Pros: With USB along you're limited to the USB 2.0 transfer speed of about 24 MB/s. eSATA is fast enough that you're limited to the physical drive speed, about 62 MB/s. This gives a 2.6x performance gain. USB provides enough power for a 2.5" HDD, but eSATA along does not. So eSATA only cables require separate power adapters. The beauty of this device is that if you have the special combo port, you get the benefits of both, eSATA transfer speeds and self-powered via the USB port. p.s. MB/s is megabytes per second (not bits). Speeds reported were sequential read times measured on the same Western Digital 2.5" 320GB HDD with CrystalDiskMark v3.0.

Cons: There is no drive case, so without additional protection the drive just hangs out there. There are other cables just like this that come with a silicon slip for the drive which are handy.

Overall Review: First you must know that this is a unique cable for computers with a SHARED USB+eSATA combo port. That means that the same port supports both USB and eSATA. The cable uses the USB portion to provide power and the eSATA portion for data transferring. Your computer (like my Dell XPS Laptop) must have this special type of combo port.

Pros: Full SATA speed with an external connection. Doesnt require any extra power source as with a conventional eSATA cable. Doubled the speed of the USB 2.0 cable I used with the same drive.

Cons: Perhaps a little short for some people, but the length wasn't a problem for me.

Overall Review: BE SURE that you have a USB/eSATA combo port before buying this cable because that is what the cable is for.

Pros: Does what it states: ONE - I repeat ONE cable and I can attach to my laptop SSD and other 2.5" hard drives. You MUST have a port that has a dual USB/eSATA as it uses the voltage off the USB port. I am sick of reviews done by people without the proper technical background. This is a MUST buy - beats those external cases!

Cons: Not a USB connection and Specifications information lacking. Unless you have an Esata port and I have not seen any computer to date that has one, don't waste your money.

Pros: This is a special adaptor only usable with Power eSATA/ eSATA USB combo ports. The port is usable as both an eSATA and a USB port, and if special adaptors like this are used, it can supply power to an eSATA device through one cable. This is a good thing

Cons: the drive can come off the adaptor (on the drive end, of course) if you aren't careful.

Overall Review: I have seen people complain that this can't be used in a USB port or that it doesn't work because the drive doesn't get power. This is because they don't understand what this is. Google "eSATA USB combo" and you will understand. This cable is very special purpose. Be careful that this is what you need. It will only power laptop or solid state drives. It is not usable with desktop SATA drives.
