Pros: Has lots of neat features like Amzon Prime, works with Dish DVR
Cons: Features often do not work. This device isn't stable and requires frequent rebooting. Often the rebooting cycle will lock up and the only way to restore function is to unplug the box.
Overall Review: I wish I saved the box to return this.
Pros: Works with Netflix.
Cons:
I bought this device to work with HBOGO and XFinity Streaming services. The device worked for about 1 1/2 months then those sites upgraded to a new version of Adobe Flash Player that no longer works with any GoogleTV devices. The device does not support a real version of Google Chrome browser so it is impossible to upgrade to new version of Flashplayer.
Also this device is blocked from streaming any major network sites.
Overall Review: I would not recommend purchasing this device or any GoogleTV device due to the limited number of sites it currently supports. ASUS will not accept any returns on this product and provides no support on getting the device working with the sites listed above.
Pros: It has potential, but now is just a paperweight. 3 months and the unit will not even boot up now.
Cons: When the unit was working, the stability of the product was the most frustrating. It would daily need rebooting. It would lose my settings for controlling my satellite receiver on almost a weekly basis. I feel as though ASUS is using defective internal memory in these units.
Overall Review: This product feels like it was rushed to production with little developmental cycle. Google TV already feels like a beta product for the public and this unit has caused me nothing but headaches. I wanted to love it because I do enjoy Android products, but the user experience with this device makes you want to take a sledge hammer to it.
Pros: It does what it claims ... sometimes.
Cons:
I bought this product with two purposes in mind: streaming .iso files (it doesn't) and to bring HBOgo to my tv (which it claims to do).
ASUS has included an abominable remote with this unit. It is so over-sensitive that I have to place it on a heavy book foundation, otherwise the cursor will move off-point when I press enter. This makes signing into HBOgo an exercise in frustration. And sometimes the remote will not recognize @, periods or underscores — all included in my email addy.
On top of that it thinks that several icons, when added to "Favorites" should look like (and appear as) Google Browser icons.
Then there is HBOgo. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't — it just goes to a gray loading screen and sticks there. I had tried the factory reset twice — and still cannot get an HBOgo program to play.
Overall Review: I have two ASUS monitors (24" & 27") and a great ASUS mobo, all to ASUS' credit! This ASUS Cube is an abomination — and I'm not sure whether an update (none seen yet) will help!
Pros:
Menu is nicely put together
Small footprint
Direct Ethernet hook up
Chrome internet browser
Cons:
No Hulu Plus
No internet access to any major networks ie. CBS, ABC etc..
Remote keyboard will type and then not type, hit or miss
Constantly hitting cursor button and audible search on side
Overall Review: Returned for something I can access all my streaming accounts with. I'm sure this will get everything together at some point, just don't want to wait.
Pros:
-Unique design and interface.
-Easy setup up with my Dish satellite receiver.
-Primetime app which learns what I like by me rating movies and tv shows.
-Great file support with built-in movie player that also remembers my network file locations.
Cons:
-Current firmware has a few bugs to work out.
-The unique interface is too big when going from Live TV to Home menu, but Open Launcher app fixed that.
-Remote is not ergonomic and D-pad navigation is clumsy.
Overall Review:
I am using this in my entertainment system with an A/V receiver, Dish DVR, Blu-ray, XBox 360, LG LCD TV. My setup up is everything feeding to the receiver and one HDMI to the TV. I use a single HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV and control the system from one universal remote. This device requires me to now use 2 remotes for my system. I did find a workaround to let me use my universal to control this, but the average user will be frustrated trying to control this or having this try to control other devices.
This is a great little device and most of the cons can be worked out with software updates. I also think they should have correctly labeled IR blaster as IR emitter to avoid confusion and provided a dual IR emitter in the box.
Pros: Once it is updated to Google TV 3 it has a nice enough interface, and it is pretty responsive. I like the HDMI pass-through for the TV with limited HDMI ports, and I can PnP the TV and check something out online in the background. Noiseless is a plus.
Cons: The first unit would shut down randomly when playing video. It didn't matter what type or the source. Since I bought it primarily for streaming this was a major issue. I RMA'd it for another, hoping that it was a one time problem. The new one arrived today, and it seems to have the same problem, only worse. Now it shuts off even when installing from the Google Play Store. I plan to send this one back for the refund.
Overall Review:
I am a fan of Android powered devices, as it has virtually unlimited potential. That potential has been limited only by the hardware abilities. As a 20 year IT professional, I am disappointed in this model.
I would love to see what this could be, could have been if the shut off problem did not occur. With the exception of having a handy remote, my old Droid 3 can do about the same things and do it better.
If Asus can address this issue, and the other design issues mentioned by other reviewers (button location, IR blaster, no side IR for typing on the remote) in a V2.0 of the Cube, then I will take another look at it.
In the meantime, I'll stick with my LG ST-600.
