The ABIT AB9 Pro motherboard was one of the first boards on the scene based on the Intel P965 chipset with support for Intel's powerful and energy-efficient Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors. It features up to 8 GB dual-channel DDR2 800/667/533 memory with Fast Memory Access technology for maximum platform performance.
Home entertainment applications such as movies, private videos, music, and much more lead to growing demands for storage and high data throughput. The ABIT AB9 Pro is ready for the job with dual PCIe Gigabit LAN, two Firewire ports and a whopping 10 USB 2.0 ports as well as 9 SATA ports and one external SATA connector for unparalleled storage flexibility. This impressive upgradeability and expandability leaves more than enough room for even the most demanding storage needs now and in the future.
Intel P965+ICH8R Chipset The Intel P965 Express Chipset incorporates Intel Fast Memory Access technology to significantly increase overall system performance by optimizing available bandwidth and reduction of memory access latency. Up to dual-channel DDR2 800 memory is supported by the P965 chipset to provide up to 12.8 GB/s peak memory bandwidth for greater platform performance and memory flexibility. The ICH8R also features SATA 3Gb/s with Intel Matrix Storage Technology support, High-Speed USB 2.0 and HD Audio support.
Intel Core 2 Processor Support This motherboard supports the next-generation LGA 775 Intel Core 2 processors, including the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme. With new Intel Core microarchitecture technology, the Intel Core 2 processors are considered some of the most powerful and energy efficient CPUs in the world.
Silent OTES Cooling The Silent OTES cooling solution keeps the chipset and MOSFETs cool with the latest heatpipe technology. Heatpipes do without an active fan, cutting down on noise pollution from your case and enhancing the stability of components on your motherboard.
ABIT µGuru Technology Exclusive ABIT-Engineered motherboard technology is designed for unprecedented power, convenience and control over your PC. µGuru enables end-users to reach a higher state of hardware awareness and enlightenment, providing users the perfect environment with which to maximize system performance and stability.
10 SATA 3Gb/s Connectors with RAID The ABIT AB9 PRO features 9 internal SATA 3Gb/s connectors and an external SATA 3Gb/s port to satisfy even the most storage-hungry demands. The JMicron JMB363 and Intel ICH8R feature 8 internal SATA ports with RAID support and the PCIe Silicon Image Sil3132 controller supports an external SATA and an additional internal SATA 3Gb/s interface allowing RAID 0 and RAID 1.
S/PDIF In/Out Interface S/PDIF allows connections to today's hottest digital audio devices without signal loss. Connect S/PDIF out to an AC-3 decoder for full-on theater quality digital sound.
Pros: Newegg got here fast.
Cons: Doesn't boot- sticks at post code C1. Technical support at Abit never responds. Abit charges $7 +$20 for cross shipping a replacement. Doesn't work with 1.9v or above RAM, changed ram to 1.8v doesn't work. tried clearing CMOS doesn't work. Tried removing battery doesn't work.
Overall Review: This is the third manufacturer of MB's I have gotten no response from Tech support when I find an issue with their MB. I have built hundreds of custom machines and Abit is the worse customer support I have found next to EVGA.
Pros: nice to look at and has everything i wanted.
Cons:
one board dead out of the box and another just stuborn
it doesnt like my hard drives,it didnt like my processor and its not to fond of my memory. it hasnt complained any about the power supply. alarms work fine and so does the freezing up.
Overall Review: i dont recommend this for a first time builder. be sure to visit abit web site for processor and memory type. learn japanese and get an intercom with auto dialing before trying to speak to a tech.
Pros: None
Cons: The board would not boot No matter what i tried, I miss the 30day window for neweggs return policy (my fault) Abit return policy is not vert good.
Overall Review: This would have been a relly good motherboard if it would have worked.
Pros:
XP SP3 install was a breeze. Installed all drivers from disc, and updated as necessary. Came with Bios V 16.
Using Raptor for main drive and 6 TB drives JBOD for my dvd library. Using E4600, booted up fine.
Cons: Bios in in pink instead of blue.
Overall Review: Had to set the SATA to AHCI from IDE to make it recognize all the TB drives. Works very well. All working concurrently on Vista MC!
Pros:
Plenty of ports for a good low price.
Reliable, run cool and quiet.
Cons:
Abit site show this product as discontinue, so this may be a problem as future unfold. It could mean no more bios update and no more new CPU support.
The BIOS doesn't have boot menu, where you can select boot device after POST w/o going into BIOS. And that's a big point reduction for me.
Overall Review: I brought this board along w/ E2180 to build it as a file server. And it's perfect for it. 9 SATA ports and 1 eSATA. It's made for a file server. I have it ran 24/7 for a few days now w/o any problem.
Pros: Lots of SATA Ports, SPDIF, overclockable, cheap
Cons: Randomly died while I was watching a movie. Post code 9.0. Had to fix the 2A post code when I first got it. It's picky about RAM. Takes some work to get it running just right.
Overall Review: If it hadn't died all of a sudden it would have still been only an ok mobo.
Pros: Lots of built in devices, well layed out board, excellent CPU compatibility
Cons: Lots of built in devices, it has two SATA controllers and one IDE controller built in! to handle the 10 SATA ports which causes there to be a lot of shared resources which tends to lead to system whackyness and general instability highlighting the boards next major con. It wasn’t stable until I flashed the bios to the latest release(on top of shutting off unused devices…..using floppies…. this is 2008! flashing BIOSes with floppies when out at least 5 years ago! what a huge PITA. Some other minor annoyances poor drivers for 64-bit OS’es mainly sound and uGuru?(I could not find a 64-bit driver for the uGuru device)
Overall Review: This will be the last Abit board i buy unfortunately

Pros: Every Abit board I have use have been GREAT!
You have to be careful with them, because they have alot of features on the board.
I use every caution to keep it Cool.
My main system suppors Routers, 4 camera, Video Rec, Three Sata Harddrv, Three DVD Drv,Zip Drives and it runs cools with the proper cooling. I even have coolers on my Memory (Patriot). The Patriot Memory I 've purchase for Newegg has been running like a champ!
Cons: Guru information could be a little more straight forward for beginners. But the high end boards are not for beginners
Overall Review: Make sure you use a reliable steady power source.
This can make or break a good board.
Newegg gets all of my business. I hate when Newegg is out of stock and I have to the OTHER web stores
