Is the connection type from drive to PC USB?

Accepted Answer

No, this is an internal DVD/CD ROM Burner using SATA connections located inside of the computer. This is used to replace a laptop's built in DVD/CD ROM drive. This is not for use outside of a computer using USB.

will this fit in a Dell laptop?   (latitude 6410 st DS7H1M1 )

Like a glove, open old cd player, power off, open laptop bottom cover, one screw holds the old cd player in, remove that screw, pull out on the open cd player, it will come out, notice you have to change over the plastic front from the old one to tbe new one to get it to fit right, it had plastic tabs you had to release, use the old one instead of the new one to look/fit right. Then gently slide it into the computer till you can that screw back in.  Replace computer bottom and screws. Repower computer and it will be ready to go since it is plug and play, finds its own drivers

WHat is the item number for the cables for this unit? It isn't a normal SATA cable

I have never seen SATA cables for slimline optical drives sold as consumer items. These drives are intended to be mounted directly into a laptop computer in which the connector is mounted in the drive bay. All you're likely to find here are enclosures which have slim SATA to USB bridge boards inside.

They do exist as OEM's use them; e.g. the low profile Dell Optiplex drives uses such a cable to connect the optical drive to the system board but the cost of buyng something like that as a replacement part would probably be prohibitive.

If I buy this for a mini itx build, what adapter would I need for it to fit in a desktop?

Some very compact mITX cases already have the correct 12.7mm HT opening, which is what I bought this optical drive for.

5 1/8 "W x 1/4"  H.    Looks like a standard sliding tray unit used in older laptops.

My Drive is DS-8A8SH, will this drive work in my Lenovo 4330 notebook?

Yes, it will work with no issue. As long as your current drive has the sata connection on the back, its plug and play. Just switch the front plastic bezel from your old drive onto the new one and you are good to go.

It should.  You may have to move the plastic bezel from your current drive to the new one.
