Good, but crashes on older system

Pros: This video card is good for what it is. Got it cheap after a rebate. I paired this with an AMD 1055t and games were running pretty smooth for the most part. Moved it into my ryzen system and it runs great! It also works great with an intel i5 4570 system it ran in for a couple weeks.

Cons: So the bad is this card seemed to crash on my older 1055t system. I was not experiencing any crashing at all before or after this card. That system now has a GTX 960 and is chugging along fine. I was able to minimize the crashing by disabling some background programs while gaming such as the AMD gaming evolved,, and biggest of all was Origin.

Other Thoughts: I bought this a while back due to a rebate. The card was crashing with Frustrated me quite a bit at first. Eventually I bought an i5 4570 system for cheap and put this in that system. It actually ran pretty well over the course of the 2 weeks i owned that and only crashed once. I put it in my Ryzen PC when I bought it and it has only crashed once since which is believed to be due to windows update putting on an older known bad driver instead of keeping my up to date AMD driver. It is now living happily in a computer running an intel Pentium g4500 and will continue to do so until it is time to upgrade both the video card and processor.

why the reviews erased

Pros: looks cool

Cons: wasn't able to work with my system, I was wondering what the problem was because it wouldn't keep on , it would restart every 15 sec. Also there was alot of bad reviews for this model, but I guess there was to many so they erased them. It might just be my phone, don't really know why they got erased.

Dissapointing Experience

Pros: - Value for the money
- Should yield good framerates in 1080p for eSports titles
- no PCIe power connector

Cons: - Did not work in my system. Crashed every time I tried booting a game and sometimes, even while not in games. After contacting tech support, Powercolor was able to confirm that the reason for the crashes was that my motherboard has a PCIe 2.0 connector and not a PCIe 3.0 connector. I find this to be ridiculous mainly because cards that use PCIe are built to a standard specification which requires that devices are backwards compatible. I returned this product and bought a different graphics card.
- Pretty cheap quality

Other Thoughts: - From what I have seen, this card is pretty hit or miss.
- If it works in you system it is a great value.
- If you have an old prebuilt system, don't bother wasting your time.

Great budget card

Pros: -Works great
-Fan is generally quiet (see other)
-Cooler does the job despite looking cheap

Cons: (v. minor)
-Don't expect it to overclock much
-Specs may say x16 PCIe 3.0, but it only uses x8 lanes (has no functional effect on performance)

Other Thoughts: Fan has been quiet for me, but in my installation it never gets very warm. If you run it in a poorly ventilated case you may have problems - I used it in an ITX case that has a total of ONE chassis fan and it never ran loudly. If you manually set the fan to 100% though, that will definitely be loud.

This is a good cheap RX 460 card (up to you to figure out if an RX 460 is sufficient for your needs). If you want to overclock it, you are looking at the wrong class of video cards entirely

Stay Away from This Card

Pros: - None

Cons: - Crashes after 5 to 10 minutes of gaming
- Crashes randomly on desktop
- The customer service thinks I am dumb

Other Thoughts: I replaced my HD 3870, which served me so well for 8 years without a single crash, with this card. Then my nightmare started.

This card crashes constantly after a short time of gaming. Sometimes it even crashes on desktop. The symptom is typically some green blocks everywhere on my screen, or black/green screen, and then the screen flickers, and goes back to normal. Sometimes there are messages popping up from the system tray, saying the driver is recovered.

I had read through every single message from all the forums, including AMD community and Reddit. Interestingly, if you look at the 1-egg reviews, they are all stating exactly one thing -- what I am talking about here.

At first I though I got a faulty card, so I requested an RMA, and PowerColor even wanted me to pay for the shipping for a brand new non-working card. Then I received a replacement card. Guess what? Exactly the same symptoms.

Tests I had done to the brand new AND the replacement card:
- tried ALL available versions of drivers, from both AMD and PowerColor and the windows 10 built-in WHQL
- tried on my 2 different rigs

People also tried DDU or windows reinstall. None of them worked.

If you read through the forums about 460 crash, you will find tons of people suffering from this same issue. One of them is a system builder, who spent 100+ hours trying to make it stable and failed. This crash pattern also happened to some people who got a brand new system.

Some of the proposed workarounds include in WattMan, lowering the power limit to -20%, changing the core frequency of the P4-P7 to a constant value, raising the voltage for P1 and P2 states, or lowering the overall frequency by 17.5%, making it 1000 MHz. Each one of these made the card more stable, but eventually crashed. Now I am running in a combination of -17.5% core frequency and -20% power limit. The stability is yet to be seen.

The theory is that many old mobos (and since this also happens to some brand new builds, I would add low-end mobos as well) just cannot handle the power flow to the card through the PCIE port exclusively, hence the card crashes.

The PowerColor customer service is close to nonexistence. After my replacement card crashed with exactly the same symptoms, I swapped back my HD 3870 and everything was stable as hell. On the AMD forum you also see they swapped NVIDIA cards and ran without a single problem. The commonality all points to one thing: this card. However the customer service keeps telling me to change the driver version, and even told me to upgrade my PSU from 450 W to 500 W, completely ignoring the fact that an HD 3870 has a much higher TDP and needs external power from the PSU!

If my system does not work with ANY card, I have a faulty system. If my system does not work with ONLY ONE card, that card has a serious compatibility issue. They kept telling me to RMA my card for replacement. I bet none of their card in the RMA department can run stably on my system. For how many times PowerColor wants me to RMA my card? Until I can buy an NVIDIA GTX 1080 with all shipping included? They kept saying the replacement card passed furmark running for 2 hours. So what? That is for their particular test stand! Is PowerColor saying, in order to use their card, one has to meet a minimum requirement for his motherboard? That's a joke.

The worst part. PowerColor uses the trick of mail in rebate to have customers violating the return policy. Now I have no way to return this brick and have to live with a crazily under-clocked card which cannot even run stably. I practically paid $80 (card) plus $11 (RMA) for a brick and became one of their many beta testers. No mention my valuable tens of hours spending on researching and try and error.

I write this review sincerely to save people from becoming the next victims. If you want to avoid headaches, stay away from this card.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the driver issues you're experiencing.

Our RMA return policy, on par with many other VGA brands, is customer pays for return shipping back to us and we pay for the replacement shipping back to the customer. As for the crashing issue, we recommend sending a full spec detail of your PC to and we will see if our technician can replicate the problem.

As for the mail in rebate, please be sure to read Newegg's return policy before starting your rebate process. Per policy, any altered product or boxes that comes with the purchase will not be given a refund. Unfortunately as strict as this rule might be, this method is used in order to prevent any buyer scams on the mail in rebates.

Thank you,
PowerColor Support

Do Not Buy This Card!!!!!

Pros: -This card is fully capable of playing all of the games out right now at 1080p no problem. (when it works)
-Low price perfect for entry level gaming. (if only it worked)
-Low power consumption means it can run straight off the motherboard without the need for an external 6-pin adapter(this could also be a con more info below)

Cons: -Fan can get a bit loud (sometimes locks up at full speed causing me to reboot)
-Difficult initial set up (more info below)
-Best for budget or first time gamers enthusiasts will want to save a little more money for a rx470(supposedly other rx460 do not have problems)
-This specific card has a lot of problems
-I cannot recommend you buy it. Buy at your own risk.

Other Thoughts: I'm reviewing the Powercolor Red Dragon Rx 460 2gb. At the time of purchase this card was listed for $89 with a $20 rebate essentially bringing the price down to $69. I originally gave this card a four egg rating. In theory this should be a good card. RX460 is fully capable of playing all games out now at 1080p 30-60fps. It will fluctuate on newer titles. This is also on med/high new titles or ultra on older ones. At 720p all games easily run at 60fps not problems. I personally play at 720p so I do not need a super high end card. For those of you looking for 1080p 60fps all the time I recommend getting a RX470 or higher. Back to why I changed my rating. I did have a hard time setting up this card initially. The provided software CD loads an old driver from November /2016 onto the card. During the install my display went black but the PC continued to run with HDD led flashing. I gave the PC a good 15 minutes before hard resetting it. I did this to make sure the installing driver completes. After rebooting I arrived at my desktop to notice the monitor would go in and out multiple times to a back screen. once again I allowed it to do so for about 15 minutes and then rebooted. This time the same blackouts happened but after 10 minutes all was good and everything seemed to be running fine. I immediately went online to download the new driver. The new one is from January/2017. It would not install automatically through the exe file so I manually went into device manager and installed it through there. Once again my screen went black again. I waited again for a couple minutes but then my screen started going in and out with a bunch of static, kind of like an old analog TV static but in green and purple hues. After about 15 minutes I decided to hard reboot. Now when booting up, the graphics card seems to lock up and the fan runs at highest speed up until the windows sign in screen shows up then it stops. Once signed in my screen isn't flashing in and out anymore. I am sure this is due to the new driver. I assume all is good and start playing some games and they run really well. The card is fantastic when it is working. The problem is it only worked for 10-20 minutes before my screen went black and I had to hard reset again. This time I got it up and running and didn't have any issues for a while. It worked alright for a day. But I didn't really play for too long maybe an hour. I decided it was time to hook up my second monitor. It all went downhill after that. If I have a window open on each monitor and try to multitask and do work on each eventually the screens go black and I have to reboot. Gaming performance dropped dramatically when the second monitor was hooked up. I would load a game and the screen would freeze. Then after a couple minutes it would go back to normal. If I am on steam and I want to message a friend while playing a game. It locked up and I had to reboot. This happened every single time I wanted to message a friend while playing a game. Also when I do start a game and don't message anyone it runs for a some time, it is always random, then the screens go black and I have to reboot. Usually this occurs somewhere in the 10-30 minute mark. If for some reason it doesn't crash within this time limit I got lucky and will be able to play as long as I like but as soon as I hit the escape key or try alt-tab or any other way of trying to get to the menu or back out of the game the screen goes black and I have to reboot. I work in IT and am very good with computers. I have tried all forms of troubleshooting on this product to no avail. I cannot recommend anyone buy this product when there are other products in the same price range that will work day one without all the hassles that this one provides. I purchased this card for my brothers PC and I tried it in mine which runs a GTX960 at the moment. It still had the same issues and I know my 960 runs well in his PC no problems. He was originally running a Radeon HD 6870 so this was a huge upgrade for him. Since he was running red already I thought I would stick with it. AMD is known for driver problems and even his 6870 was a chore to install but at least it worked when all was done. I have read online that a lot of people are having issues with this specific power color RX460. Supposedly other RX460's are fine. I wouldn't know for sure since I do not own them. In my opinion if its a driver issue it should be specific too all RX460s and not just one. If its the hardware then this card may not be properly configured. I have also read that this card is overclocked whereas the reference 460 is not. Therefore this card should have a 6-pin power option but it does not. It runs strictly off the motherboard which may not be able to handle to power load of the overclocked card. Also a viable explanation. Personally I am going to go back to green since they do not give me as many troubles. Hope this helps

Great budget card

Pros: Bought this to upgrade a secondary computer, not a pure gaming station but I ran it on my gaming PC (i7-4790k) in place of my RX 480 for a bit and this thing competes with my old HD 7870 from AMD. It is better in DX12, not DX11 though, and way more power efficient than the 7870 (Pitcairn=see also R9 270/370). For 89 bucks minus the rebate =75, you can't beat it. I played Titanfall 2 on it with INSANE settings and had only 2 stutters over a half-hour of play. Set it on VERY HIGH and you can play without a hitch!

Cons: Well, it's not a high-end enthusiast product, so if you know what you're buying you will not be disappointed. It is a budget card, meant for less-demanding games (e-sports titles).

Other Thoughts: I have it paired with an Ivy Bridge 3570k now and it is great for gaming at one notch down from the highest settings on a 1080p monitor. **Added** I've had it about 3 months now, still working great! It compares to my old HD7870 (2gb) in many benchmarks. They split the wins, however the RX460 is better @DX12 and is certainly more futureproof and uses WAY LESS power consumption. It crushes E-sports titles and if you turn down your settings a notch on AAA-games it'll work great for that too, especially @1920x1080 or less.
