Easy to work with and is very secure 8/28/2019 8:59:48 AM

Pros: I like the dependability and ease of support. They have many tips that make the product more fun to work with.

Overall Review: I have used WD products for many years and have told many others of my good experience. I will buy more WD products in the future.

Got a get em. 8/26/2019 4:03:41 AM

Pros: Fast Rebuild.
Reliable.
5 Year Warranty.
Peace of Mind.

Cons: A little more Pricey. (But worth it).

Overall Review: Purchased two 12tb Red Pro's to replace two of the five 6tb Red Pro's in my SHR-1 NAS as I needed more capacity. The Original 6tb Red Pro's were purchased in 2015, and have a total of 0 Bad sector's between them.

I was expecting the rebuild time to take approximately 2 days for each new HDD. However, I was delightfully surprised to find it only took approximately 9 hours per 12tb drive.

The performance and longevity of these drives are why I bought them. Once I fully outfit my existing NAS with 12tb units. I'll have 5 spare perfectly capable 6tb units, which I'll slide into a 5 bay expansion unit and migrate to SHR-2 while I'm at it.

I've noticed that the 2 new 12tb drives are running considerably cooler then my 6tb units. By about 3-5 Degree's. I'm not sure if this is a result of new technology, or the fact the other unit's are simply older. Or perhaps I just need to cleanout the enclosure better? Either way it's great.

Great Drives!

Something has changed in this series 5/12/2019 6:53:04 AM

Pros: So far so good. Drives perform very well as I expected with a WD Red drive

Cons: 10TB drives are much louder than previous sizes. I have had several of these over the last few years. The 4TB drives I currently have in my older system are whisper quiet. The 6TB drives I have in my workstation are also dead silent. As in, you can't hear them operate at all in a regular housing. So imagine my surprise when I put the 10TB drives into a new QNAP NAS. These drives aren't really "loud" but you can certainly hear them. But it is the quality of the sound which is so bad. These things sound like someone is inside the NAS munching on rocks when the drives are active. Like, someone who hasn't eaten in days is given a handful of rocks and they go to town on these rocks.

Since this unit is my main media server, it is pretty active all the time. It seriously sounds like something is coming apart in these drives but they work great and there are no errors, etc. I've written well over 30TB across my raid set and nothing has thrown an error so it seems that this is just how these drives operate.

Overall Review: I haven't tried any other 10TB drives yet, but I will because the sound on these is horrid. I am having to move where this sits in my office so I can block the sound better. Hopefully this issue gets resolved because you don't want to work near these drives.

Manufacturer Response:
Hi Braun M.,

We regret hearing about the noise concern with the WD Red Pro NAS Internal Hard Drive and appreciate your time for providing the feedback.

Current drive technology dictates that some noise will occur during normal drive operation. The type and volume of noise are dependent on whether the is drive performing a read/write operation or idle with the heads parked. The environment where the drive is functioning may also influence noise. It is important to recognize which noises indicate trouble or normal drive operation.

We have placed a few helpful link below providing more information for your convenience.

So far Great! *knock on wood) 5/2/2019 6:19:40 AM

Pros: - Fast, quiet, cool - 6 HDDs (4x these WD Red Pros and 2x WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm) + SSD in the back chamber of Fractal Design Node 804 so the space is pretty crammed, and monitoring shows drive temps in low to mid 30s even during a large transfer of data.
- 256MB cache
- so far, no issues (*knock on wood) for 4 of these I got. 4 of these in RAID10 with a budget RAID controller (Startech / Marvell), as I run another set of raid 0 drives on the same server and ran out of onboard SATA ports. 4x 4TB in RAID 10 game me ~7.25TB usable space...I think the budget Marvell RAID controller is limiting performance a tiny bit, but eitherway, through my 1Gbit network I can only do ~120MB/s transfers anyway... local SSD to the RAID10 array transfers anywhere between 350MB/s to 400MB/s depending on what I'm transferring.

Cons: - not the cheapest 4TB 7200rpm on the market? but that's about it... please last a long time and don't give me a reason to come back and add a con here

Overall Review: - I originally got Toshiba N300 4TB 7200rpm drives because they were $109 each at the time (vs $169 each for the WD Red Pro) which are "NAS grade" drives that are supposed to be reliable / dependable like the WD Reds are... but 3 out of 4 of the Toshiba units started getting bad sectors within 2 weeks of service 2 of which had over 400~500 bad sectors by the time I RMA'ed them.I since them got the WD Red Pros, and these have been rock solid for a little over 3 months or so now. Aside from the quality difference, the Toshibas ran pretty loud and clicky - maybe that was a sign from the getgo that those were bad drives.. and the toshiba drives ran a bit warmer too. so in my book, you do get what you pay for with the more expensive WD Reds..
- WD is the most reliable / dependable HDD I've used...

Good Drive, good warranty 4/9/2019 9:25:38 AM

Pros: - Quiet, smooth-running/no vibrations, 5 year warranty
- Standard screw mounts
- Standard SATA connections

Cons: None yet.

Overall Review: I purchased this on Sale, wanting the 5 year warranty. Hard to complain about a drive that hasn't failed yet, but it slipped nicely into my existing SuperMicro hot-swap server, running a dual-parity unRAID system for backups and Plex. Easily replaced my last Seagate 3TB Constellation drive that I was waiting for its death (like the other three before it). Hoping for a quiet, stable 5 years or more!

Pros: -Got for Synology NAS. No issues running well.

Cons: -None

Overall Review: -Newegg betrayed me, the week following this purchase they had a sell making 4tera HDD the same cost! Foiled again.
