  • newegg GIGABYTE Touch BIOS Navigating through the BIOS to change system settings can be a daunting task for users not familiar with control “F” functions and mouse-less navigation. While some EFI BIOS try to address this with a mouse friendly environment, many implementations still lack certain ease-of-use necessary for most people. With GIGABYTE Touch BIOS, GIGABYTE engineers have completely re-imagined how users can interact with their BIOS, allowing for a more intuitive user experience. In fact, with a touch screen monitor, GIGABYTE Touch BIOS is as easy to use as most apps on your iPhone.
  • newegg Supports Intel Smart Response Technology GIGABYTE Z68 series motherboards are equipped with the much anticipated Intel Smart Response Technology, allowing users to experience system performance similar to SSD only systems. Intel Smart Response technology works by using intelligent block-based caching of frequently used applications to improve system performance and responsiveness. In fact, GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards with Intel Smart Response Technology are able to outperform hybrid drive systems by more than 2X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and HDD-only systems by as much as 4X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and deliver a 60% performance improvement over HDD-only systems in PC Mark Vantage Suite.
  • newegg GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response The GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response utility is a simple application that allows users to quickly and easily configure their system for Intel Smart Response Technology. In the past, enabling Intel Smart Response meant users needed to enter the BIOS in order to configure their system for RAID mode, which then required a complete reinstall of the operating system. Once that processes was complete, users then needed to install the Intel Rapid Storage Utility as well as configure Intel's Smart Response Technology. GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response does all of this automatically, without users having to perform a complicated install process. This allows them to quickly and effortlessly enjoy a significant boost in system performance.
  • newegg Switchable Graphics with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards are enabled with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization technology which allows users to dynamically switch between their built-in graphics and their high-end, 3D discrete graphics cards. This is ideal for gamers who require high-resolution gaming and still want to enjoy the built-in media features of 2nd generation Intel Core processors. In so doing, switchable graphics helps to dramatically reduce PC graphics power consumption.
  • newegg Multi-GPU support with CrossFireX and SLI Flexible graphics capabilities supported for either CrossFireX or SLI action, delivering the ultimate in graphics performance for gaming enthusiasts who demand the highest frame rates without compromising on resolution.
  • newegg On/Off Charge Technology GIGABYTE On/Off Charge technology allows you to charge your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch regardless of whether your PC is on, in standby mode or even off. A derivative of GIGABYTE's highly acclaimed 3x USB Power feature, On/Off Charge enables devices to draw more current from GIGABYTE motherboard USB ports than standard USB ports allow, so that charging from your PC can be as fast as with a charger.

Boot loop death

Pros: Worked good for 3 years

Cons: Boot Loop of Death

Other Thoughts: Don't buy gigabyte! Obviously there is an on going problem with the boot loop issue. GIGABYTE NEVER AGAIN!

Reliable performance after years of service!

Pros: For more than 4 years now, I have used this exact motherboard (REV: 1.0) as the core of my primary gaming rig. It has proven to be stable, fast and issue free. I am not one to overclock, so I can't speak to its related capabilities/limitations here. However, running my Intel i7-2600K at 'stock' settings has worked so well that I have not felt the need to upgrade for any reason and will carry this setup into 2016. I am a PC gamer and this build was to keep up with that hobby. Despite only having PCIe 2.0 slots, with only one running at x16 speeds, to this day there are no known performance bottlenecks with single graphics cards installed on such a slot.

The board feels like it has good build quality and installation was easy, as best as I can recall from over 4 years ago. I have used Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) and Windows 10 Home (64bit) with no driver issues at all, despite Gigabyte's site not providing all (they have 2) drivers for Win10 (just use the Win7 ones, they seem to work fine).

It pleases me to know that I could install an Nvidia GTX 980Ti into this board and still get 100% of the rated performance out of it; longevity is definitely a feature to recommend a product by.

Reading the 1 Egg reviews indicates that maybe a run of these boards had issues with 'boot loops' and bad RAM slots. I have not had any of these occur on my end. I use the DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 slots with a matched 4GB stick in each and it works fine. BIOS updates were provided for awhile and they even released a UEFI version which the board originally never had; I consider that good support on Gigabyte's part.

Cons: Moving to this board from my old ASRock 775Dual-VSTA did cause a few issues for me:

1. This board lacks a GamePort header, so I could no longer use my old Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Pro with my computer.

2. This board lacks any PATA ports, thus requiring me to purchase a powered PATA to SATA adapter device to continue to use my trusty LG GCC-4320B DVD/CD-RW drive in this build.

3. Compared to modern specifications and by no fault of this board, it lacks DDR4, a newer Intel chipset/socket for anything beyond Ivy Bridge CPUs, native USB 3.0 (or even 3.1) [this board does have 2 USB 3.0 ports via an Etron EJ168 chip], PCIe 3.0, M.2 slots for the newest SSDs and all SATA ports being III [this board only has 2 ports at III speeds].

Other Thoughts: Full Disclosure: I am writing this honest review as part of a drawing being held by Gigabyte that requires reviews of owned Gigabyte products to be written for a chance to win a prize. Despite this, my opinions here stand uninfluenced by this incentive.

Decent with some issues

Pros: Lots of BIOS options, RAID, plays well with peripherals, etc.
I had few issues with this mobo until yesterday. The few and the "big" one are detailed in cons.

Cons: RAID and EFI don't play well with a PCI RAID card. It's basically impossible to use RAID to boot off of. Maybe that's for the best. It was a pain to get it working with a rather standard rocketraid card, though.

The BIOS is "hybrid" but not really. Windows won't install in EFI mode.

The major issue I can't figure out came about yesterday. I'd had intermittent issues with the LAN that were fixed by rebooting. I have a Wireless-N card in it, so usually I just switch to it when the LAN stops working until I feel like rebooting.

This time, however, the LAN is gone. It's enabled in BIOS, drivers are installed, reinstalled, etc. It doesn't show up anywhere in Windows device manager, nothing lights up, no pulse. Ethernet cable works in other computers. "Deep sleep" solutions don't help, as the driver installer states it couldn't find the hardware, make sure it's not in deep sleep mode. The only thing that could have possibly caused this (really at most just exacerbated existing problems) is that I was playing with an Arduino and shorted it a couple times while it was plugged into my case's front USB ports. I don't really see how a USB connected device could break the LAN, though, since the USB still works.

Other Thoughts: All-in-all I'd say I've been happy with this board. I'm just wishing the LAN hadn't crapped out after a couple years of use (mostly on wifi anyway)

Compatibility and Reboot Issues.

Pros: Works Great With My Amd 6850.

Cons: Bios reboots over and over. Will not support my new nvidea 760 so either I have to get a new mother board. Or send the card back....

loop boot and virtualization problems

Pros: Runs nice, nice EFI BIOS config options, the specs fit all my requirements - would have been 4 eggs if no loop boot issues

Cons: The loop boot problem for GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 is real. I had my system working fine for more then 5 months untill one day when it started continuously booting every 2-4 seconds, without beep (no POST).

In my case resetting CMOS via jumpers (per manual) didn't work. I removed the CMOS battery for more then 30 min (... and put it back in^^). Still boot loop. The PSU is fine (I had the luxury to test the board with another compatible PSU). I removed every single component (except the i7 CPU and its fan/heatsink) and unsuccesfully tried all memory combinations (I had 4 memory chips) including no memory at all. I bread-boarded the system (basically got it outside of the box and run it on a cardboard) to rule out any shot-circuit with the case. The results: still boot loop and no POST beeps.

Maybe I should try with a different CMOS battery - but I doubt results will change (and even if this is the case and a discharged battery causes such problems on this board I would still recommend you to avoid buying it).

One extra problem - few month ago I had some problems with WiFi (on this machine that was otherwise working fine at that time). The problems happened after I had installed some virtualization software. That's fine I looked on the forums for that software and surprise - it turns out that the issue was well documented and was manifesting only on two Gigabyte mother boards with - one of them being... (you guessed it): GA-Z68A-D3H-B3.

The fix for the motherboard problem was in that case to install newer firmware - which I did using the Q-Flash embedded in the BIOS. The computer still worked for a while after the Q-Flash update. Was that the cause for the boot loop that I am experiencing now? Or maybe it was a driver update for the i7 integrated HD3000 graphics card? I don't know... But another question is raised here - why only the Gigabyte mobo-s had issues with their firmware?

Also - if you want to overclock your board, buy something else - gamers dont use this board - I bought it because I was cheapo and didnt needed a real graphics card (wanted to relay on the integrated Intel HD 3000). The boot loop is not related to overclocking though. This system was never overclocked.

Anyway - maybe you will get luckier then me, however I will not take any other risks with Gigabyte.

Does not support 4 RAM cards

Pros: Works great with 2 RAM cards

Cons: Won't work with 4 identical RAM cards. Used it for a couple years with G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 2X4GB, then upgraded to Ripjaws DDR3 1600 4X8GB and it brought the machine to a snail pace, removed 2 of the 8GB cards and it works fine - now I see lots of other posts with unhappy people. They claim it will support 32G but it does not. Probably will never buy a Gigabyte product again!

1. Please inspect the motherboard CPU socket for visible bent pins.

2. Have you tested each DIMM slots using a single stick of RAM to make sure all slots work?
