Ran very well untill it stopped booting after 2 months 7/26/2017 7:16:58 PM

Pros: Could run a AAA title like battlefield 1 on ultra for a 1 hour or more
Screen is very nice and colorful
will last long for maybe 5 hours or more on Intel graphics
Could do VR well

Cons: only 500gb of space and sdd is not really that good
mouse pad is pretty bad
Battery cant be removed

Overall Review: I took it to a pc repair shop that told the motherboard seem to be the problem, and that repair was likely not going to happen, so now warranty! hopefully that works. Honesty if it didn't stop working after 2 months it would be 5. the problem is that i press the power button and nothing happens but a 2 lights blink and nothing more, no fan just black screen

Great compact gaming laptop 7/25/2017 11:54:31 AM

Pros: - Very good battery life, getting somewhere between 6 and 8 hour depending on usage. I did not try gamin on battery yet though, cannot comment on this. (At first I only got around 2 hours of battery life, an update of the intel graphics driver fixed that
- Screen is nice and bright, matte and not glossy
- Gaming performance is really good at 1080p and even 1440p depending on the game, I am replacing a desktop gamin PC with a 980TI with this machine and I"d say it has about 90% the performance of that machine which is sufficient for my gamin needs
- Very compact for a gaming laptop, my previous laptop was a Thinkpad T460s which is very light and compact, the aero is a little bit bigger/thicker but definitely not as much as being uncomfortable to carry around all the time

Cons: - Fan noise when gaming, this is to be expected, I have no real comparison to another gaming laptop, but your definitely better of using headphones while gaming
- No thunderbolt, there is a USB C port on the laptop, however it does not have thunderbolt support, would"ve been nice to have

Overall Review: The cons mentioned are either trades of a gaming laptop or as in the part of no thunderbolt reflected in price for the machine which in my opinion is very much aligned with what you are getting for your money. For me this machine replaces a gaming desktop with a 980TI and a Thinkpad T460s for work and it does both of those very well... would definitely recommend this machine.

Excellent gaming laptop, nearly excellent machine for a developer 4/22/2017 4:30:19 PM

Pros: - Bang for the buck
- Excellent quality
- Quiet
- Small size
- Long battery life
- Does not burn my thighs, while some other 14" laptops did

Cons: From a developer perspective:
- The extra macro key in top left corner is a disaster for all vi users, who hit Esc very often. Otherwise keyboard has a standard laptop keyboard so switch from another 14" laptop (HP EliteBook) is a breeze,
- Keys are "too stubborn" a bit - my hands hurt. Perhaps this is first few days only,
- Touchpad is decent but if you are looking for a dev machine, please find one with a recessed touchpad and physical tactile keys - why do manufacturers throw away perfect design that works?
- No network socket in the machine - my 14" HP EliteBook has one, so small size should not be the excuse. This requirement is BTW important even for gamers. (And of course there is a dongle included but after you plug it in it is more desktop than laptop)

Overall Review: - I would recommend this to other gamers and developers
- Lots of vid RAM for CUDA!

Sleek Gamer 4/20/2017 9:49:24 AM

Pros: Professional looking "sleeper" aesthetic. I wish more laptops were one this.

Cons: Some bloatware

Overall Review: This machine performs very well. Super snappy with us SSD. If doesn't stand out as a gamer, which is great if you're going from work to play in the same machine.

Better than the Phantom Pro! 4/19/2017 3:54:27 PM

Pros: -Great build quality
-Not a lot of bloatware
-Performs great in games and benchmarks
-Keyboard has nice assuring click to keys with good travel
-Great battery life
-Trackpad is great to use
-Nice compact power brick with USB power port is a great feature

Cons: -Fans make a high pitched whine when ramped up. Not horrible but will take getting used to.
-"emptyproject11" application is a CPU hog at times, but is necessary to prevent micro stutter due to optimus.
-I wish it came with a NVME drive instead of SATA
-No thunderbolt (for those who care)

Overall Review: After owning and returning the MSI GS43vr Phantom Pro due to micro stutter, I decided to step up to the Aero. I couldn't be happier! The build on the Aero puts the MSI to shame. The pictures don't do it justice, it is aluminum all over(Top, keyboard deck, and bottom) but pleasingly smooth to the touch like a high quality plastic. (Unlike the rough finish of the Razer Blade.)

I was concerned that this laptop would micro stutter like the MSI did but to my surprise, it did not. This is because Gigabyte runs an application in the background called "EmptyProject11" that keeps the laptop operating on the 1060 at all times. It can use 20% cpu at times but for the most part it uses little to no resources. I confirmed this was solving the micro stutter issue when i killed the application and noticed stuttering just like I experienced on the Phantom Pro. Battery life does suffer because of it, but with a 94whr battery, it still outlasts most other gaming laptops that use optimus.

The MSI benchmarked slightly better in Firestrike and Timespy, but in real world gaming, they perform the same.

I do prefer the aesthetics of the Aero (in black) because I use it for work as well and I feel much better walking away from it than I did the MSI because it doesn't have the "gamer" look. Most people wouldn't give this thing a second look and that is important to me. I also like the white backlighting on the keyboard as the red on the MSI was a little harder to make out at times.

Overall, I am happy I paid a little extra and got this laptop. Thunderbolt should be included at this price point but I can live without it. I would recommend this to any professional that needs a powerful machine in a small form-factor, likes to game, but also needs to fly under the radar.

Great Product 3/8/2017 6:16:05 AM

Pros: Battery life tested at 9 hours idle, with light use 5-7 hours.
Powerful machine
Very mobile
Sturdy design (drop on wooden floor from ~3ft resulted only in very minor cosmetic damage to USB port)

Cons: Loud when fans are running (gaming or processor intensive activity)
In order to get battery life as advertised, I needed to use Throttlestop set to minimum multiplier.

Overall Review: I use this laptop less for gaming and more for image editing / work.

Great value for a thin and light gaming laptop 2/7/2017 3:24:45 PM

Pros: - GTX 1060 performs really well
- Great keyboard
- Trackpad clicks, rather than having separate buttons (I come from a Macbook, so this was a plus for me)
- 1440p matte screen looks great in games
- Super light weight and thin for a gaming laptop

Cons: - Gets fairly warm when gaming (can't really help it with this size and power though). Not painful, but definitely noticeable on your lap.
- Very loud fans when gaming (same as above, stops within a few seconds of exiting a game though)
- Windows doesn't scale UI too well, so lots of UI elements are either tiny or blurry on the 1440p screen.
- USB ports are kind of shallow, so my mouse dongle and other connectors stick out more than I'd like.
- Comes loaded up with a bit of bloatware, but it uninstalled easily enough.

Overall Review: I looked at this, the Razer Blade, and the MSI GS40, but this one seemed to have the fewest compromises. I've been using it for about a month while traveling (or on days where traffic dictates I should stay at work for another hour), and I've been really happy with it so far.
