Love the MB, but instructions were confusing for my first time with RBG lightning

Pros: RGB lighting is very nice
Wasn't too hard getting it into my case and hooking everything up
The packaging it came in is pretty nice
Motherboard instructions were pretty clear

Cons: Aorus fan commander instructions really need to be updated and more detailed
Gigabyte support has still yet to respond to me after a week
Software that came with MB is a bit clunky

Overall Review: So, let me first say, this is not my first time around a computer. This is my second build, but I've been tinkering with computers all my life. With that said, this is my first time using RGB lighting. I went all out and got a Corsair 570x case, H100i RGB water cooler, and some Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM. All in all, I loved the way it looked.

The first issue I had was getting the RGB lights synced up with each other. After trying the fan/RGB controller that came with my Corsair case, I didn't like the limited options it had, so I decided to trying the Aorus fan commander that come with my motherboard. It came within it's own box inside the motherboard box and had everything well organized. It also had it's own instructions that came separate from the motherboard manual. So, I hooked it all up, following the instructions to the T. However, when I got to plugging the 4-pin RGB connections into it, I got confused because there was no 'dummy proof' way of plugging the 4-pin connector into it. The instructions never mentioned any specific way of plugging it in, nor did it mention any warning of plugging it in incorrectly. So, I just plugged it in whatever way I was holding it at the time thinking that it must be able to go either way. When I got done, I turned on my computer, heard some popping, then quickly shut it off. The Aorus fan commander smelled burnt, so I thought I must've gotten a defective one. Then, I took out the Aorus fan commander and hooked everything up the way I had it previously just to find out that my RGB fans are no longer lighting up (two are partially lighting up as just solid colors, but I can't change or control them in any way). That's when I realized, I did something wrong. I researched a bit and found out that I plugged the 4-pin RGB connectors in wrong. So, that's where I stand here today, with 6 fried RGB fans. The only plus side is that they still work as fans. But, I didn't pay all that money just for fans. I do admit that this was partially user error, however, I was expecting the instructions to warn me of anything serious to look out for.

I did email Gigabyte support about a week ago, still have yet to hear anything back.

Overall, I really love the motherboard, everything works flawlessly, and I didn't have any big issues setting it up. I'm just super bummed out that this happened, and that Gigabyte support won't email me back.

It is what it is, exactly as it says it is.

Pros: Not sure if it matters but I am a Journeyman in Electric Motor and Transformer Repairs, with electronics knowledge. Received mine, in perfect condition, perfectly packed, no damage, no missing parts, all still sealed in plastic bags. So far everything works, no bad slots, no bad anything. Bought a Intel i9-9900k just for it. Lucked out on buying DDR4 ram no longer available on Newegg, only from Corsair. Dominator Platinum Special Edition Torque 32GB (4x8GB), DDR4 DRAM 3200MHzC14 Memory kit, limited edition #0419 Samsung B-Die. Temps are 34 degrees C, Its on Newegg site, just not available, at XMP total boot time is about 15 seconds. Just a nice white light strip across the top, no RGB to interfere with Overclocking. My board is currently running on auto in BIOS, XMP enabled, CPU at 4700MHZ at 28 degrees C., just using a CoolerMaster Masterair MA410P bought from Newegg. It also has been running at 5000MHZ as well at 32 degres C, no issues. Waiting to get a excellent water cooler before I try Overclocking. Also still looking for a excellent video card at the right price. Hey, its a top notch board, deserves top notch addons. After comparing/reviewing all the Intel Extreme ATX motherboards on the market for the Intel i9-9900k, in this board's price range, this has most, (all my opinion), the qualities, options, and then some, the other boards do not. I received a full color Manual with my board. Installed easily in a Corsair Vengeance C70 case, right angle board power plug no issue. But, I did make custom offsets extenders for the board to sit a little higher in the case, to insure the RGB strip right side of board was sitting at least 1/8 inch off the case. If you do not put in the special insulating washers in this case anyway you will have the board installed to close to the case, also the board will be off by 1/8 inch at the preinstalled offsets center screws, and bend the board at the center screws if you try to install it, without the washers. A little time consuming, but if you want it right, do it right the first time. The board has 4 RGB headers on it 2 digital 2 other. Connect everything right it should all work as Gigabyte says it should. It does for me, Gigabyte apps included. Its a lot of addons, you just need to work with them.

Cons: NONE, all the problems I have read in reviews can be solved by reading the manual, going to Gigabyte's site, and Microsoft if you are using Windows 10 any version, and using common sense. Please read my other thoughts, it is something I learned by doing things 1 at a time. And very important. My idea running MS File Checker was from reading about other boards with other issues, after others just installing other apps on Microsoft site, but not like mine.

Overall Review: For starters, if you have any issues and you running Windows 10, version 1809, make sure all your updates are up to date, after you install all the apps from Gigabyte, do 1 very important thing. Go to Microsoft and get the info to Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe). Even though I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, from a USB drive, Evo 850, all updated, in my case, after installing the Gigabyte apps, the install appears to interfere with windows and causes corruption of files. BSOD many times after apps installed. File checker repaired all mine, zero issues after that. And current version of bios is F5.
My personal opinion of those saying Gigabyte UEFI Bios are confusing, as opposed to Asus, my advice is read, many simple complaints/issues are easily found in the available info on the Gigabyte website, and the manual for this board I already have downloaded. As for Asus products/support, I have had issues with their boards update/support issues, the updater hardly ever worked, did update Bios, etc., manually. Giving Gigabyte a try instead. This is a higher tech board, more knowledge is required to use it. Have a DOA board on arrival, I say check your power supply first. Install ram that does not work, use MS File Checker. Its a high tech board, learn how to use it, take your time, and you will find the board does all it says it does. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a top of the line motherboard. As I have said its high tech, buy it, be careful how you install it, including its addons, your addons, you will end up greatly rewarded taking your time doing it.

UPDATE MY REVIEW:After having my motherboard for a month, I have read there is a lot of confusion reference Gigabyte App Center and RGB Fusion is junk, not work etc., That is not true. To install Windows 10 Pro /Windows 10 as GPT and not MBR, (MBR limits your abilities), do the following, start with a new SSD or HDD, or just overwrite the drive you have, VERY IMPORTANT, CLEAR CMOS SETTINGS ACCORDING TO YOUR BOARD INSTRUCTIONS, mine turn off PC, turn off power supply, hold reset button, turn on power supply, turn on PC, will automatically go to UEFI BIOS, set UEFI Bios accordingly, UEFI BIOS enabled, disable CSM, enable Secure Boot, enable Fast Boot. I did a clean install from USB, Windows 10 Pro retail version. Was installed as GPT. Return to UEFI BIOS, disable Secure Boot, disable Fast Boot, leave CSM disabled. The Gigabyte App Center and all installed apps with it including RGB Fusion will work as intended. If you have issues with some of the apps. some settings can be found in UEFI BIOS. Many of the settings say, Not configurable unless, a option is enabled/disabled, you might think that means the setting does not matter, it does, you have to enable/disable a setting, set the options within it, they are not visible unless you do this, then return to the main option to your desired setting, default, etc., it is one of the reasons some say Gigabyte UEFI BIOS are confusing. As a example, I found if Secure Boot is enabled in UEFI BIOS, many of the apps will not work, and Windows boot Manager will be your only option for Booting. I also Installed a Gigabyte AORUS Xtreme Ge Force RTX 2060. No issues. Also be leery of Windows 10, May 10, 2019 update, I installed, it would not recognize my addon PCI express sound card. Uninstalled it everything worked fine.

Highly Recommended

Pros: I mostly do video encoding work with my build. So I use the on board Graphics through the Thunderbolt 3 connector driving a 4k 32" monitor to perfection.
The rest of was was my first build:
Core I9 9900K
Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C White Case
2x16 Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM
Corsair H100I cooling (i get 55C max temp on the I9 under full stress test, idles at high 20's.
SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3. X4, NVMe
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G3

The 10GB ethernet chip just puts this board over the top. I dropped a 10GB card into my second synology NAS and set up a direct connection from the box to the NAS and get 700GB/sec read and 500GB/sec write. I set up a share on the NAS mapped to windows so I basically have was seems like 25TB of local storage in my system. No more need for "data drives" I edit video directly from the NAS. And everything is backed up daily to my original NAS, what a joy!

Sure its $550, but if you were to add TB3 and 10GB Ethernet to other "top of the line" boards you're at $550+ anyway. I haven't even played with the overclocking board that comes with it. If you have the money look no further this is the best board on the market for the Z390 chipset.

Cons: The EATX size board covers most of the hole to fit the 24 pin power cable, So I had to route it through a differently which is not a neat looking as it could be. I could roto-tool it bigger but its not that much of an issue for my taste. Be careful of the case you put this in if you're very particular about cable management issues.

The other CON is the fan commander controller box just doesn't work. There is no lighting control the Corsair RGB fan lighting effects. It's a complete waste of time to install and to be polite the instructions included are a joke! I'll get around to getting the corsair unit one of these days.

Love this board!

Pros: It's very oc stable. I've done some crazy ranges and it still behaves and/or resets back if things go wrong. I can really push it if I want to, and the RGB's are lovely up close in person! Pair these with the TridentZ and I can stare at them up close, all day.

Cons: None so far, maybe if they had more RGB light strips not only on the right side, but on the bottom and left side and top, it would be even bettere!
Very expensive, I don't know if it's worth paying 2x for the same stuff master provides...

Awesome board

Pros: 16 phase vrm
Supporta 64g ram
Oc touch panel is included
rgb is awesome
Clean bios (easy overclocking)
Dual bios
3 m.2 slots
Clear CMOS button... if you know you know ;)

Cons: No PLX chip (not that i need it, but the board is 550...)

Overall Review: Had this board for 3 months now and absolutely love it. Its a great board for overclocking with the i9.

Very high quality board

Pros: 16 phase VRM (what we all came for)
Top of the line wi-fi
Massive heatsinks
RBG effects
Lots of fan headers
premium features such as the detachable OC board.
Metal backplate is a very nice feature.

Cons: RGB fusion software is trash and feels unpolished.
RGB commander is cheap garbage and doesn't work well. Does not work as a real port multiplier. It take one USB header and provides two headers. This is only good for power, you will not be able to control devices attached to this like AIO pumps or power supplies.

Overall Review: I hate the gigabyte software, I wasn't even going to download it until the "RBG fan commander" started acting up. I was hoping they had drivers for it since it was causing faults in my system (unknown USB devices attached).
RBG fusion made the motherboard default to all orange..... from the factory it was rainbow effect and that was good. Now it seems I have to have the RGB bloatware running to make it show rainbow effects.....
"RBG fan commander provides" 2 usb headers, I needed this because I had my corsair AIO pump, RM1000i and corsair RGB commander. The gigabyte RBG commander caused issues and would not let devices show up properly in windows. I could not control things connected to its USB headers. I will buy an NZXT internal port extender.

Basically, do not use the gigabyte RGB commander for extra USB headers unless you need only USB power.

I like the size of the box it comes in, but it really is about 20 lbs and you could probably bludgeon someone to death with it.

Overall, im here for the high end hardware that is on this board and nothing else. my i9-9900k runs nice and cool with an H115i. We will see how overclocking goes but starting out with the best board/VRMs will ensure the best experience.

Great Product, RGB, Connectors lacking?

Pros: Build Quality is Great
RGB options are insane
Easy to work with
Audio chip was awesome
Dual Bios
Easy to use Bios
16 phase vrm

Cons: Maybe more of an opinion. Right angle connectors. They were at least a pain to use with my case. C700M Looks clean though.
Lack of multiple USB 3.0 headers.
RGB fan controller didn't work with my setup(more of my fault, but would like to see a universal standard at some point)
The app center software is pretty bad.

Overall Review: No problems with the board, first one I got fired up no problems. My case does support e-atx, but it was a pain to get the usb 3.0 plug in, same with 24pin, I actually plugged in the usb 3.0 header first then dropped it in to the case so I wouldn't take the risk of bending pins.(More of a personal problem I guess.) A 2nd usb 3.0 header would have been amazing as well seeing it's an e-ATX, it felt like the USB headers were pretty lacking. My problem with the software is it seems to lag my computer. When I turn it on my fps will drop to 30. Also, the smart fan 5 doesn't work all the time. I've had to re-calibrate quite a few times while trying to figure out my fan curve. I guess I could have just done this in bios and be set, but it's nice to toggle between the quiet/standard/performance depending what I am doing.

Second time's a charm?

Pros: My last build was in 2012 with an ASUS ROG Rampage IV Gene w/Intel 3930k. I've use Gigabyte board prior so I know what to expect... Sort of.
• Board look amazing. board layout, RGB, HS design, etc...
• Hands down the best hardware for your money (I've compare both the MSI Godlike & Asus Maximus XI Extreme).
• Board compatibility with all my mixed RGB hardware.
• Fan commander with support to 8x fan and limitless RGB connector.
• No other board in the current market have a cooling design fin and pipe like this one. Usually they're all solid piece of aluminum.
• Overwhelming overclocking options within the Bios. 95% of it I don't cared for anyway.
• Sound chip is amazing. Blasting the music on my Logitech Z906 has never sounded so good. I can feel and hear the differences from the previous board.

Cons: First board arrived and I've waited like 3 weeks to get all the parts together for this new build. Finally put it all together and install Win10 version 1809... After a full and a half day of troubleshooting, I've come to a conclusion that the board have a possibly a bad chipset and a ethernet controller that won't installed. Plus, constant BSOD after install driver and stuff. So, I'd RMA it and wait patiently. I just wanted to make sure I give this board a second try before I do a fair review. New board finally came and I still have BSOD just like the first board, but it doesn't have any of the other problem. So now, the only thing to do is to find out why it still have BSOD. I've finally found the culprit for all those BSOD and it was the WIndows 1809 version I've installed. My windows key is genuine, but I've download the latest version off the torrent so that might be it. I've then downloaded a different version 1803 and no more BSOD. Everything is fine now and haven't had a problem so thus far. I'm not sure if I wanted to update windows to latest version (if it ain't broke don't fix it). There's still a small list of thing I dislike about this board.

• Gigabyte App Center needs work. It kept on promoting me every time windows startup on new update that I've already installed.
• Gigabyte Fusion need work too. Some buttons need to have a pop up text next to it to let user know what it does. Sometime I get confused with the import and export button.
• Every time my computer startup, there's a couple of "device connect" sound notification in a row to let you know a hardware has been connected. I got no idea which hardware is doing this. It happened to the first board and happened to this one too.
• A clicking/popping sound when you start your computer. Not a big problem I can get used to it. Just hope it doesn't get any louder.
• No easy pre-made overclocking features mode like Asus Bios. You have to go old school and dig inside the menu.
• Can't turn some fan off while connected to Fan Controller via SmartFan apps.
• Board CPU fan connector give too little power to my AIO cooler and the temp sky rocketed. I had to manually configured via Bios. I should have connected the AIO to the Fan Controller and config it within the SmartFan apps instead, but it is what it is.

Overall Review: Some of the cons Gigabyte can easily solved it by update. I've never had experience putting together an RGB rig before and it's a wire cluster mess and I have to do lots of research on compatibility. After putting this machine together, my rig look amazing. It's like a Vegas show without the slot machine sound and the dancing girls. Would I buy this again for a new build? Yes I would. The amount of hardware you get with this board is just too good to pass. Compare the specs yourself and you know what I'm talking about. Also, the price is lowered too. Sure it's expensive for most, but if you gotta have the best ATM. This is it. If you wanted a challenging build, and not afraid to do some major research, this board is for you.

* Note: before installing any driver/software you downloaded from Gigabyte website. Read their "note". As you must install some software in order.
