How's the fan noise at idle (browsing, note taking, etc.) on this laptop? Does it spin at all? I kinda care because I may take it to classes if I ever bought it.

As long as the Fan Tweak is set to Quiet in the Gigabyte Smart Manager, this laptop is almost silent while performing basic tasks (Web Browsing, Note Taking, PDF reading, etc.). The fans are always on, but unless you put your ear up to the vents, I doubt you will be able to hear them.

Under heavy load, it will get fairly loud like anything else this compact and powerful. But really, nothing too obnoxious, more of a whoosh than a hairdryer like sound. Overall very satisfied with the cooling setup in this unit.

Is the 1060 on this model the 3GB or 6GB version?

for the ram, is it 16GBx1 or 8GBx2?

It is one 16GB chip. Had no problems adding another 16GB chip for 32GB total.

How many actual PCIE slots are included on this model?

Assuming you mean m.2 pci-e storage, there is only one slot total.

FYI, the previous versions with the 965m or 970m had two m.2 slots if storage and battery life are more important to you than gpu power. The 1060 on this version required a more complex power delivery setup which took up the space used for the extra slot on the older models.
