouldn't have hurt to include more documentation on how the fans work or how to get them to work with the different kinds of RGB controls that seem standard with different motherboard manufacturers. Oh well.

The case does come with a box full of extra screws of different sizes. I still have a ton leftover after finishing the build, but it's nice to know that there are extras around in case anything gets lost.

The included RGB fans are pretty and quiet. I replaced them with Coolermaster Sickleflow V2 ARGB fans out of personal preference, but you should honestly be fine with the included fans. If you opt for new case fans, removing the case's default fan controller is pretty simple enough. I couldn't remove the front panel, so I put in my new fans by sticking the screwdriver through the front grating. Just an FYI if you wanted to do that. It didn't ruin the experience for me.

Removing the glass side panel is so easy and quick. I had to do a lot of part swapping during my first week of my latest build, so it helps that the panel's easy to work around. I also love how many cables are already properly routed and cable-managed from the very start, complete with their own velcro ties. It's all just a matter of getting your PSU cables working with the rest of them.

The PSU shroud takes more effort that I think it needs, but it's only a slight inconvenience when initially setting up PSU cables. I left it on in the final build, but removing it felt like a bigger pain than putting up with accessing PSU cables from only one side of the case.

Overall, I like this case a lot. Easy enough to work around. I don't overclock or watercool or need anything fancy, so apart from the lack of detailed instructions or documentation, this is a really nice straightforward case to get for the price.

V8 - Great Improvement! 9/22/2020 9:12:28 AM

Pros: Good Airflow
Plenty of Space
Plenty of additional USB's
Glass Side Panel

Cons: Fans Aren't very Customizable
A bit Bulky
No instruction manual

Overall Review: I feel like this case doesn't get a fair shake because of the previous Vanguard Versions being notorious for having bad airflow. But, if they did, then DIY PC learned their lesson, and this thing has pretty good airflow. I can feel the intake on the front, and there's an optional intake/exhaust on the top if you want to mount more fans. It even has dust filters on the top and front of the case, so if you decide to make the top of the case an intake, you have a dust filter there as well. My case remains pretty cool, even when I'm putting some stress on it. Haven't tested my PC to its maximum output, but I've had it run some pretty hefty applications, including some games on Ultra graphics. Overheating has not been an issue.

Unfortunately, though, the LED's on the fans on the inside are meant to be run by the case's controller, and I don't think they support being plugged into your motherboard's RGB headers. So, you're going to be stuck with the options of Blue, Red, Green Yellow, Purple, flashing rainbow, and rainbow fade. You can turn them off, but that's not very fun and makes the case look like a giant black slab of plastic. Thankfully, I like the red setting, and it matches with the RGB settings I pick for the rest of the PC, so it looks pretty good for me.

The case is pretty big, though. The ATX motherboard I bought looks tiny inside of this thing, but it does fit with little to no issue.

Though, if you're like me and you opt to not spend all of your money on SSD, the mounting for HDD is a bit lacking. There's even one slot for HDD that's got the box with the hardware stuck inside - I can't get it out easily, which would be a pain if I needed that one slot out of 3 for an additional hard drive. It's not an issue at present for me, but it is going to be a bit of an issue down the road, or if you want to fit multiple hard drives that you already have in there.

There's a fair amount of grommets for cable management, as well as some straps behind the metal panel that you attach the motherboard to for the same purpose. I'm sure if I had better cable management skills, mine would look a bit neater. However, it's not a total bird's nest of wires back there. I'd say the cable management options are fairly effective.

If you've got as many peripheral devices as I do, the 4 USB's on the front of the case are much appreciated as well; with as many USB's as my motherboard and case have combined, I can opt not to get an expansion card for USBs. That way, I can use the last expansion slot for something else, if I want.

I suppose if you want to go with liquid cooling (a prospect that I don't really want to explore due to how dangerous a leak could be) there is plenty of room in this case for that as well. Overall, I don't see many major design flaws with this case, other than maybe a lack of HDD support, if you have a bunch of hard drives. There's certainly room for them, but no racks to house them. So, if you need storage space that isn't SSD, you should invest in HDD's that have more space on them, rather than buying smaller HDD's as you need them.

Case 9/17/2020 2:49:41 PM

Pros: case is great, lots of room and great airflow. Upgradable to liquid cooling easily.

Cons: case come complete and well put together except the top, it's dented and no longer level, but still works. Looks like whoever put it together messed up and sent it anyway.

Overall Review: great for the price, just be more aware when that whoever puts it together may have some defects, but still works great with no issues other than the on defect on the top of the case.
