Pros: Does all that motherboard stuff....
Cons:
looks good, but led lights are quite dim. It would have been nice to have brighter ones we could choose to dim.
Not quite as many hardware options as previous equivalents, and for me some of the software tools packaged didn't play nice.
The M.2 cover is blocked by anything in the lower pcie slot, so to get to it any card must be removed. In a watercooled build, as this board is obviously for, that's dissapointing. Mine is hardlined and having to drain and dis-assemble, re-assemble, then go through the process of verifying no leaks.....just to get to it...is why the additional M.2 I will add at some point is still sitting on the desk.
*At this point I have been using it 2 months, roughly. I have not yet overclocked on this machine. Other builds
Asus builds are X99 deluxe w/ 5930k @4.5ghz and Rampage V Extreme edition 10 w/ 6850k @ 4.7ghz.
This formula is paired with a 9900k
Pros:
Can overclock pretty well, and not too hard to troubleshoot. Pairs pretty well with the asus thor and asus ryujin (will use the water blocks in the future).
The GPU I have was blocking the Asus logo but thankfully placing it in the second pcie slot allows you to view most of the beauty of this board. For the price You should plan to take advantage of all the features.
The live dash can also provide you with the codes on any boot problems you may have. (If you are not booting but everything powers on and it cycles through codes take everything apart and re-seat the cpu since adjusting it fixed my first problem)
Cons:
Like others have said the rgb lights may as well be non existent. Also had trouble with detecting my hard drives but was able to solve the problem by disconnecting everything. Re-seating the cpu and updating the bios. I also changed where the sata cables were connected as an added measure and have not moved it since I got it to work.
Aura sync and live dash were the worst experience to get working but was able to get it working by uninstalling any other related asus programs>going to the support website for the exact motherboard and downloading the drivers under the utilities tab. YOU ALSO NEED AI SUITE 3 installed, I'm not sure how or why but having AI SUITE 3+LIVE DASH+AURA SYNC will allow (or at least allowed me to) control of the live dash and rgb. Aura crate is another bios optional download that will just install bloatware along with some "needed programs". On that not DO NOT USE AURA CRATE to download the three programs I mentioned.
For some weird reason installing this board in the Corsair RGB Spec Omega, I could not screw in the top left or right screws in a straight direction. Every other screw went in fine, but these two I have to rely on luck on not breaking the board.
Overall Review: While the 8 phase lie hurts, it can still overclock very well, and overall is a great motherboard. The programs in tandem was a headache but I feel was worth it after all the effort (T_T). The rgb is supremely disappointing on the motherboard even in total dark conditions (please do not underestimate how dim these lights are. Despite all these cons I give this board 4 stars for the features alone. Not many boards at this ATX size come with this many features with its abundant headaches while still looking disappointingly beautiful. This board makes me feel like I contradict myself but who cares if you love the look of this board and the fact that it has water blocks I suggest giving it a try but follow my steps if you can if you encounter problems.
Pros:
- built in EK cooling
- for the most part a good looking board
Cons:
- VRM advertising was deceptive and not what I expected to get in a motherboard this expensive.
- the led lighting was deceptively bright in the images when in fact they are very very dull. Barely even visible from any distance.
- there are small scratches on the vrm blocks
Overall Review: I have been building PCs for myself, my family and my friends for over 15 years. I go with, and suggest an ASUS motherboard every single time. I have been saving up for a modded custom watercooled build for a long time and finally got myself the motherboard I thought was perfect for the build. I paid a high price for this motherboard expecting the quality I usually get from ASUS, especially for being a ROG Formula. If it wasn't past the 30 day return I would definitely return it. Why they would need to be deceptive with the Formula which is usually such an amazing product, I just don't understand. Needless to say I will not be recommending ASUS nor using their products in any build in the future. Shame.
Pros:
Arrived no scratches no bent pins - perfect condition.
It is the only Z390 Chipset Motherboard that features an integrated VRM waterblock AKA EK's CrossChill
Great RGB Accent Lighting
Awesome LCD display just below the CPU socket
Cons:
Only one of the m.2 slots runs at 4X the other runs at 2X. Running 2 M.2's forces both M.2's to run at 2X speed.
The 3rd PCIe slot uses the same bandwidth as SATA ports 5 and 6 so if you are using tons of stuff you will be forced to choose either PCIe slot 3 or SATA ports 5 and 6.
None of which are deal breakers.
Overall Review: I made a video review of this motherboard which can be seen here ---- https://youtu.be/pU9erOhIM18
Pros: So I was building a hardline loop for my system and decided to splurge and upgrade from my Maximus XI Hero to the formula. Primarily decided upon because of the included VRM waterblocks from EK and the overall build aesthetics. I’ve been a huge fan of the Maximus line for a while and I was shocked that when I peeled the protective plastic around the mirror style chrome sections of the water block when I noticed a tiny scratch that I thought could be wiped away by a moist microfiber cloth turned that little scratch into a HUGE black blemish. I’ve never seen anything like that especially on an admittedly outrageously expensive product. If you buy the board LEAVE the ugly plastic on because it looks better than a huge black mark. Not sure if I’m going to return it or if I can but next time I will be going with a Gigabyte board.
Cons: There are virtually no upgrades from the XI Hero aside from looks so you are still getting the 4+2 phase VRM not 8 phase. Like I said I advise leaving the protective plastic on so your $400+ board doesn’t look like trash from a tiny scratch.
Overall Review: Very disappointed with Asus right now. I was fine with the VRM layout honestly as it is efficient but when you are charging such a premium on a mainstream board I expect high quality.
Pros: Looks nice
Cons:
The board was DOA... I didn't build the system for about a month (long enough for newegg warranty to run out)
and when i contacted Asus... they spent 15-20 hours wasting my time jerking me around... finally I send the board back for ""repairs"" and they decide I have to pay to fix a "bent pin" even though there are NUMEROUS other problems with the board...
Asus customer service is literally the most frustrating thing I have ever had to deal with. Constantly apologizing and sending me to another representative who can't actually get anything done.
My only option now is to sue them in small claims court and file better business bureau complaints... But all this will do is waste MORE of my time.
Pros:
Integrated VRM Waterblock
AI Overclocking
LiveDash Display
ASUS UEFI
Cons: The only CON I have with this motherboard is the difficulty in installing in my Thermaltake View 71 TG case. With the integrated I/O shield, getting the motherboard standoffs to align with the motherboard holes is very difficult. However, after applying a pushing force towards the I/O cut-out I was finally able to mostly align the motherboard with the case standoffs, but it was no easy task.
Overall Review: Originally I had given this motherboard a 1 EGG rating but now I am changing to 4 EGGS...would easily have given 5 EGGS had it not been for the great amount of time and frustration installing this board into my case.

Pros: I got 2 of this and they run fast. great for gaming.
Cons: I received a used motherboard. I paid for brand new but received a used motherboard. Found Finger print inside the heatsink of the mortherboard. You'll see it when you open the cap.
Overall Review: please check before you ship.
