BAd SSD from get go

Pros: Nice enough looking, when it worked it was great

Cons: This thing had a BAD ssd from the get-go. We worked with Lenovo Customer service a few times, they re-imaged the machine. Kept insisting it was software - I personally reinstalled windows a few months later. - kept having problmes with it - Finally today I picked it up from the Microsoft store because I couldnt get it to boot, at all... they did a clean install of win 10. I asked about the SSD - ' they said "what ssd?" which mean s its fried. Won't be pruchasing any more lenovos for a while - not just the product, but the indifference to do anythign about it.

Laptop has some big issues

Pros: I love the look of this, and it's pretty fast. I'm a big fan of the high resolution screen too. Yes, there are still some issues with Windows handling the high res, which does suck, but I still prefer the high res. Also the finger print issue that some have had is not much of an issue for me.

Cons: There are a lot of cons really.
First, there's something screwy going on with the keyboard... it's been happening since I got the thing. For some reason when i'm typing, it'll do really strange things like it'll change the alignment of the text, or it'll paste the last 3-6 words I type (even though I didn't copy them). Sometimes it'll open a windows app too. I've verified that i'm not accidentally hitting anything either. It's just messed up. And recently I've also been having problems with the mouse. There are issued with the USB inputs (which I'll get to in a minute) so sometimes I have to use the built in mouse pad, which I hate doing. On this laptop, there are occasionally issues where, if I click on something to move it, like a desktop icon, or a browser scroll bar, if I click down, I am then unable to move the mouse up or down. It will only respond to left and right movement.

The issue with the USB ports is, both of my USB 3.0 ports act up regularly. If I plug in an external HD, the computer goes back and forth from thinking it's plugged plugged in, and not plugged in. Sometimes it's so bad that it'll just to back and forth every second. It's the same wtih both of my 3.0 outlets, but the 2.0 is fine.

Regarding the design of the laptop, i hate that they built this thing so that you MUST use 2 hands to adjust the volume. You need to use the function key to adjust the volume, which means you can't do it with one hand. It might not seem like much of a hassle, but it is for me. Especially when I'm watching movies and i'm stretching to reach the volume.

I've also had the same issue that others have noted where the mouse pad seems a bit loose. It doesn't seem to affect the functionality, but it's louder than it should be, and its' annoying. It makes it feel cheap and poorly made.

Update: I had the same issue that another user reported here. The hinge broke. It was obvious that it was too tight and it started applying pressure to the plastic that houses the hinge, but it got worse and worse, and eventually it broke through the case, and now my laptop is in 2 pieces. What a piece of junk. I'll never trust lenovo with my money again.

Overall Review: While this was under warranty: They've already told me I'm going to need to do the 1 key recovery thing to restore it back to factory default, and then, since they told me they don't actually think that'll fix any of my problems, I've got to send it in. Such a freaking hassle.

A few months after my warranty expired: The hinge broke and clearly lenovo won't do anything to help, but fortunately i might have a shot to claim the extended warranty through my credit card company.

Good specs for price, driver and screen lamp problems

Pros: For the price, very good specs, snappy little beast of a machine for light gaming and media. Screen really is pretty even if I did have to turn the resolution down to see things. Excellent keyboard, thoughtful positioning of various ports. Lightweight for its size. Runs quiet and cool.

Cons: Getting this laptop to run smoothly took some doing. The video drivers for both the integrated and the discrete graphics required updates from their respective manufacturer's websites (not Lenovo) in order to configure correctly. The screen is too small for 4K to matter; I ended up turning the resolution down to 1080p so I could read unscalable text in various applications and websites.

This in itself would not be a problem (I only purchased the 4K model because I didn't want to pay extra for the touchscreen model) except now, less than 2 months into owning the laptop, one of the multiple backlights in the LCD has stopped working, leaving an annoying "theater lighting" effect along the bottom of the screen. This will require either a screen or lamp replacement, and I suspect Lenovo will not be willing to do this unless I pay for it.

Overall Review: I will contact Lenovo's tech support when they are open and see if they are willing to send me a new screen or lamp that I can install myself. I don't want to ship the entire computer to them just to get a lamp fixed. If they're unwilling to work with me, I'll change my 3-egg to a 2-egg. If they are willing to work with me, I'll bump it to a 4. I really do like the laptop, but the amount of minor grief it's given me since I first purchased it has made me go from feeling like I got a good deal to feeling like I got what I paid for.

Decent Laptop

Pros: Not broken after ~10 months
Really fast
Runs Debian alright

Cons: WiFi module bug using Linux drivers causes frequent loss of association with AP.
3D accelerated graphics setup for Linux is tricky.
Outermost ridges on back of machine near the speakers WILL break.
Screen is really fragile.

Worse laptop & experience ever

Pros: Unless you enjoy having your info shared by online hackers via superfish.

Pro is newegg has excellent customer service. They are simply the best

Cons: You get what you pay for...

Screen locked at 48hz
There is no gaming smooth at 4k so the uhd is useless
Yellows are awful looking

Those facts alone are enough to stay away.
However my laptop had superfish on it.
Newegg was kind enough to tell me via email.
My credit card info was hacked due to this.
I contacted Lenovo about this wanting to return my laptop. Took forever to get back to me then Craig Swenson was rude and beyond unhelpful. Basically said my laptop wasn't infected when it clearly was. He has not responded to me since

Beautiful laptop with problems

Pros: Beautiful screen, keyboard, case. Good looking laptop all around. Really high specs, especially for the price. Modern games look and run great.

Cons: Other people have mentioned the video problems, which I am dealing with too. You'd think all the basic performance issues would be ironed out before they shipped these out. Having bad performance in a web browser, especially Chrome, was unexpected.

I also noticed a very short battery life. The battery doesn't even last for two hours doing web browsing.

Update your Nvidia drivers and set resolution to 1080p

Pros: Very capable and snappy laptop once you get all the settings sorted out. Beautiful screen. Keyboard is pleasant to type on and keys have good weight/bounce. Numpad does not get in the way. Intuitive placement of pgup/dn/home/end keys. I like the red illumination. Great sound for a laptop. Plays most modern games at reasonable quality/framerates. Slick-looking.

Cons: Nonfunctional NVidia drivers out of the box. There is a CPU bottleneck that causes everyday applications that do not use hardware rendering--for example, any Internet browser, even Chrome--to lag and clip terribly when scrolling. The screen is relatively small for a 4K display and as such many buttons are tiny in applications and web pages that don't scale them. Solution: set the default resolution to 1080p and leave it. Use 4K for gaming only, where the GPU will be doing all the work. The screen displays 1080p perfectly well with no fuzziness or pixelation, all buttons and text, scaled or not, are a usable size, and you won't miss the extra space. Save the high-res for games.

Overall Review: Be aware that you absolutely will have to update your video drivers, or the discrete video will not be engaged for games or anything else. Once you have updated the drivers, be sure to go into the NVidia control panel and under Management, set the global settings to always use high-performance. This will NOT cause the system to use the NVidia care exclusively, but it will enable it for games and anything else that calls for 3D rendering (Integrated graphics will still do all the lightweight stuff). Once you have the video drivers updated, the global video settings configured and, your default resolution set to 1080p, you should be golden.

Nice screen and Hardware. Sub-par chassis.

Pros: Very capable hardware. The extra ram gives peace of mind. The processor and video card work great. Third party software has caught up to the 4k screen over time.

Cons: After 9-months the hinge/plastic screen bezel is having problems. I first notices a bit of light-bleed, which I pinned down to the plastic bezel/etc. flexing away from the hinge. It's as if the hinge is too tight for for however the screen is attached to the hinge. Now the plastic bezel catches against the body when opening and I have to use an old plastic gift card to shimmy the screen open. Not acceptable.
