Why is this item showing what appears to be a VGA cable coming out of the back?

Although It looks like a VGA cable it is a proprietary connection cable to control between the sub and the remote speakers.

When this item is said to be refurbished, it means that this system was broken at one point and was fixed to become fully capable again? If so, does it still come with the same warranty as the regular one.
