works good

Pros: stable board , currently using it for gaming rig

Cons: Audio works and works good but with vista , the front audio jacks dosent work along with the mic front and back .... so it realy hurts me in critical moments when playing gears of war , i cant talk to my team mates .. i dont want to uninstall vista just so that my freekin audio ports will work !!!

Other Thoughts: well, guess its time to buy a sound card ....

that huge heat sink really gets hot during intence apps , need to much more air to that part

stable if you don't use much

Pros: It's running very stable, has a lot of sata slots, enough pci slots, it's easy to find updates, easy to install bios updates, good fan support, nice monitoring utilities. Able to run software to keep cpu cool and use less power when idling. USB works nicely and plenty of sockets.

Cons: had to choose a slower memory speed, no overclocking abilities, the audio volume was so low I had to buy a $20 add in card (at least there's enough slots) my older pata drives would not work reliably - had to buy a $30 pata to sata and run as sata drives (but this is working well).

Other Thoughts: my goal was to upgrade a win2k older pentium single core system w/o reinstalling. This I was able to do (but it was tricky) and so my highly customized, 100's of installed programs, all now run faster, some even use both cores. I have 3 monitors, so I added 2 pci vid cards and also use the on board. Other mobo's wouldn't pass my disk torture tests, this did.

Intel needs to fix BIOS

Pros: I bought this for the onboard video, 2 PATA, 6 SATA-300. It has Intel ICH8 RAID, but I'm only using the SATA as JBOD.

Cons: All BIOS levels after 1669 (including the latest BIOS) are broken for 4GB or more of memory. The BIOS doesn't return the correct memory relocation information when it's got 4 GB or more memory processes running in the memory relocated to over 4GB run very slowly, on the order of 500 times slower than it ought to. There is a hack to get around this for Linux, see f you need DVI output, you will need to use a video card because the on-board video only has a 15 pin video out.

I have 4 HDs in my case, which requires me to us SATA connectors with a right-angle connector because of the poor placement of the SATA connectors and jumpers on the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Intel's known of the BIOS problem since August 2007 or earlier, and it's still not fixed. If it were fixed out of the box, I would have rated it a 3 or 4.

Satisfied

Pros: Easy board to install and work with. Lots of built in functionality for the price. Very happy with 6 SATA connectors and built in RAID 0 or 5. Makes a very nice home server or desktop.

Cons: Be very selective in picking the memory for the board. Only supports DDR2-800 at 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 timing. Once you get it running, you can play with changing this successfully.

Other Thoughts: I have 3 of these, one running Vista and one running Server 2003. Both work very well. Server runs the house for DVD distribution from 3 1TB RAID drives. 3rd board is DOA from NewEgg. Doen't post. Tried lots but it is dead. NewEgg is swapping, but I wonder about the lasting quality of this OEM product.

Skip this Motherboard - It's a lemon

Pros: Seemingly many features: many USB ports, 1394, RAID, decent onboard sound.

Cons: Incompatible with 75% of available RAM. Seriously. The RAM that is compatible must be run at mediocre to poor timings. Some of the "compatible" RAM cannot be run at 800 mhz. Many videocards are incompatible. For example Nvidia 8800 cards and all 7950GX2 cards are 100% incompatible. Have to do gymnastics to get RAID going.

Other Thoughts: This thing is buggy, and intel offers very poor technical support troubleshooting issues. It was a stop gap board which was supposed to be "Vista ready". It's not. In fact Vista 32 will not boot on this board with 4GB RAM installed. There are no intel help forums. Skip this motherboard.

Don't buy.

Pros: Has a lot of features, but I beleive that's about it, because it never really worked. I gave it 2 because of all the features that COULD have been nice.

Cons: Well, it never POSTed so all I got to see was a blank screen, not even a beep. I tried EVERYTHING that Intel could offer in their possible sollutions for this problem. I heard that this mobo was very picky with memory so I tried to get one from Intel's list, no luck, changed power supply, no luck, and yes I tried another processor and nothing. It was either dammaged or it still had some memory issues.Oh, and Newegg makes you pay for an RMA refund even if it is damaged goods.

Other Thoughts: RMA'd got now an Asus P5LD2, it worked great on the first try.The thing that really dissapointed me with Intel is that they have NO support, they have all these third party sites that you need to be registered to use.A very frustrating problem since a blank screen doesn't tell you anything.

Great board, but be careful

Pros: Full featured board, TPM module, future support of blu-ray and hd-dvd hardware decoding

Cons: no manufacturer warranty

Other Thoughts: Had to find out the hard way that Intel motherboards that begin with BLK are bulk (OEM) motherboards and do not qualify for the 3 year retail board warranty, only those boards (and processors) that begin with BOX have the 3 year warranty. Mine is still going fine however the high definition audio link is nolonger working. Was going to RMA the board to Intel but found out no warranty is available. either purchase Newegg's extended warranty or take your chances with BLK motherboards
