PRESTO 02822 6 Cup Coffee Percolator SSPRESTO 02822 6 Cup Coffee Percolator SS
Pros: Good construction, makes great coffee quick.
Cons: probably not big enough for coffee-holics
Overall Review: This is just the perfect size to make 2 big mugs of coffee for your morning. It was also a good size for work as it took up very little desk space. It also brews up faster than a large sized urn, which is good when you are on the go. Still, there are times I wish I had bought the full sized (12 cup) perculator so I would have a mug or two in the afternoon. Yeah, I know I am lazy!! Other than that, if a smaller sized perculator is what you are looking for, this is just what you want.
Pros: Fast brewing, solid construction, 500 watts
Cons: Doesn't have the traditional clear plastic top to show it perking.
Overall Review: Nobody makes 'em like they used to. Black And Decker bought then ruined the Farberware Superfast coffee maker. Farberware also a hefty 1000 watts vs. this sweet Presto at 500 watts. So, this little maker is twice as efficient and a bit safer for older electrical wiring. It's not quite as solid as the old percolators they used to make decades ago, but it's not of poor quality either. With everyone ramming drip coffee makers down out throats, I am very happy to see someone still making a good 'ol percolator. It takes about 9-10 minutes to make a full pot with water at room temperature and it tastes about as good as a French Press. I'm using #2 coffee filters - I have to punch a hole in the bottom of the filter, but it wraps up around the edges of the coffee to keep most of the grinds out, unlike the disc filters. I've added a mechanical timer to make coffee in the morning before I wake up.
Comments:
Very happy with this machine...
If you like your coffee hot, this is the pot for you. You actually have to sip from the mug for the first few minutes after pouring- yes it's that hot.
Using the same grind and amount as I had been using w/my drip coffee maker- this pot brews excellent tasting coffee.
Be sure to use filters made for percolators, they're available at most grocery stores. Presto recommends the wraparound style filters rather than the 3" disc style filters. I tried the disc style filters and got some grinds in the bottom of the pot, so I'm switching to the wraparound style filters.
Maybe most important- there is no plastic in the brew path. I don't feel comfortable drinking hot liquids that have been passed/filtered/piped through plastic. This particular pot has an all metal brew path. Who knows, in the future they may find it was unsafe to drink coffee brewed in coffee makers with plastic components in the brew path. Better safe than sorry!
Pros: Works
Cons: Works very very slow, cheap quality product. Sharp edges can cut your finger, small diameter and not much room to fill in the coffee, takes time to start
Overall Review: My old coffee maker is of much better quality and much faster, I would not recommend this "THING" at all and going to fix my old unit, than throw the new one away!
Pros: It works fine. It makes a pretty good cup of coffeee. Best of all the cofee comes out hot and it stays hot.
Cons:
It is not as fast as my old farberware percolater. It needs a couple minutes to make coffee.
For any percolater your need a coarser grind than the pre-ground coffee you buy in a store. If you have to use regular ground coffee makes sure to also use percolater filters which can be found in any supermarket, otherwise you will get grounds in your coffee.

Pros: Makes good coffee for about a year.
Cons: After a year, coffee comes out like tea. sometimes its good, too often it is like tea. I have to let the pot cool then brew it again.
Wastes time and is very irritating.
From day 1, if you brew more than one cup (8 oz or so), make sure you drink it all within 15 min. The coffee gets old after that.
The filters it recommends are ridiculously large, but necessary, since the basket is so small. Any more than 4 tablespoons and the grounds start pouring out between the basket and screen. Unless, you use large filters that fold over the grounds to keep them in.
