Does this use 1 usb port or 2? Some drives need 2 ports for power.

It will depend upon your particular system.  Some systems don't supply enough power on USB ports and some do.  You will need to check the specs for your system or contact it's manufacturer to be sure.

On my Desktop PC, which has an Asus P5Q motherboard, I have enough power on my USB ports to operate most devices. The BDR-XD05 works with just one USB port on my system.

I have a Asus  g74sx with win 7 64 bit. I have read that some players won't work with the win 7 64 bit. Do you know of any problems?

I am using this device with a Mac. It works well for me. Based on Pioneer's specs of the device it has even better integration on Windows if you use usb2. If you connect via usb3 it works identically on both platforms.

Looking for a drive like this to hook up to my TV so I can watch DVD, BluRay, etc.

If anyone is using one of these for that purpose is one USB port giving you enough power?  I only have one available in my system.

Thanks, that's what I figured.  I have a Plextor and a Lacie that I'm going to hook up and see what happens.  I know they aren't "intended" for TV, but it would be nice if it worked for that purpose - a bedroom TV.

Is the cable connection on the drive side standard USB or proprietary?

I haven't seen this type of connection before. It appears to be two connections joined to provide the power needed. If you go to the pioneer site and download the installation manual, page 9 shows an illustration of the connection.

The only provided numbers are printed to the CD jacket cover, which has a bar code above it, in the LG WP40 Slim Portable Blu-Ray Writer packaging.

The cord has 2 USB connectors at one end: blue 3.0 and nonblue 2.0.  My question is: How long is the 2.0 segment?

So to answer your question specifically about 6 inches.

I'm interested in using this with my MacBook Pro with USB3 ports.  Do I need the Pioneer Power{DVD,Director,2Go} to use this product?  I'm hoping it will simply look like a raw drive and I can use VLC or Handbrake to access content.

Drive performs great and you only need one USB port to power if it is USB 3.0.  If using USB 2.0 you need to use two USB plugs.  I am very pleased with this product.

Pros: This is a wonderful hardware that works very reliably.
Cons: I don’t like the bundled software. So I use PowerISO with this.

Does this driver request region-specification, such as the Mac Super drive does? I travel a lot, and the Super Drive only supports one pre-dialed region (like US vs. Europe), which makes it useless for me.
