Don't Buy, Period 12/5/2011 1:17:01 PM

Pros: It's cheap and has the decent specs you'd expect.

Cons: MSI Customer Support is second to none is horribleness. Try getting in contact with anyone, I dare you. Try email (which goes unanswered), calling, (which redirects you to one of three numbers), or even getting someone on the line once you have the right number! I get put on hold so many times that I get sent to voicemail. Voice..mail.. and I've tried it many times during different days, always the same. This is just hopeless. especially since the little sticker on the bottom of the netbook that says "warranty void if broken" is resting on top of a plate that moves up and down whenever you set it somewhere, tearing a crack in it the first time you put it on your lap. My charging port became broken after about 4 months of usage and I can't do anything about it.

Great for what it is 1/23/2010 12:34:43 AM

Pros: -Great for travel... will play movies various video types pretty well.
-Hard Drive is big for a laptop let alone a netbook.
-Very Pretty... Sleek... Kinda makes my mouth water when I look at it on my desk.
-Will play old school games and emulators great.
-Overall a good secondary or travel computer. It won't win any races with normal computers... even basic ones... but It is one of the fastest netbooks on the market

-I enjoy it even if it won't do much heavy gaming and my kind of multitasking (15 windows or more open at once)

-Runs incredibly fast on normal windows tasks. Starts up in 30 seconds or so... opens right ckick instantly, etc. -Copying takes less than a minute per GB (even on flash drives) versus my old Dualcore HP Pavillion Desktop which takes about 2-3 min per GB even on an external hard drive.

Cons: -Skips on video quite a bit... especially HD (I ordered that Broadcom HD Decoder to try to solve that problem)

-The processor just isn't strong enough... even though it is an AMD. It seems to constantly run in the red zone 70-100% if you are doing anything other than surfing basic html and word processing. Just having iTunes open (not minimized) makes it run at 54-60%

This is about the best you are going to do right now though as far as netbooks go. I just could not wait until MSI put out the U230 with the Dualcore NEO to get a netbook so it's my loss. But if you can... I advise that you do. It will be much better. The windows experience index for this computer says the weakest link is the graphics card... but it is definitely the processor.

Overall Review: Contrary to what others have said around the net... you definitely could not run something like Half Life 2 or WOW on this. At least not stock. I can barely get mine to run Halo 1 and that's with the settings turned way down at 1024X768 in gaming mode.

Oh and beware of old 640X480 and 800X600 games... anything smaller than 1320X768 won't fill up the screen completely. so you'll be playing in a tiny box in the center of the screen that's 5x6" or something like that.

Maybe it would be better with some mods? I'm going to check out the MSI Forums @ Insanely Wind if they ever come back online.

Also... I see no point in upgrading the ram on this... my ram usage never goes higher than 54% even if I am locking up the processor at 100% and have 5 things open at once on the desktop while copying files and surfing the web

Mediocre 1/21/2010 2:28:26 PM

Pros: Nice big keyboard, webcam works well over skype.

Cons: I have a problem with the backlight in the lower left corner of the screen. It's very bright in a 1" spot and is very distracting on darker scenes. on light scenes it's not noticeable. This is our 2nd unit as the first one had the same problem as well as a wifi that barely functioned.

Overall Review: I didn't expect much from this netbook, I was just wanting something that had a larger screen and could play webkinz for my daughter. I pretty much got what I asked for. Other than the defect in the screen which really irks me. This unit has trouble playing hulu at any res. It does seem speedy quick just moving around win7 though. Which is odd but overall I'd give it a C for a grade being that it is pretty average all round.

Netbook that Packs a Punch 1/19/2010 6:04:26 PM

Pros: Windows 7, MSI Eco Modes, Big HD, Bright Display, Big Keyboard, ~5 hours of batter life in Turbo Batter mode. It can also run WoW (8-12 fps in Ironforge, 3-4 in Dalaran at lowest graphics settings)... definitely not going to make it in raids and probably not in heroics, but fine if you're leveling, doing dailies, or checking mail.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: My main laptop is an MSI Gaming Laptop, but as a student the battery life was just too short to take to class. This netbook is unbeatable for the price and performance. MSI makes a nice computer.

Impressive for a "netbook" 1/18/2010 10:02:08 AM

Pros: Windows 7 Home Premium (no need to upgrade)
Faster than expected
Light
Great video and graphics.
2 Gb of RAM
Wireless -n

Cons: Keyboard takes some getting used to.
Function keystrokes replace physical controls like volume and connections, not intuitive.

Overall Review: Great netbook/laptop for the price. Very impressed and much happier than I would've been with the Atom models I tried

Pros: the mobility is BY FAR the best feature. I love the shortcut keys too!

Cons: doesnt include a CD-Rom, but it's no biggie...it's a netbook, not a notebook. I just thought it was funny that a CD was included with all the drivers etc, but you can't use it unless you have an external.

Know what you're talking about, please... 1/13/2010 4:17:19 PM

Pros: Decently fast for a Netbook. Does what i wanted to do with it: web surfing, RDC, basic document editing, basic sysadmin stuff. Also has a much nicer, higher resolution screen than the old 7, 9 and 10" netbooks i've used in the past.

Cons: Some people think it should be i7 fast.

Overall Review: This is my 5th Netbook. Every 6-12 months, i can't seem to keep myself from upgrading to the latest and greatest. All my past netbooks have been EEEs, and i was a little worried about changing brands, but the new EEEs don't provide easy access to the HDD or PCIE slots anymore. Turns out my apprehension was unwarranted, as this is a wonderful little netbook.

Just to be clear here: this NETBOOK has an AMD Athlon Neo single core chip at 1.6GHz, and an ATI Mobile Radeon 1270 video chip. NOT an Atom with ION graphics. Also, whatever CPU/GPU it has, a netbook is NOT intended to be used as a gaming platform, WoW or not.
