Very elegant design, excellent value and functionality.3/6/2021 2:09:40 PM
Overall Review: I'm really just writing this review to inform people that they need to have an 11th Gen intel processor for the first M.2 slot to work. Someone else commented that they were having issues and I thought I had the same thing until I looked at the manual. It's for PCIE 4.0 only and therefore you need the new upcoming ix-11xxx series intel processors to use it.
Great MB at a great price... BUT!8/21/2021 4:10:07 AM
Pros: Easy to install into case
No I/O cover to deal with
Support for M.2 Ver. 4
Multiple M.2 interface locations
Good diagnostic LEDs; some MBs don't have these anymore
ASUS tech support available via email
Cons: No basic built-in LAN support
Overall Review: This MB is a very attractive unit and sportsh the 590 chipset, which I wanted to install, which allows the Intel 11th Gen CPUs (I chose the i7-11700K). The price is very reasonable for a MB with the features it contains: 590 chipset, 2.5G LAN, multiple M.2 locations - particularly Gen. 4 (sadly, only one), integrated I/O output plate (no more scratched fingers and knuckles).
Everything fits very well and connections are solid. It is a heavy board, what with the large heatsinks and the aforementioned I/O structure.
I rate this as 5 eggs, DESPITE the one, truly bothersome deficiency. Fortunately I was able to ultimately overcome that, but unfortunately it took multiple sessions with ASUS tech support. In a nutshell, the MB did not support any LAN connectivity by default at the time of OS installation.
Time after time I got to the point in the Windows 10 installation where it tells you it is necessary to be connected to the Internet. This board was "dead" as far as the LAN went.
The ultimate solution was to download the LAN drivers from ASUS and put onto a flash drive. At the very beginning of Windows 10 installation there is a window asking which drive you wish to target for the OS. At the bottom is a prompt to Load Drivers. Select that, navigate to the flash drive and install. After that the installation is a breeze!
I have built many systems, both desktops and servers, but have never before experienced this issue. Maybe I have just been lucky with all the boards I have used in the past, but I am not so sure.
ASUS should either: 1. Make sure that basic connectivity is enabled by default on the board, or 2. Make it very clear in the MB documentation that loading the LAN drivers will be required in order to connect to the Internet during OS installation. It wouldn't matter to me which they do, but they should definitely do one or the other!
Did I mention that this is a really good board??

Overall really good configuration and options4/6/2021 8:07:17 AM
Pros: Lots of interfaces so you can mix and match a lot of I/O.I bought this one because it supports the 10th gen and 11th gen (which unlocks PCIe 4.0 and a dedicated NVMe using 4 PCIe 4.0 lanes). I bought a 10th gen Intel as a placeholder until the new ones came out.The manual is pretty clear on where connectors are so there aren't many surprises. Most "1st timers" shouldn't have much problem getting this installed and going.
Cons: Lacks integrated WiFI, but this is known based on the specs. The stock release comes with a BIOS that manifests many bugs (in Windows). You need at least the 0605 BIOS update to gain stability. For instance, copying from one USB 3.0 backup drive to another one 'crashes' after 20GB. It didn't matter which 20GB of content it was. And to make things worse both USB devices were unrecognizable by Windows after that. It required a full reboot to clear out whatever EM signal foo was clogging up the I/O. Literally the only change I made to my system was tossing 0605 on a USB stick and booting into the bios and updating it. Windows hasn't dropped a transfer between USBs yet. (yay)
Overall Review: I like it. I got this as an interim (and last - hopefully) Intel-based platform. I'm more of an AMD kind of guy and just wanted a farewell build for Intel that I can point to in 20 years and go 'yep that was a good lil fella". Not expecting anything special, but I got special anyway. Again, with the 11th gen you can unlock PCIe 4.0 which *might* make this useful even though later this year the 12th gen enabled PCIe 5.0 support...

ethernet cable not detected10/26/2021 8:08:10 PM
Pros: decent board, works ok.
Cons: ethernet cable does not get detected by the on board ethernet port out of the box. after doin research and figuring out how to get it to work it only upload/downloads at 1mb/s max. had to buy ethernet pcie adapter. the pcie adapter detected ethernet cable just fine and am running full capacity on upload/download speeds.. do not want to send the board back as i do not want to be waiting for a new one for how ever long it would take to get a new one
Overall Review: im sure its a decent board, i just got one with a faulty ethernet port

Solid ASUS quality board9/13/2021 2:14:26 PM
Pros: Price
Features
Quality
Ease of use
Cons: C state issues and speaker feedback
No case badge?
Overall Review: Quick FYI - this board IS compatible with Windows 11 out of the box. No additional TPM module purchase is necessary. Just make sure you update to the most recent BIOS.
When installing Windows, download the ASUS 2.5 Ghz LAN driver from the boards support page. Unzip and copy to the flash drive youre installing Windows from. Youll need it during Windows installation for your LAN to be recognized.
This is yet another solid board with the quality Ive come to expect from ASUS. Every build Ive done has been with an ASUS board and they just keep getting better and better. The boards construction is solid, logical, and aesthetically pleasing. It has features that will appease overclocking enthusiasts and avid gamers. Cant go wrong with this one! I upgraded from a Z170-A and this was exactly what I wanted for the price point.
Another helpful tip for anyone who comes across this issue. I use the onboard sound card with older Logitech 5.1 setup. They connect with the 3mm jacks. I kept getting an odd feedback sound through the speakers. If you disable the C-states for the CPU in the BIOS this feedback will go away. It does not negatively impact the performance of the CPU, but it may cause you to draw slightly more power since the CPU isnt powering down to lower states. Its kind of a useless feature anyway, IMO.
Pros: Solid ASUS MB with 5 fan slots and a dedicated Water Pump output. Easy to follow build instructions and good layout for clean case with limited wires visible. ASUS has the best custom BIOS setups, we noticed our old water pump was not running on start. We are paried with a Gen 10 CPU and ready for Gen 11 when prices get real.
