I have a PCI 1x 16x Express slot... Could this 2.0 card work with my 1.0 slot?

PCIe 2.0 is backward and forward compatible with PCIe v1.x. Graphic cards and motherboards designed for v2.0 will be able to work with v1.1 and v1.0, and vice versa. In some rare cases it is possible that a PCI-E 2.0 card will not work correctly on a PCI-E 1.0a slot. This is only limited to certain video cards.

It would be best to check to see if 8.1 has a driver that supports the graphics card. I can not give you an exact answer because I run windows 7 with this card.

From what I can see about the Vostro 230, you are better off staying with a GT 620 card so your power supply can handle it. There is not much difference in performance and you can get a 620 with 1GB RAM and all 3 inputs, VGA, HDMI and DVI.

I use this card just fine with my Emachine ET1352G desktop that has a 300 watt power supply. I am able to play Skyrim on ultra high graphics with zero lag, so I would say yes, it should work. The only other thing I have upgraded on my desktop besides this card is adding Ram.

The only way to guarantee a graphics card will work is 2 methods: See if it will fit or follow the form factor.

Ex. ATX, BTX, microATX

Tower, Motherboard, and Graphics Cards Form Factors must match for them to be compatible.

I am going to be using this card with an AMD 6 core 3.5 ghz CPU and 8gb of ram. Will I be able to run Guild wars to on high settings at a reasonable fps?

I am using a quad 3.8 cpu and 8gb ram and I run WoW, Smite, and other MMO's at the highest setting with little to no fps interruption. There are a few RTSs that I can get away with running at max settings but those are very demanding. As for games like Battlefield 4, Ghosts, and Metro.. I wouldn't recommend the highest setting.

Depends on what kind of mac you are using. If you are booting up from a custom system that you/someone else built and it is not a factory model of a mac, you might be able to use it. Graphics drivers play a huge roll in whether or not you should be able to use it.
