It has one Sata 3 connection for a  2.5" drive and  one NVME M.2. connection. Mine are both occupied with 1TB drives each respectively.

2.20 is the base GHz of the processor, but I assume it goes higher in the "turbo" mode that most modern laptops have. How many GHZ does it go to in "turbo"?

It turbo boosts automatically up to 4.1GHz, a quick google search of “i7 8750h” tells you that.

how is the SSD setup ? is it on the motherboad?

All this info is on YouTube. The Ram and HDD bay are easy access panels, but exchanging the ssd stick requires that you remove a bunch of screws to take off the entire underside. The ssd is m.2 nvme stick, so yes, you can replace it.

max ram is (2) 16gb SODIMM'S AT 2666 mHZ. So, 32gb is MAX.

I'm interested in this product, but can I ask why it was returned and what was fixed?? What would the warranty become?? Do I need to buy a warranty just in case to avoid the problem?

Unfortunately we do not know why it was returned or what was fixed. Usually the refurbisher does not provide that information to Newegg. Also depending on the computer, there is usually more than 1 in stock. So it's really hard to keep track of what's been done. There is a 90 days warranty and you do have an option to purchase a SquareTrade Recertified Gaming Laptop Protection Plan for up to 2 years.
