I don't have the cable to connect monitor to computer.  What do I need?

For this monitor to work properly,  your video card must support the ultra wide resolution. You can connect it with an HDMI cable or a DVI-D cable if supported by your video card.  A regular DVI cable will not work, it must be DVI-D.

There is a "joystick" style button just under the bottom center of the monitor. 
As you are facing it, push "up" vertically on the button.
Once it is on, Left, Right, Forward, and Back will move you through the on-screen menus.

Hello,

I want to ask if this is Vesa Mounting capable?
Cant seem to find anything on it that sais so.

I want to get three to go with this mounting system.

Page 19 of the owner's manual indicates that it is Vesa capable, but also says you must buy a mounting bracket separately.  I suggest you download and read the manual to see if it will meet your needs. The manual is available on the LG site.  Hope this helps.

What is the height of this item from base to top? I have a desk with hutch and am limited on height.

Can I use this monitor for console gaming as well?

If you mean gaming on a computer, obviously, yes.  If you mean from a console like Xbox, I don't see why not.  It takes an HDMI input, so it should work.

I have an MSI GTX 970 4gb and am debating on ordering this monitor, would it be compatible with the display or would I get black bars on the sides? Cheers

Of course it depends on the application (whether it is native 2560x1080 or modified to do so), but I believe you wouldn't have any problems running quite a few games at that resolution.  Simply put- in certain circumstances you would NOT have black bars if you didn't want them.  However, pairing this monitor with an NVIDIA GPU would nullify one of this monitor's most redeeming features (adaptive sync/freesync).  It is only compatible with AMD GPUs.

Why did you choose this when you can get a 27" 1440p for nearly the same price? I know this is bigger but why not have the extra couple hundred pixels in the vertical direction?

I wanted the higher horizontal to vertical ratio. the 27 " has a physically taller but not as wide screen compared to this one with more vertical and horizontal pixels than typical. This one is a physically wider screen comparable in physical height to a 24" monitor but with the width of comparable to a 30". I didn't want a large monitor. I wanted a wide one for when I wanted to have to things open side by side and to watch full resolution unscaled video on 21:9 movies. the 27" you are talking about is 16:9 ratio. this 21:9 is about 1/3 again as wide.

Is this monitor good for hardcore gaming?

Depends by what you mean hardcore? If you are a professional ( EG making literal money from playing games ) you want a 144hz monitor. If you want a monitor that will immerse you in the game world, then this is a great monitor. It caps at 60hz at 2560x1080 though. It's an IPS over a TN panel so the colors are excellent. It being ultrawide helps with productivity, movie, tv, and gaming. A few games here and there dont support it, and finding a background wallpaper can be a pain sometimes depending on what you are into.

Would i recommend it? Highly. This is easily one of the best gaming monitors ive ever used. And i replaced a 144hz TN panel with it.

Yes, but most games do not support the resolution so you will get black bars on the sides.
