Can this work for a small business using quickbooks and accessing quickbooks remotely?

Accepted Answer

Yes and No. You can only access the quickbooks 'file' remotely if you backup that file (You just have to know what the extension of the file, I believe .QBW) to this drive and from your laptop which already has quickbooks application install then Yes, it will be able to open it but 'No' if you try to use any pc or laptop that did not have Quickbooks application installed then it is impossible to launch it remotely since this drive is only made for storage.

For example, you can copy, backup and store any word, excel, pdf documents and family pictures to it and from any pc/laptop anywhere in the world that has Microsoft Office app, Acrobat Reader and pictures viewer app, you certainly can access these files and open it up remotely.

I see a lot of Bad reviews ! Thinking about getting this for Streaming HD Movies on my home network for XBMC. My network is gig speed. Will this work ?

Awesome device for Network Attached Storage and wireless capabilities.  I would not recommend using it for Streaming HD.

I ended up using a Synology DS-214 PLAY for ALL THINGS STREAMING, especially the HD side with their on-board HW transcoding solution

It uses the green drives and not sure of the exact model currently in the unit. The newer generation use the red drives.

I've made stored backups of all my systems on this device. 
or do you mean a backup of what you store in the device itself?
If that's the case i am not sure, I dont think so. It does however have the option to split your drive in half and store x2. So if one drive fails , a copy is stored in the other. Something to do with RAID settings. I myself did not opt for this and am currently using both drives as storage. No problems yet .

I have several HDD ion different systems. As the family grows and  move out, I'm finding that they want to share  a home network. Currently, I have a iOmega 1TB, desktop w/ 1 TB and a ton of laptops and I want to have a centralize location to drive from. Will this 8TB suffice my needs?

Hello Samuel, yes I would think so. Also it depends on how you config the drive, if you set it with raid-0 which means mirror both drives then it cuts down to 4TB since I wanted it to backup each other. Even 4TB is plenty enough space for me, thinking this way...1 dvd contents 5GB and 1TB = 1000GB. The unit is working excellent as WB said, however transfer a big file from pc to it while download another file from the internet (both via wireless) it sometimes choked and/or slow to a point it is no longer response then I have to reboot other than that it works flawless including streaming movies from it via DLNA feature.

I do not think it can be a print server. It's a network storage with capabilty to access from internet and stream videos as DLNA.

Nope, you can add another HDD to this through the USB, but the HDD only connects through RJ-45.
