does this come with the stylus?

No and the screen does not detach. If you want the stylus you probably also want the surface pro or surface book.

Does it have a backlit keyboard?

Yes - three different light levels. Only the key labels are lit, not the area surrounding the keys.

Is this 1st generation surface laptop or the surface laptop 2? Thanks.

Not sure. I think g is the first generation

Is it new/ refurbished?

Hello Monica Andrew, Thank you for contacting us in regards to your question. It is new. Thank you and have a nice day! Newegg Support
