Great when it works.

Pros: Lots of room for expansion, RAID support, Dual GLAN, ESATA, space for my tri-SLI GTX 260s. Great board.

Cons: Had two of these in the past year. One had a bad DDR3 slot, and the other caught fire. (No overclockin') Thankfully looks like none of my other components were damaged, but quality control goes a long way.

Overall Review: Buy the extended warranty on this!

Only gave it the three eggs for reliability. Otherwise, it's great.

second time work great

Pros: plenty of room for upgrades, with this board it works for old tech PC, as well as newer tech, by that i mean you can have the flat cable floppy and HD or the new sata connection or Raid, 20 pin or 24pin connection

Cons: this was as more my fault, than the board i think, but my first board i fried because i installed software to overclock my video cards (two 5770's that refused to work right)

Fried 1 year 2 days after

Pros: Easy setup, great performance. Has 2 LAN builtin, only reason I bought this model.

Cons: Stopped working after 1 year. 2 days after 1 year warranty up, it stops (puff os smoke), LOL, figures.

Mixed bag

Pros: This dood advised the owner to purchase from NewEgg, and I then built the system for him.

Slot Spacing

Quad-SLI support

Homegrown super-computer potential, thanks to space and support for up to 3 Tesla GPU compute boards.

No interference between the RAM slots and the vid card, and all the drive headers are turned towards the edge, so big graphics cards don't hit those either.

Flexible connection headers all over the place: P4 power can be 4-pin or 8; Main power can be either 20- or 24-pin; CPU fan header handles both 3- and 4-pin; and there's something else that escapes memory.

Cons: Floppy header, if you need it, like for RAID in XP, is in a dumb place near the back-bottom corner. ('Back' meaning relative to the whole case.)

No LED on the mobo itself to indicate power.

The full manual is on the disk, not hard-copy, so you'd better be familiar with rigging a BIOS by yourself before first boot, or have a second computer nearby.

Alone, those are "quirks". But the board lost an egg because of the following: A constellation of wee circuit bits inhabits the space on the back side where an Intel-standard back plate might have to rest for a big cooler. They effectively block such a plate from sitting level on the board. They can be seen in NewEgg's own pic just to the bottom-right of the built in metal plate behind the socket.

Also, since this was for a performance build with 4x HDD's in RAID, I encountered a resource issue with the ATA channels. See in "Other thoughts" at the ##.

Overall Review: Voltage droop issues have been somewhat addressed on the newest revisions, and/or with a BIOS update. The various 'easy' or 'automatic' performance settings are inscrutable, but I had no intention of overclocking.

## With all SATA ports populated, (4 HDDs, 1 optical combo drive, and 1 eSATA hooked up,) the IDE port was inactive. A supplemental storage HDD was attached there, and was never seen by the system. It took quite a bit of research and one wild guess to discover that the optical drive occupied all the logical space for IDE, even tho it's attached by SATA, as it runs in IDE mode, thereby overriding the IDE channel's ability to see another drive on the regular old IDE connector. This was very frustrating, and not referred to anywhere in the documentation.

Almost gave only 3 eggs, not sure if I'm being generous with 4.

Not worth saving a few bucks...

Pros: Slot spacing and price.

Cons: Poor positioning of fan, audio, 8-Pin headers. Very limited info in manual as far as the bios settings. Easy overclocking feature struggles with more exotic equipment. The board has heavy issues with voltage drops, and you need to compensate accordingly, but it is still unpredicatable. Even the easy overclocking feature can't keep up with the voltage drooping, which makes it fail. Very difficult to find support for this board.
My board seems to have some issues with dropping SATA connections which gave me a bunch of headaches with array corruption - probably bad solder joints as reseating and a little wiggle seem to wake them back up - but they still randomly died.

Overall Review: I thought I would give this board a try, after reading a couple reviews. Well, when looking for support tips, I found a lot of other folks having issues with this board (I should have read more). I have tried EVGA, Asus and now Asrock as far as X58's go, and Asrock has missed the boat on this board. Evga and Asus both achieved much higher OC's the the Asrock Supercomputer, with no voltage issues. The main problem with the Asrock "easy overclocking" is that you have no idea what setting it has altered and what effect occurs when you alter other setting along with feature. The bios is really a mess unless you are not overclocking, and really this is what most buyers of a $300 mobo are going to do. You really need to be a somewhat advanced OC'er to make this board work and hit the same high clocks that are easy with other manufacturers boards.

Liking my ASRocks

Pros: Slot spacing, tons of room
Ease of OverClocking
Ease of finding drivers on their site
Have my 920 OverClock'd to 3.3 on air and running stable at 3.8 on H2O. Have one of the older Rev as well.
Fair price when compared to other motherboards with same layout.

Cons: None really

Overall Review: This has been the least frustrating OC'ing board I have ever owned. It just works.

Also have a 5970 which I've OC'd to 900/1200, I've run all sorts of Benchmarking and stability test, hardware handles the abuse without issue. Give a good chunk of the credit to the mobo.

ASRocks should start a support forum like EVGA, place to hangout and swap configs

Home they keep cranking out quality boards like the Supercomputer!

Great Board

Pros: Plenty of slots, dual-LAN, runs stable, over-all decent board.

Cons: My biggest con for this board is the inability to connect to external hard drives. I have 2 of these motherboards, the problem is the same on both. I've tried about 7 external hard drives and they basically don't connect, BUT, after trying all of the USB ports, on the 1 board, it will connect to the left front USB (i have the same case on both systems) and on the other board none work except one port on a 7 port hub (including onboard USB). LOL, Atleast i found a port on each that function. I contacted ASRock, and they offered to replace both boards, but i can't go that long without boards, so i'll live with using a specific port for external hard drives. This isn't a problem with Flash drives or Flash media. And i get the feeling that this problem can't be just my boards. Another factor to think about is that i exclusively use Seagate drives (and have for over 10 years). If i run across another brand hard drive, i'll test that out.

Overall Review: Both my systems (work and home) are the same,

ASRock Supercomputer Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W
CORSAIR XMS3 12GB 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 1333
SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB
Seagate Barracuda ST3160215A 160GB (system)
Seagate Barracuda ST31500341AS 1.5TB (data)
Seagate Barracuda ST31500341AS 1.5TB (backup)
Vista Ultimate

I rated this board 4 eggs because i think my problem is based in this board, my Seagates work everywhere else.

On a side note, i've built and troubleshot PCs and a few MACs for just over 15 years.
