It, except when you need it 3/1/2017 10:35:25 AM

Pros: Decent speed, can handle gaming and video (some times)

Cons: The jury is still out, but there is a problem with the video card updates or how this card was produced. In any event, the ultimate performance of this card is horrible. I play video games and nothing is more amazing than playing a video game and your card constantly crashes. The crashes are annoying and constant. Avoid this card if you can and purchase something else. Invest the money and get a top quality card.

Mediocre 8/21/2015 12:54:35 AM

Pros: Newer architecture

Cons: Did not perform at the level I was hoping for, but I also blame myself for not throwing down the right amount of money... Returned the card when an r9 290 was available for almost the same price during a sale.

constantly crashes with a green screen 6/18/2015 9:58:16 AM

Pros: one less brand to compair for my future cards

Cons: I've owned this card for a few months now. It crashes all the time and it is insanely frustrating. I'll be playing dark souls, skyrim, farcry 4, dragon age and out of nowhere bam! green screen. it even crashes when I use autoCAD..

Overall Review: I've never overclocked it, I mean the voltage is locked so it doesn't really make sence to me. I think it would be hard to see any real performance gain. I've googled the issue and there doesn't seem to be very many problems with the Tonga chip which makes me think powercolor is at fault.

I will never buy a powercolor product again and it's caused me to stray from the red team. It's back to a gtx 560 for me while I wait for pascal.

card crashes 6/4/2015 8:11:04 PM

Pros: Good graphics(when the card works) for a decent price

Cons: The card crashes often (once every 2 weeks). The screen goes green and sometimes recovers and sometimes it doesn't and my pc needs a hard reset.

Overall Review: I have had this card in my computer for about 6 months and I'm already looking for a new one.

Doing well so far 5/3/2015 2:55:19 PM

Pros: Pretty much the same as everybody else, and it's smaller (in length) than other cards I've owned.

Cons: Really freaking loud, if your case gets hot. I have only one exhaust fan and the ambient temp in my case gets kind of hot. When the card reaches about 75 degrees this thing starts making a crazy amount of noise.

Overall Review: May want to consider an Nvidia card if you're concerned with noise and temps. Other than that, this is pretty nice performance per dollar.

DOES WHAT I WANTED 4/17/2015 2:06:46 PM

Pros: I have been using a 265 card, which is actually fairly good, with clear video and very quiet. I have been having some instability issues with one my programs. I decided to make a big jump in video power to help stabilize that program. The card does a good job of what I wanted it for. Very quiet. Upon power up it gave so much resolution that it hurt my eyes. I downloaded the latest drivers from AMD and worked with it a bit to get the resolution right. Video is now clear and sharp. This machine is used solely in a business environment. I don't do gaming. I bought the open box version of the card. (Five computers all now running open box or reconditioned video cards. Never had a problem.)

Cons: Not right now.

Overall Review: I don't do gaming, but I like the idea. Gaming drives improvements in the industry. Improvements in components helps greatly to save me time and money.

PowerColor R9 285 Review 4/14/2015 5:23:39 AM

Pros: -Cheap card (I got it for 200$) that hits the sweet spot for price vs performance. It's a sturdy workhorse that should be able to trudge through even newer games, although not quite maxed out and not quite at 60 FPS. It will undoubtedly be able to play older games or well optimized games very well.

-Although this card looks like a child's toy, the shroud is made of metal, and the feel of the card seems weighty and durable. It also looks pretty neat.

-Temps are fine; peaking at 70-75 isn't all that bad for an AMD card, and in most games you won't break 60. You can probably overclock this puppy to about 10% higher than what it came with in the box. Using MSI afterburner, I got +12% power limit, 1500MHz RAM clock and 1040MHz Core clock.

Cons: -Keeping in mind the pros, I wouldn't go running around praising this card like it's godly. As I said, this card is a sturdy workhorse that will be able to run mostly anything at a playable/acceptable level in the future. If you're expecting max settings, 60FPS, 1080p on all new games, you're probably going to be disappointed. Sure it can do max settings, but your FPS will dip in modern games, and you may have to lower them. In addition, if you're planning on playing newer games, like GTA or The Witcher III, there's no way you're maxing those games out and still getting 60FPS.

-Never heard of PowerColor before, which is pretty sketchy but didn't prove to be an issue.

-2GB VRAM is not future-proof. Turning down AA will help a lot in games because of it.

-Loud, but definitely not unbearable.

Overall Review: Good card overall if this is your price range. Wait for it to go on sale because it often does.
