Canceled my order

Pros: Seemed like a good deal at first.

Cons: After reading the reviews I noticed one from December 2018 that stated that the switch did not have separate LEDs for the link speed as pictured and described on the Specifications page. The manufacturer acknowledged this hardware change and said they would have their ecommerce team check into to. So here we are nearly ten months later and Newegg is still showing a picture of a switch with an LED for 1000Mbps and one fopr 10/100. You can see the current version of the switch pictured on the manufacturer's web site. It has only a single, tiny LED. I don't want that.

Overall Review: I should have known it was bad as soon as I saw the word "Green".

Simple, inexpensive, plenty of ports, just what I needed

Overall Review: This is just what I needed. The case is made of metal and feels solidly constructed, fanless design mean there’s absolutely no noise, 8 1-Gb ports gives me plenty for what I need, and the low price that I got it for made the entire package a super deal for me. Love it and I recommended.

They work great so far, with no timeouts such as may have been caused by my old switches

Pros: Every Saturday I run full backups of 3 drives and a subvolume over 7 hours, beginning with a 4-hour backup-and-compare of a MacBook Pro over my LAN. For a period of 4 weeks earlier this summer, the Mac Pro "backup server" computer was getting a "network connection timeout" after about 2 hours of backup. With this pair of Gbps switches replacing my old Netgear Gbps switches, the LAN backup-and-compare runs to completion.

Cons: The LEDs on these switches are smaller than the LEDs on the Netgear switches, so it's more difficult to see them blinking from across my bedroom to know whether the LAN part of the backup is running. Fortunately I also have a Motorola MoCA adapter with larger LEDs in the bedroom, so I can see those blinking instead.

Overall Review: These were a temporary bargain I snapped up. NewEgg should make that bargain permanent, because Gbps switches are being obsoleted by 5Gbps and 10Gbps switches for LANs that are through-cabled for those speeds—which my LAN is not because it has a MoCA segment.

I have met my new switch

Pros: -Nice sturdy metal case. I had been using cheaper low cost switches which worked fine but felt like they were flimsy. This just has a nice solid feel to it.
-Individual port LEDs that display the varying port speeds.
-Wall mount cut outs.
-Gigabit. Nice and fast with 4 PCs transferring data. I had seen some slowdowns with cheaper switches but this performs great.
-Great price/value
-Small footprint for 8 ports

Cons: I really cannot think of one. It just works.

Overall Review: I received this as a review unit and I was glad to get something that I would use full time. This thing does the job.

I have put this in as my full time switch. It regularly has 4 PCs connected full time to a wireless router. I am getting great transfer speeds of about 120 MB/sec. Each port having its own informative indicators is a nice touch. The ports are forward facing so keep this in mind per your application. I have it wall mounted so the design is fine.

UPDATE: 7/17/2019
After 6 years of flawless and constant service this unit is starting to act odd. At first I thought it was just cable dropping out but wifi was working. Turns out only the 6 devices on this switch were dropping. A power cycle brings everything back quick enough but this has happened half a dozen times in the last month or two. Either way, I will probably replace it soon enough.

If you need to expand your wired network I think this is perfect. With the metal case this thing is as sturdy and pretty as a switch is going to get in my opinion. I even like the texture of the paint? Odd but true. You can find cheaper 8 port gigabit switches but I would suggest spending the extra $10 and get this.

Missing an E will cost you!

Pros: It is a gigabit 8 port switch.

Cons: Missing the letter E gets you a dumb switch. I wanted the smart switch TL-SG108E.
This switch does not allow monitoring. The smart switch does allow monitoring.

Overall Review: I would not recommend this switch.
I wish that TP-Link would use entirely different part numbers instead of just adding a letter to avoid confusion so people do not order the wrong version. Now I am stuck with 3 dumb switches or I have to take a 33% loss to return them.

Manufacturer Response:
Hi,

Thank you for your review. The TL-SG108 is designed to provide simple, convenient unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet expansion for your network. Please bear in mind the TL-SG108 is not advertised as a managed switch, and should not be used as such. We understand that different networking scenarios require different equipment, which is why we offer a variety of gigabit network switches, with various features, in order to meet the needs of our customers. For intelligent management features we would instead suggest considering the model you've mentioned; the TL-SG108E: https://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-5711_TL-SG108E.html

If you're unsure whether a product is right for your networking needs, please feel free to email USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly help answer any questions you might have.

Great quality product! I'd definitely recommend it!

Pros: -Plug & Play. No configuration needed as it is an unmanaged switch
-Sturdy metal case
-Very easy to install

Cons: -None really for me. Some people don't like the power and ports being on opposite sides, but with a little cable management it works fine.

Overall Review: -I own several TP-Link products and have had zero issues. They are well built and a great bang for your buck! I decided to take all of my streaming media devices / TVs off of wireless and go wired. I am very very happy with this switch as it now allows me to get full giga speed over my network and i'm also able to get the full speed of my internet to all my devices as well. With my old wireless router I could only achieve around 90mbps downstream. With this new switch connected to my cable modem (which has a built in router) I am getting 150mbps+ which is what i'm paying for.

New hardware revision is different from advertized product

Pros: Seems to be a functional 8-port gigabit switch.

Cons: I purchased this product specifically because the pictures show that it has indicator LEDs that show when a link is detected as a gigabit connection, and the specifications state that it has "Link, Speed and activity indicators per port built into each RJ-45 port." I specifically chose the product for that feature. The product that was delivered has the correct model number, but is different from the pictured product and does not have speed-indicator LEDs. Evidently, Newegg is shipping an updated hardware revision that has only tiny green pinhole LEDs that show activity, but do not indicate the link speed. The LEDs are now a bit off to the side of the port, so a casual glance does not reveal which of the two ports a light is close to is active, if you can even see the light at all. Buyer beware: you may not receive the same model that is pictured on the product page.

I realize TP-Link may have saved $0.03 of manufacturing costs with this new hardware revision, but it diminishes the functionality of the product (and because they recycled the model number, it will result in increased returns). Why are all the manufacturers moving in this direction?

Manufacturer Response:
Michael,

Thank you for letting us know about the image mix up on New Egg. We will let our Ecom team know to update the images to the new V4 design. You are correct the V3 had two lights to indicate link speed, however because this is determined by the ports and cable being used it is not really needed. The best way to tell your link speed is by going into your adapters and viewing the status. Your individual link speed will be displayed here.

Best Regards

Great little switch

Pros: Solid and dependable

Cons: None

Overall Review: I've been using my current one for just over 4 years and am just looking to replace it as one of the ports have become disabled and another has occasional issues. In all of the 4 years the switch has been hanging on my wall in my office steady and reliable.
