dissapointed 2/4/2015 8:14:19 PM

Pros: Looks nice? Easy to navigate bios. It's been fairly stable over the last 2.5 years.
LOTS of USB3.0 ports
Lots of SATA3 ports

Cons: Only 2/6 SATA3 ports are on the intel chipset. Meaning RAID0 or RAID1? It is advertised as "support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, RAID 5, Intel® Rapid Storage and Intel® Smart Response Technology)" but it cannot do a hardware RAID of more than 2 SATA3 drives!!! I only found this out recently when I eventually got around to wanting to RAID 3 drives, I had only done a RAID with 2 drives previously... Turns out the ASMedia SATA ports do not support RAID. Shame on me for not trusting the advertising and doing more research on every component.

I also had to disable the XFast LAN, it was a cool idea, but poorly implemented. It caused issues for me.

Also a key selling feature for me was the Lucid VirtuMVP, which was only ever stable on Windows 7. I upgraded to Windows 8 when it came out (VirtuMVP was not stable...), then Windows 8.1 when it came out, and it was still not stable for 8 when I upgraded to 8.1, and is still not stable to this day. It blue screens if you try to install it, and you are forced to restore your PC.

Overall, it was not worth the pricetag I paid for this. It was over $300 when I bought it, and looking back, I feel that it was no better than if I had spent my money on a $150 mobo.

Overall Review: This is probably irrelevant at this point for anyone who may read it, but I will definitely spend more time researching a mobo in the future; I do not want to get burned again like I was with this purchase, probably won't be buying ASRock again.

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Due to Intel chipset specification, there are Intel 2 x SATA3 and 4 x SATA2 ports
However, they could able to work combined with 6 x HDDs or SSDs drives under RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 configuration.

For more information about RAID configuration, please visit the link below

Bent CPU Socket Pins 3/6/2014 7:06:05 PM

Pros: The motherboard is loaded with features.

Cons: I didn't even remove the motherboard from the box, when I discovered six bent CPU socket pins. The motherboard was still zip tied to the packaging in the box. It looks like the locating tabs on the plastic socket cover bent the pins. Too, bad, other ASRock motherboards I own were shipped intact.

Overall Review: Inspect the motherboard carefully! I see Newegg.com now lists the board as "Not available."

Feature Complete, Not Perfect 12/9/2013 8:12:24 PM

Pros: This board comes with every feature you can imagine, as well as dozens separated controllers for peripherals. I was testing Xen virtualization with passthrough, and this board was great for it.

Cons: I have not been able to reset the BIOS with the switch button or the pin switch in several months. I contacted them and received no reply.

As of today I swapped out the CPU since I bought an even newer (more expensive) ASRock motherboard. I was disappointed to see that two of my ASMedia ports are suddenly no-longer functioning. I confirmed from my OS that one of the two ASMedia controllers disappeared.

Overall Review: I have contacted ASRock about the bios months ago and got no reply. I just sent in another ticket about the broken ports. The board comes with a 3 year "limited warranty". I hope they will honor it.

So far I would say great hardware, terrible support. I have given it 2 eggs because of the support, given the cost of this board and having only owned it for one year I. If they are willing to fix the problem, I will amend my review,

Bloatware Ahoy 12/5/2013 1:25:45 PM

Pros: Excellent Motherboard With Lots of Options

Cons: When installing Drivers CD the auto install option installs bloatware

Overall Review: When you spend this much on a motherboard it should not be bundled with Crapware.

Update for my previous review 9/29/2013 2:45:30 PM

Pros: Nice Board, with lots of bells and whistles

Cons: See below, but there are several

Overall Review: I have been reading around in many of the feedback comments about asrock boards. The intel sockets anyway. I find it funny that there are so many problems being reported about bent or damaged socket pins. Yet, Asrock is so quick to tell everyone about how the boards are checked before they are sold, and that there is no way that they could come that way from Asrock. However, if you read around the web and even on Newegg you will see people that get memory errors when they power up the board. This is usually being caused by damaged socket pins. I even saw one person who had problems with memory errors upon boot up, and then Asrock tells them to check the socket pins and sure enough, bent or damaged pins. Then the people are so surprised because Asrock blames them

To update my problems below. I kept telling Asrock that there were all kinds of problems with my board, and it went from bad to worse. It will not even post now. Just double zeros on dr. debug. It is dead and I am sure it came from the faulty socket in the board.

However, it is my fault. What a joke

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The reason to check mainboard CPU socket pins due to memory controller on the CPU is not fully contact with mainboard which might indicate memory error on Dr. Debug.
The CPU socket on the mainboard has been covered with protection CAP to avoid damage the pins during the shipping and should not be removed unless intend to install a CPU.
In addition, the CPU socket pins on the mainboard are fragile and need to be handling with careful to avoid physical damage and affect the warranty.
As always, we appreciate your purchase and constructive reviews are welcome.

Never written a review, but can't help it this time! 9/3/2013 3:53:21 PM

Pros: This board is abundantly equipped with everything that I could ever want. I spent months waiting on it to become available #1 and #2, drop in price. The price drop never happened and I really wanted it so I bought it. I could not ask for much more, in the way of features, and looks. It is a thing of beauty. I previously had a Sabertooth P67 which has always functioned at a high level so I decided to get a little more out of it. So I put the extreme9 in the closet for while. I got it out this past week and installed it. I will say that I loved the blueooth/wifi adapter, but in the end the wifi does not pick up very well. However, the adapter functions flawlessly, and is a nice addition to such a feature rich board.

Cons: The only thing that was changed in my rig was the mobo. So, regardless of what response is received after this, I just want to make it clear that all other components had been running without issue for at least 1 year.

Right when i turned it on I got 55 in dr debug. So I looked up the code and it said no mem was installed. clearly was not true and I knew the mem was good. So I switched it to A2/B2 with no luck. So i fired up google and found that it was a seemingly widespread problem with the board and that it was usually attributed to a damaged socket or socket pins. I thought great!!! I have a bad board. I pulled the mobo and the cpu and sure enough there were socket pins overlapping each other and some were stretched and bent. Luckily this did not ruin my processor. So i straightened everything as best I could with a 10x jewelers loop and stuck the proccy back in. Sure enough I made it past dr. debug and into windows. I said a thank you to the PC gawds, and went on about my business. However, within about 8 hours of this incident, the PC would no longer boot to windows. It kept getting hung on the splash screen or the bios logo screen. I finally emailed asrock who said that was usually a sata issue, so I unplugged all but one drive and that worked. So I then proceeded to re-plug each drive one by one until i found the one that was causing the problem. However, it was not the drive... It was the sata port. I tried re-plugging the cable to ensure proper connection, and I tried several different cables. No luck. So then I just tried a new port with the same drive and same cable. That worked and I have not had a problem after that. However, I am concerned. I can trouble shoot with the best of them, and I can usually get something to work one way or another. However, I have a $400 board that has already bent socket and misshapen socket pins, and a bad sata port all within the first week. So, I decided to take my concerns up further with Asrock.......

Overall Review: I love the Asrock boards. I also have a 970 Extreme 3, and it has been trouble free. My issue is not with the boards, or that they have trouble. That is all part of building. My issue is that when I do have a problem, it then becomes a hassle. Asus has never been an issue, and I have also had great luck with Biostar.

Now don't get me wrong, the support staff of Asrock is knowledgeable and polite. My problem is that I am essentially getting the impression that it is, you get what you get. Basically, I was told in so many words that there is no way I could have received a board with damaged socket. In my mind that means that I am being blamed for the damage. So, that issue was nipped in the bud right then and there. No more discussion about that, and the tech wants to move straight to the sata port. Nevermind that I bought a board and then had to repair it myself before use. Nevermind that bend and misshapen socket pins could short and/or cause all sorts of problems down the road.
The suggestions about the Sata trouble shooting are that I should try re-plugging it several times to ensure good connection----Check, that has been done. Next, try new/different sata cables to rule out that issue---Check, new cables were tried, plus the original cable is the one that is working now on a different port. Next, Boot in to Windows and hot plug the sata drive into the bad port. Whether that works or not, I don't know. However, I am going to assume that hot plugging it after windows has booted will work, and that the drive will be read. That is not where the problem is though. The issue was that it would not allow windows to load.

Regardless of the outcome, I have seen what i need to see. I would have been fine with all of it, right up until the point where it was told to me that a damaged socket is impossible from Asrock's end. As if, they as a company or anyone else are perfect.

Bad Board - Two Strikes - Avoid 6/10/2013 9:48:06 PM

Pros: Board is feature rich and price is low. Documentation is OK.

Cons: 1) Board won't enter POST. The startup stalls with a cryptic "A2" code. The web is filled with posts concerning the error for various ASROCK boards, including this one. I have always suspected bad boards were the result of other people not knowing how to install. I thought a truly bad board would be rare.
Well, I just installed a replacement ASROCK Z77 board that I recived from NewEgg. It has the exact same issue as the original. Now, I'm guessing there really are quite a number of bad motherboards being produced. I'd certainly avoid this one.
2) Echoing other reviews: ASROCK support is email only. There is no way to talk to anyone.
3) NewEgg is a ONLY a distributor. If you get an RMA OK for original item, the replacement part likely will not be RMA'd if it is bad. The Warranty clock starts with original purchase, not replacement.

Overall Review: For me, 2 strikes is enough. I won't purchase another ASROCK board.
As for NewEgg, I've posted several positive comments about NewEgg. The site is decent and NewEgg can supply almost any item a techie person could want. NewEgg has made it very clear they are only a distributor of what they sell. Keep that in mind when making a purchase. Make certain the manufacturor has a solid track record of support for their products and avoid those that don't.
I know that is just basic, good, buyer behavior. In my case, I chose to believe the positive reviews and discount the negative ones. I wish I had paid more attention to the warnings rather than thinking I'd fall into the "everything is great" group. Lesson learned, I hope.

Great motherboard :) 5/11/2013 10:40:55 AM

Pros: This is my second motherboard from Asrock, and I have to say I am very impressed with it. Very easy to use UEFI, well thought out placement for all the fan connectors, and one of the few motherboards that I can find that has 2 usb 3.0 plugs. The white LED lights from the heatsinks are a nice touch, you can keep them on past the initial boot if you go in the UEFI and turn off the night light mode, and they will stay on.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is that out of the box it will NOT support GTX 660 ti graphic cards. I bought a EVGA gtx 660 ti and put it in and wouldn't boot. Looked on a couple of websites and said that it might require a bios update in order to work. So I did, and now it works.

Overall Review: My next motherboard will probably be another Asrock. My first build I have done was an Asrock and 4 years still running strong it still has no problems with it.
